Hey people, any of you hear about the careless twat that got bit by lion at Paignton zoo ? Oh yes it was me ! Stuck in hospital having skin grafts etc but there is one bonus to it all, I got time to read, what would I do without Brians books ? And for those of you wondering if my signature stands true, hell yes ! Ive never felt more alive.

Thank goodness you are okay!

Wait until I tell Brian it was you... ;)

Those poor giraffes ... having the male survive and then die, probably from the stress and shock. Poor mama and baby...

ack Dave that's scary, they are great creatures though, so powerful. I guess you may be having a bit of titty lip with them at the moment though tongue.gif

Your job sounds so interesting smile.gif

(just realised how that could be interpreted)

Im one of the fortunate people that really loves my job.
Her name is Indu and I even bottle fed her as a tiny cub on my lap and this is how she repays me, the bitch haha. Must be a lesson in this, could it be dont trust 300 pound predators or could it be dont trust the female of the species ?

Dave, assuming that your alright of course, that is so cool! A lion bite scar dude, that rules! I seriously can't think of a cooler war wound than a lion bite. A LION BITE! Obviously, I'm impressed.

So how the hell did you manage to get bitten by it anyway? Were you in the cage with it or did it bite you through the cage? And did it hold on or just sort of nip you? And, if you don't mind me asking, how much damage did it do? You said you needed skin grafts, did it break any bones or anything like that? Why do you think she attacked you? Were you feeding her or was she just having a bad day, or what?

Sorry about all the questions, but I'm really interested in large predators and the people who deal with them.

Anyway, hope you have a speedy recovery.

Love to mate, but it'd be an expensive trip, coming from Australia, and on my humble wage it isn't something thats likely to happen anytime soon.

Maybe one day....

Elior we'll all keep our fingers crossed we see you there one day. Ok your questions, Myself and the senior cat keeper were replacing a few 6' wood panels that stop the Lions and Tigers seeing each other,I was cable tying the panels to the fence which involved sticking my hand through the fence to grab the tie, done it before many times but this time she moved quicker than me, 7 hrs of surgery, 47 stitches but her teeth just missed every bone and tendon in my hand, how lucky? We hang dead chickens at about the height I had my hand and its the same principle as waggling your finger at a kitten, so it wasnt totally malicious, poor cat probably wondered why her chicken screamed F**K and vanished, luckily again she caught her lower incisors on the fence or I would have lost my hand, she made a bloody mess of it but considering I got bit by a fecking Lion I think I got off pretty lightly, and yeah the drs at hospital agree with you, I had the coolest injury in there and will have some good scars. The surgeons are doing a case study with me on the treatment of a Lion bite for the BMA including loads of detailed photos, a copy of which I will receive so if youre interested I'll email you a copy when I get it. smile.gif
