View Full Version : KeoghCon III ... THE RESULTS...
Silky
December 1st, 2003, 08:50 PM
Fellow KeoghConians...
K'Con III came and went, but -- ahhhh! -- the memories. Did we, or did we not, have a great time? Well, Silky and me, we did, despite one or two small accidents. And Debs, we most sincerely hope your bruises are on the mend; and Kevin ... it serves you right! Out on the town with that rowdy lot.
But really, it was great to see you all again (er, whether you are or aren't collectors), and to do our mutual thing. The panels and panelists were most excellent -- as good and better than many I've attended at the big cons in the USA -- and Paul Ganley's interview was very informative and entertaining.
The raffle ... well, what can you say? But we're already calling in some favours I'm owed, and next year we're shifting up a gear. How? With slip-cases, special editions, numbered or lettered copies, and not only Lumley books but other rarities I just happen to be in a position to acquire.
But I won't go on about it except to say it was great that our extended family grew a little, wonderful that our American friends could attend, fantastic that something like that could work out without any major hitches.
I thank you for the many gifts and birthday wishes. Thanks to Debs for doing her annual thing, to Silky for organization, to all of you for being there.
And we're only ten months away from the next one!
Cheers!
Brian

And the same goes for me. I had a wonderful time. Thanks to those who pre-ordered the raffle tickets. It made a much easier job for me and it gave me more time to enjoy the con. Looking forward to seeing all the old faces ... and some new ones at KeoghCon IV. Good grief! We've had three already? grin.gif

Well what a fantastic weekend it was, plenty of discussion, beer, friends old and new, beer, jokes, beer, laughs, pool, beer and storytelling then just a little bit more beer mixed in for good measure.
I wish I could have fitted a little sleep in there somewhere but who wants to sleep when your in the company of such excellent people.
What with Dave Kendall (or Chewbacca as he's now affectionately known) doing super drawings for people and Keith Grant Evans the ageing Han Solo bringing his own slant on reality to the conversation, Tom with his enlarged thumb lowering the tone of the conversation with his little word games, me and the Ancient One managing to secure victory in the pool competition in the wee small hours, which was also a Brucey bonus.
I even managed to excel myself in the embarrassment stakes with a few tales that I'll regret telling I'm sure, and I don't think mine an Paul's (A1) little duet of Shane Ritchie's "I'm your man" late on Friday night helped me keep any last lingering respect that people may still have had for me.
The convention itself was very good, good topics for the panels and some great readings by Brian, W Paul Ganley's interview was very interesting and the raffle was most excellent and I even managed to win a few prizes myself, although I still maintain that I'm definitely not a collector grin.gif
The whole weekend was a magnificent blur that seemed to whiz right bye, and was only spoilt by the small fact that it had to end.
Roll on Torquay September 2004 for KC4 grin.gif grin.gif grin.gif

Well as some have already said, a huge thank you to Brian, Silky and Debs for all their hard work, it's really appreciated by us all.
I just can't tell you how much I enjoyed myself, from the moment I walked into the hotel and found Debs in the doorway, it was like I'd returned home! Meeting everyone again, and meeting new people was great, we all had such a great time I didn't want it to end.
I can't say there was a best bit because it was all so good but even though I was ridiculed for buying so many raffle tickets I picked up some fantastic prizes, and couldn't be more pleased, deffinately money well spent!
I loved every minute of it, meeting Paul Ganley was great, he's a lovely man and so is Dave Kendall who joined us playing pool and staying up until what ever time it was that we all went to bed!
It was especially nice to see Joe, Botch, Michael and Michelle who managed to get here from America, it would be great to see you all again next year - as of course it would be great to see everyone! I'm already looking forward to it!

twas a great weekend. A big thanks to all who attended and made it a special weekend.
Thanks to Brian and Silky for coming along, the biggest thanks to Debs for being organiser extroadinaire.
Thanks to Dave Kendall for "letting me win" his art work, and thanks for doodling on the back.
I'd also like to thank all the crazy people who didn't have the foresight to go to bed at a reasonable hour...

