A few weeks ago I found out a friend of mine who i've known for a year had read the PSYCH trilogy of Brians and loved it. Not knowing there were other books out there, he left it at that. He came around to our house the other night and noticed a Brian Lumley book in our living room. He freaked and so I told him all about us lot, the conventions and gave him Necroscope to read.
I went to bed that night around 10, the boyz went around 2...and by the morning jep (the friend in question) had already read the first 6 chapters!!!
he is in LOVE with it and is determined to read them all in a very short space of time.
That makes mine a total of 3, my hubbie, claire (who came to keoghcon III) and jeppie now!
so who have YOU hooked and where are they up to?

I hooked my hubbie and my babysitter. I love hearing what they have to say about the different books.

I haven't hooked anyone :( , but my bf has hooked me grin.gif . He knew i liked James Herbert and kept saying I should read Necroscope, which he ended up getting me for easter. It took me 10 days to read the Necroscope books, I couldn't put them down.
I went a bit slower with the Vampire World one's, I was missing Harry. I've just finished the The Lost Years, which I also got for my bf for his b-day, I started on the Invaders last night

I've managed to hook my mum (!) and I'm working on my girlfriend, she's the only other person I know who likes horror as much as I do, the problem is she don't like reading much so I got a bit of a challenge on my hands!

The only person I know for sure that I ever hooked to the series was my mom.
Right after I read The Source I shoved the book at her and said "You have got to read it!"
I'm pretty sure she lost track of it over the years but I know she enjoyed the first five as much as I did.

Sandra,a friend of mine asked if i had read any good book recently. Well where do i start(at the begining i suppose) I gave her Necroscope, she read it within a week and was eager for more. She read the complete 13 books within 6 months. She is currently struggling with the first in the Phycomech trilogy. I thought it was a good read but to date i haven't read anything to match the Necro books.

Yea....my first post!!!
I was wanting my first post to be a Happy Birthday wish to Brian(I guess it is afterall).
While I am new to the message board, I have been reading Brian's books for a few years. In the last three years I can count at least 12 new thralls created. Whenever the wife or I spot a used copy of Necroscope we buy it and give it away to friends or family.

I do that with some of the rarer books... although I have them all myself, I can always find someone to pass them onto!
I haven't exactly hooked this particular friend, but I have encouraged him... he had Necroscope, and I got him Vamphyri and The Source for his birthday recently. His Xmas wish list now looks like the contents of my book shelf... all Lumley! I picked up the two Lost Years from the Fantasy Centre at the weekend for him, and once he's through the Necroscope books, I'll be starting him on the others! He lurks round the website too I believe.

I picked up my first Necroscope book, hooked myself, and finished the series in 7 months. Unfortunately, I've failed at hooking anyone else because I could talk about only Necroscope for those 7 months and if anyone around me heard Necroscope or Brian Lumley one more time, they were going to throw themselves out of a window.

I've well and truley hooked my mate at work - he's borrowed and read all the Necroscope and Vampire World series over the last month. He's now starting his own collection. All this from a guy who 'hasn't have the patience to read a novel' ;) - well that was before he met the work of Mr Lumley.

Thanks for the kind words John Paul.
I'm glad you like the books!!
The TOR editions are awesome when they are in nice shape.
I find it's easy to convert readers to Brian's work, because the stories are so well written, and the characters are fully developed. I've even recently introduced them to my 70 year old mother, and while she may not be as enthusiastic as I am, she is intrigued.

Well...Ive been reading Necroscope novels since I was 16, so the year was 1988. Since then I hooked my various girlfriends (I think about 5 of them), 7 mates, 2 of my cousins and my aunty. My aunty actually told me, after finishing the first five Necroscope novels, that she loved me for turning her onto the world of the Necroscope, but also hated me for the many sleepless nights she had from not being unable to put the novels down and the various nightmares she has had.
My current girlfriend (well, perhaps she should be called my partner because weve been together for 10 years and have a daughter together) became hooked after I constantly annoyed her to stop reading Virginia Andrews (not that theres anything wrong with her stories) and start Necroscope. She very quickly became a fan, and then we both hooked her mother, who has collected every Necroscope book she possible could.

I haven't hooked anyone yet, but everyone I ever come into contact with that has any interest whatsoever in vampires or books of the occult, I reccomend Lumley. So, it is possible that I've hooked many, many people... but I doubt it.

I've been reading Brian's books since the first Necroscope was originally published. I have bought the first volume about three times and handed it out to friends that I wanted to get hooked. They seem to have lost those books without ever reading them, alas I have hooked no one... until this summer.
My dad has been sick for the last couple of years and recently had to retire. While recovering from surgery he asked me if I had any good books for him to read (I was always on his case about getting away from the television and either reading or taking a class or using a computer... anything to get him away from the idiot box) A little over a month ago I gave him the first Necroscope to read and about every week and a half he calls to ask if I can give him the next book. He never has been much of a reader, so can you imagine that as he reads these books he is putting post-its in the books to mark where a new character is introduced, whether they are good guys or bad guys, and what their powers or histories are. I think this is incredible and I hope he keeps it up. I believe he has actually looked at this web site trying to figure out how to pronounce names and looking for a family tree.

Old subject, but worth reviving I think. Have FINALLY managed to hook m'Lady Mel into Necro Books. She only started reading them last week and is on The Source already!!!!
As soon as I mentioned that Herr Lumley is a Lovecraft devotee (as is she), she had to have 'em!! Hooked a few mates over the past 4 or 5 years as well.

I have recently hooked my girlfriend. She started reading Tarra Khash and has now moved on to Brian's other short story collections I own. She is loving them. She said she is saving Necroscope until she has read all the short stories. I may have hooked her dad but I do not know for certain yet. He commented that he liked my Lumley collection when he saw it and said he would like to read some of it, so for his birthday we bought him Necroscope. I have not talked to him since so I will have to find out.

I feel like a total failure. For years I've tried to convert my girlfriend, and now I'm working on my son. They have shown minor interest, but so far I've not got my fangs to sink in. Don't worry though, I'm not going to give up trying.
So far... so good... so what...?

I've long since lost count of the number of Times that I've had to buy the first couple of necroscope books. Recently i lent a buddy of my buddy the first two in exchange for cannibal holocaust. I've watched the movie and now I can't wait to get those two books back. My shelf looks so lost without them.

Eventually persuaded my son to start Necroscope as he had to read a book for a school project. He is on the second chapter and is totally engrossed already.

Well, I hooked my sister for one. I'm working on others, but I have a hard time giving up my copies to loan them out...
Anyway, she read Necroscope, and she's probably gonna snag Whamphyri from me when she goes back home...lol

I hooked some of my pals and it wasn't hard. I lent them the first book and they asked for more. :D
