This is just to let you know that there will be a KCIV … So start saving your money now.
Sometime this month or early February I'll start looking for that Torquay venue.
BTW, I saw on telly the #1 spot for UK tourists is Devon and Cornwall and they showed Tor Abbey Sands beach. So there you go ... location, location, location.
I anticipate that the price of the rooms will probably be more than last year. You’ll need to keep in mind that Torquay is after all a resort town. Last year’s rates should have been £60 for double and £50 for single because they raised the rate, but I managed to pressure them into keeping the rate the same for 2003 as 2002 They also raised the price of the buffet by £2.00 but I managed to keep that rate the same as 2002 as well. So I will do my best to get us as low a rate as possible even if it means getting a rate with no breakfast included. In any event, as you attendees for 2003 are aware, we can no longer use the Britannia in Manchester, and the prices would have gone up for 2004.
You won’t have to worry about places to eat and drink. Once we get a venue I’ll be able to give directions to everything that’s within easy accessibility. And there’ll be a lot!
I’m going to try for Saturday September 25 or Saturday October 2. Depending upon when the “in season” official ends, if there is a big drop in rates between the Sept. or Oct. date we’ll go with the Oct. 2 date. But if there’s no significant difference in rates it will be Sept. 25. At any rate these are the two dates we are tentatively trying for.
Below are several points I want to bring to your attention now at this early stage of planning so that you all have plenty of warning.
1. Just to be on the safe side, plan on a rate of £60 double and £50 single without breakfast.
2. I'm going to do my best to try and get the function room and accommodation in the same hotel. I have one place in mind and if that meets our needs we’re all set. It’s only a short walk or taxi ride away from all the action.
3. There is a hotel closer to town than the one I’m considering and I see them advertising that they have a function room. It’s a small hotel and probably won’t accommodate all of us but there are loads of overflow hotels next door and across the street, for which I would get rates if necessary. Once again all within easy access to everything, even closer than the first one mentioned. (This one appeals to Brian.)
4. There are two other hotels that have functions rooms but it depends on the price of the accommodation. The price of the rooms would definitely be more because they are up scale hotels. These are right on the seafront in the thick of things. One of them has a huge pub just across the street. Along with various other pubs and eateries. And harbour side and town only a 15 minute walk away in two different directions with mucho pubs and eateries. If the function room meets our needs and the room rate doesn’t, well once again there are plenty of B&B's within walking distance of both hotels.
5. Everything you’ll need will be within walking distance so you won't have to worry about having too much to drink and then driving.
6. If other accommodation needs to be provided I will have personally checked the rooms out to make sure everything is acceptable. I wouldn’t ask any of you to stay in a place that I wouldn’t stay in myself.
Well, that pretty much covers things for now. As soon as we get a venue I’ll be able to work up the web page information and send it on to Shadoe. When this is done I’ll send everyone who had a paid membership for 2003 an e-mail.
Cheers!
