Well, well, well.

We watch SG1 ... and as of late they've had some that just bored the c**p out of us.

However, every now and again we just sit on the edge of our seats waiting for something to be said ... or done so we can really be annoyed.

Like last Sunday. Gee, what do you know ... Jonas was a temporary pre-cog. And several times Sam had said "the future is..." but thankfully she didn't finish it with the last three key words although they were implied.

Sometimes I really get very annoyed when I watch this show. There was a time with the Darkside and Lightside ... and certain leach aspects that ring true to you know who. Then there was the leech in the similarity tank scene ... does Agursky come to mind?

And one of my favourite bits of all was watching the movie S***g***. Wasn't it just amazing how they had the "gate" with the nice platform and all the nice military men armed to the teeth?

And, don't you just love that upside down pyramid spacecraft...

Of course, these are my own views, but I find myself thinking about them more now knowing that Tor is doing Khai this October.

Of course, the movie folks, for the most part know exactly how far they can go without crossing that fine line ... like putting the right foot over and leaving the left on the other side ... and there are writers who write for the movies ... but that's another story...

I can hear it now ... "Hey, Brian Lumley ripped off S***g***. And if I hear this I will absolutely flip!

Just go check the original publication date which was back in the dark ages of 1981...

However, the Tor book will have in there "previously published as, and the original publication date. And it's being titled Khai of Khem. Brian has dropped the Ancient.

What are your thoughts on this?

NOTE: As I said, these are only my opinions and I an not accusing anyone of anything. We are just talking simularities.

Why did Brian have to change the name? Just wondered for awhile? Or am I just missing the point entirely...

I guess I can see similarities to Stargate and the Necroscope a lot, but I guess things like this happen. No matter what the Necroscope is by far the best for many reasons which out way the Stargate general set up.

Hmmmmmm......
I for one think that the movie industry takes too many liberties with other peoples concepts.

As to the title change?........ It is Brian's book so I'm sure he is doing what is best for him and his.
Personaly I feel that he is entitled to call his book what he likes and if it was published with the word "Ancient" in the title before then it is his right to continue to do so.

That being said I know I will be in line to get my copy regardless of how it's titled. grin.gif
I have a paperback version (thanks again Deano) grin.gif and it's signed  grin.gif (Many, many, many thanks to the master, Brian Lumley) and I loved it! Great story!

He just decided he didn't want Ancient in it anymore. It's called author's artistic license.

Also, the shorter the title the better if fits on the cover and it does leave more room for the wonderful artwork that goes on the cover.

You see, the less writing the larger the cover art.

Necroscope one word title and we all know about that one...

Well, we'll be receiving page correction proofs within the next couple of months and then I'll be having the entire book read to me while we proof it. grin.gif

I think it was in a Douglas Adams book that he mentioned the perfect author's name would be a four-letter surname and a longish first because you can write the given name in small letters and the family name in very large letters below it on the cover - better for marketing...

Where was I? Oh yes, on a tangent, coming back - the original film the series was based on didn't feature leeches (though it hinted at simbiosis) or some of the more subtle references which make the SG1/Nec series comparison a little more eyebrow raising - in fact about the only thing was the gate itself. Delvin and Emerich who made the film aren't exactly renowned for their originality mind you, they are responsible for Independence Day, Universal Soldier, The Patriot and the Hollywood remake of Godzilla...

Now I don't know how much they wrote for the planned sequel and prequel of Stargate and if they wrote anything how much of it was taken for the bible of the TV series or if the TV writer came up with the leeches all on their own - but the comparisons are striking and you are left to wonder about how well read the TV writers are...
