View Full Version : Calling All Artists | Want To Help With Some 3D Work ?

Firstly; the important stuff:
I'm currently reading the awesome Necroscope
books. I've read 1 through 4 in the past 4 weeks
and am 4/5 chapters into #5 (DeadSpawn) - loving
them all too!

In my sparetime I do some 3D character modeling
work as part of a learning process. (I don't sell
or use them as advertising, i simply do it because
i like learning and have a keen interest in animation.)

Anyways, i'm very eager to make a 3D render of
my fave Necroscope character (Harry Keogh of course).

But i'm a terrible sketch artist... this is
where you budding artists come in smile.gif

I'd love it if someone could draw and send me
(post it here if it's easier) a conceptual
pic of Harry (in his adult form from Necroscope
1 - so as not to ruin any of the story for
anyone who's only recently picked the book up.)

Here's an example of the ideal concept
art click here - 37k (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.taylor2/images/xsi/xsi-char-conc.jpg).

If you'd like to see examples of the work i've
done then simply click here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.taylor2/images/xsi/).

Feel free to add me to your MSN lists using the
address tylrdiablos@hotmail.com if you wish
to chat about anything from Necroscope to random
stuff.

Finally, the less-than-important stuff about me
about my introduction into the world of Necroscope.

Feel free to close the Topic now) smile.gif

About 5 weeks ago I was visiting a couple of friends
(Hi Caz, hi Hev! :-P )
having a couple of drinks and watching a film
(I forget which one, I think it was Dawn Of The
Dead.)
when one of them says to me:
Caz: Do you like stuff about Vampires?
Me: Yea!
Caz: Hold on then, i'll find that book for you.
Me: Er... ok. <I get slightly confused, as I
have no idea what book she's talking about.
She comes back 2 minutes later with Necroscope II:
Wamphyri - thrusts it into my hands and says>
Caz: I can't find the first one but read that
*points at book in my hands* it's great!
<At this point i'm studying the cover and thinking
to myself, hmm this doesn't really look like
my kind of book --- then I realised i'd just
judged a book by it's cover and you're not supposed
to do that.... it's illegal or something.>
Me: Yeah ok.

The next evening i've recovered from the night
before and set down to read the book.
After the first chapter I realise that there's
alot of missing information. Either it's
coming up in the following chapters or it's
in Necroscope 1 and i've missed it all.
So I speak to Caz on MSN and she gives me
the option of A: Summing up book 1 for me
or B: Offering to dig out book 1 for me.
I was tempted for option A - option B would
have made me feel like I was causing her
some hassle so I told her i'd go out and buy
it myself tomorrow.
I did and I very nearly purchased Blood
Brothers too! Which would have been abit silly
considering the order in which the books go.

So.... 5 weeks later (Last night in fact) I
get the chance to have another night in with
Caz and Hev. But this time I explain to Caz
that she's caused a slight problem in my life
by introducing me to these Necroscope books.
I take her Necroscope 2 out of my bag and say:

Me: "First I read Necroscope 1, then this,
*takes her Wampyrhi from my bag and pass it back*
then I read this *I hand her The Source* then
THIS, *I hand her DeadSpeak*, and i'll pass in
DeadSpawn when i've finished it.

All she managed to say was "Wow, cool!"
but I got the impression she expected this
and I was simply a pawn in her plans. grin.gif

Thats enough from me for now.
Thanks for your time, I look forward to
some replies.

Hello DY357LX(can you enlighten us!!!)
I've been reading Necroscope series for some years now and just keep going back to it as it's the best. You might like to try Demogorgon and the Psychomech Trilogy, once you have read the 13 books in the Necroscope Series(soon to be 14, i can't wait). Liked your links, but they were way beyond my capabilities. Hear for you soon.

Hi Kenny,
What would you like me to enlighten you on?

As for the links I posted, they're all my own
work mostly, (i've had some help with concepts)
I just a need picture of (Adult) Harry Keogh
in a pose similar to this.

I use that pose because it's ideal for animation.
(Nothing gets in the way of anything else.)

Thanks for your replies, very interesting forum this.

I'm no artist either but if you CLICK HERE (http://www.brianlumley.com/media/art.html) you'll get to the BL.com art gallery.

Symon Ward and Tony McGee are the only two who attempt Harry, but it's a place to start. And some of the others do Nathan and Nestor... but I guess you've got awhile before those names'll mean anything to you...

Here's a personal favorite from Paul Stanczykowski's awesome collection.

Thanks for the link Nathan, i'll take a proper
look through those images later this evening.

So far i've modeled Harry's Shotgun using
the Ithaca shotgun as a reference.

Here's a preview but there's no texture
yet so give it alittle time.

I just wondered what DY357LX meant?

DY357LX

Oh ok, the DY357LX part of my name stems from
an old but extremely good video game called
"Perfect Dark". I must have wasted hundreds
of hours of my life on this game when it was
first released about 5 years ago.... and still
do when I can be bothered to set up the good old
Nintendo 64.
The "DY357LX" in Perfect Dark was a gun in
the style of an old western 6-shooter... with
a twist. The bullets would shatter inside the
opponent - making every shot fatel.
Due to the fact that you only got 6 shots before
a rather lengthy reload, you had to be good
with it. Accurate and always with a back-up
plan should you miss.... I loved it and used
the name as an alias online 3 or so years back.
And since then it's stuck with me.

Put it into Google Images and you might get
a screenshot of it.

Hope that answers your question Kenny. smile.gif

That looks like a cool program to muck about with..what program is it you use for the 3d?
Funny too, I actually bought the first 5 books for the cover and the blurb, to take on holiday with me,that's how I got started... then I met Topps who introduced me to a signed Lost Years Hardcover.. but that's another story lol
So I guess we all judge books by their covers differently grin.gif

I'm using a program called Softimage XSI.
Here's a pic of a simply character holding
the shotgun I modeled.

You can download a free version of that program
by visiting Softimage.com and looking for the
"MOD Tool" version. It's about 200 meg in size
but is very good considering the price ;)