Hi All,
I've just been asked to post this by fantastic artist Dave Kendall:
To everyone at Keoghcon 3.
Thanks for one hell of a great weekend. It was such a friendly get together. I felt like I'd known most of you for about 10 years rather than 10 hours. I can see why you have such an attachment to this Con. You should all be proud of it. Thanks for making this newbie so welcome. Thanks also, to a few of you for reinforcing the fact I look like a wookie.
Highlights for me must be the Pool game which will probably go down in Keoghcon history. The sight of Keith Grant Evans being pursued around the table by a very loud, very drunk, god knows what, will probably stay with me for a very long time. I'm still trying to recover from the effects of that night. Whether I'll ever erase the rifle man shaped stain that is Botch from my memory, only time will tell. A great guy, and tornado of energy.
Thanks especially to Brian, Silky and Debs for all the hard work.
I'll try and catch up on some of Brian's other universes(apart from Necroscope) in time for next year. Roll on Devon.
All the very best to you all.
Dave Kendall.

OK, where to start:
Everything seemed to go smoothly. So a big thanks to Debs and Silky for organising a great event.
A hugh thanks to Brian for being there and donating so many good raffle prizes.
What can I say about the guest of honour. W Paul Ganley, in person. It was an honour to meet the man who has published some of the best Lumley books ever. (and even donating some to the raffle)
Then there were the superb visitors from across the pond. It was great to meet Mike and Michelle, Joe and Botch and even better to see them having such a great time.
Then there was Chewbacca, the artist formally known as Dave Kendall. What a super bloke. I never once saw him refuse a request for a "quick" drawing. He even seemed to get better as the drink started taking effect.
And finally, the rest of you who were there. As always, it was more like a family reunion than a con. Thanks to you all for making the weekend such fun. It can only get better in 2004.
Once a gain a big thanks to Brian, Silky and Debs for this most excellent weekend

Me and mazrah had a wonderful time, even though mazrah spent most of saturday in her room vomitting :(
There are too many people to mention by name, but special mentions must go to, and in no specific order;
W paul Ganley, who was a real star who never tired of telling wonderful stories.
Dave kendall, who as mentioned sketched and drew to eveyone's hearts desire.
Michele, Mike, Botch & joe for coming over from the states, and contributing to the best yet con.
Keith Grant Evans for being Keith Grant evans.
Nick Austin, who has become a permanant fixture at the cons.
And finally, special praise to the people who made it possible, Brian, Silky and debs grin.gif
Roll on next year.

What a great weekend. Brilliant to meet all you guys and putting Names to Faces. And to meet Brian for the first time was a real honour ... thanks really to Brian, Silky and Debs for bringing the whole thing together. W. Paul Ganley was a real gent, and as for Dave Kendall - superb artist, top bloke but poor pool player!!! My three way conversation with The Helm and Keith Grant-Evans was as surreal as it got! The conversations and discussions that went on into the wee small hours - were great, it was as if I'd known you guys for years rather than hours ... And what can I say about our American friends? My little walk with the Boston guys and my fellow Leeds fan Charlotte (who seemed to wake up the later it got) was another great memory. Lots of beer was drunk, discussions were had and new mates were made -- Roll on KC4!!!
I'll probably add to this, as more things are remembered - just to finish - I LOVED EVERY MINUTE - and maybe when I meet the Master again I won't be so blooming star-struck!!! blush.gif

I know i spent most of the weekend asleep but i did manage to really enjoy myself. Id like to thank Brian, Silky and Debs for getting the con going as it is one sure fire thing that we always look forward to attending!! Also W.Paul Ganley for attending as he was the nicest guy you could meet and he had Tasha on the edge of her seat for most of friday night. This year i met alot of old friends, made some new friends and got speaking to some of the people i missed out on last year. i had such a laugh with Brian and Silky on the sunday night talking about tape worms and some leeches smile.gif the con itself was fantastic with the panels being very informative and funny at the same time. the readings were very cool and i dont think ill mention the raffle (i can still feel daggers over the artwork) i think no one will forget Botches commentary of the raffle or his strange jig when he won. Or Dave Kendalls Amazing artwork selection, he just kept going and coming up with better and better images for all the fans what a great guy. I personally think the cons get better and better and if this years is anything to go by then next years will be a blast. Well thats all from me, im off to bed ;)

Firstly, thanks to Brian and Silky. They are the best! And also it was incredible to meet W. Paul Ganley, and so thank you to him for making the trip over.
And secondly, thanks to each and every one of you that turned up. Without Brian's loyal fanbase, I wouldn't have had one of the most interesting (if painful!) weekends since... well, since KC2!! And thanks to everyone who has emailed/messaged me since then.
Just make sure you all keep some diary space for KeoghCon IV!! grin.gif

First, let me thank Brian, Silky, and Debs for showing me a wonderful weekend. I had the time of my life. I have about a million great memories. Meeting Brian, first and foremost. Also W. Paul Ganley. Everybody was so friendly. Room service was great (wink wink nudge nudge) thanks Dave. Of course the rifleman shaped stain, that I swear was not mine. Political discussions, that I promised Mom I wouldn't do. Being 5. And the raffle. By the way, all those numbers that were called and not claimed, I had them in my pocket. Ifound them later. Only me. Thank you all, i think of you all as my friends.

Well.. where do I start? It's hard to remember everything memorable that happened this year but I must thanks Brian,Silky and Goth Girl for outdoing themselves, it just gets better and better each year. I was in my element this year spending hours with Keith Grant Evans taking the mickey out of each other..what a fantastic guy! Paul Ganley was a true gentleman, fascinating to listen to.Dave Kendall is just a superb artist who should be up with the best of them and a fantastic guy to talk to.Brian and Silky were on top form, really enjoyed chatting to them both. I missed Tops (well about 3 stone of him )..I think he lost it and I put it on !! It was great spending time with all of you and it was fabulous having the American contingency who were absolute stars. I even managed to get some half decent pictures this year...can't wait for the next one.

First of all thanks to Tom for posting my reply of thanks. Just a couple more things. A big hello to the other guys from across the pond. Botch has a slight eclipsing quality. Joe, Botch's erstwhile friend and companion. Glad the both of you are back safely. I'm still not sure Botch jumped from the balcony of the 6th floor though.
A big hello and thanks for being so damned friendly and supportive, to Mike and the lovely Michelle. Hope you are back safely. Hope you are all able to make it to the next one. If not you will be sorely missed. Mike if you want a better sketch or drawing for a tattoo let me know.
I regret not having enough time to chat properly to Paul Ganley. I really wanted to pick his considerable mind on physics. It's a pet interest for me. Still as I said roll on Torquay 2004

I jumped from the first landing, not the sixth floor. It was twelve feet, not fifty. It was bad enough. I'm crazy, not suicidal. Meet me in Manchester and we'll go through it again. Bring salad, I love salad.

Did Botch mention he was naked when he made that jump? Anyway, hey everybody, finally got a chance to get on the board. Just taking a minute out of work to say what a great time Botch and I had. And I especially want to thank Brian, Silky and Debs. Hopefully we can all get drunk together again next year.

Post Con frivolities
As well as having a great time at the Con, had a wonderful time with Michele and Mike in London afterwards... Monday was shopping in Camden and Oxford Street, as well as lunch in fave Lumlian hang-out, the Ben Crouch Tavern! Plus clubbing at an 80s night in Soho, all of us having a bit of a bop!
Tuesday we went to the London Dungeons, were Michele and Mike became target practice for the resident rogues! Mike almost lost his genitals, and Michele was put on trial and sentenced to death. And I squealed like a girl whenever anything moved! Scarier still was the Dali exhibition on the South Bank, and a brief visit to Harrods!
As I discovered at KeoghCon, Michele and Mike are a great couple to know, and hope to see them in here more once the house move is sorted out!

Hiya Joe. Good to see you on board.
The last time I was at the Dungeon was when I was 15. Will have to go back. I remember being smuggled in by Mum & Dad to see the truly horrific Satanic Special Display. It was Over 18s Only. I remember a huge moving pile of bloody babies and insect legs and bodies, and the whole thing crowned with a grinning demon as you walked in. Great

just a bit on my lunch break. i was outside, surrounded by two feet of snow. i looked down and on top of a snow bank was a moth. it flew up and landed on my arm. it flapped it's wings three times and then flew away. it was really cool. mayhap i'm overly poetic, but i can't help it.
