Ok, under Lovecraft's own admition, the Necronomican was of his own fantastic invention. Now - I'm looking for 'it', or perhaps a version of it under another author? After reading all of Brian's works (well, certainly everything published; I have a nice collection proudly seething away to itself in the shelving, oddly, requiring no dividers...). I've seen mentions of the Necronomican in many books, not solely confined of course to the Mythos and Hero & Eldin's adventures, and always its referred to as 'that dark tome' or such, or some passages are dangled tantalisingly on the page and ending far too abruptly. If anyone can shed light on (and perhaps scare it away? No, bad word usage there) the title and/or author of this books first reincarnation. I've read that some are basically 'copied'; blatant plagiarism, and bad ones at that - complete with slight name-changes of the Old-Ones, etc; of which I'd like to avoid. Anyway, thank you to anyone that may help.
P.S. I've just pre-ordered Defilers to sate my appetite for Brian's works, and perhaps reunite a brother to those seething things on the shelf.

I have part copies of the Necronomicon taken off the net a few years ago. Nothing much to see (if it's taken from the real article). The basic alphabet used and some none damaging rites. I'll see if I've still got it on disk.

Hey I see it everytime I go to Barnes and Noble in the spiritual section (my fave!) and yes it was written by Lovecraft. But so many think its real. Not a bad thing. hehe.

I have a little booklet by Lovecraft, titled "The History Of The Necronomicon." I got it from Necronomicon Press www.necropress.com (http://www.necropress.com) In the booklet, Lovecraft credits THE book as "Al Azif written circa AD 730 at Damascas by Abdul Alhazred" later translated to Greek, Latin, and Spanish. I'm positive Lovecraft created the thing, but others have tried to write one. There's a little paperback version available at any bookstore (even at the mall!), and Chaosium (the game company) has a book of short stories about the Necronomicon, which you should be able to pick up off their website. This book contains versions of the Necronomicon by L. Sprague deCamp, Lin Carter, and Frank Belnap Long.

Ah, this information is warmly recieved - thank you all. I've read reviews of the thing by self-confessed 'magicians', occultists, and the like and they all believe it to be real! Whether they, themselves, are genuine is rather more questionable than the book itself.

By the way, I'd settled on a version of it by a fellow named 'Giger' or such - for now.
Again, many thanks.

RED_BLADE:The Nercronomican by Gigar has no relation to the H.P.Lovecraft, its simply a collection of art regarding death

Mr.Sinister, thank you. I went and checked this and of course you were correct. I might order that aswell, since it all is so interesting.

HI,

I know for a fact that I have an electronic version of the necronomicon (would that be the electronomicon?).

If you want a copy I'll email it to you, would this be to your satisfaction?

Can't actually remember where I go this from, but it could have been from one of the small press sites...

Anyway if you want it I got it!

Mr.Sheap, that's great to hear - an 'electronomican'?! Anyhow, please do so and email away! Thanks very much for the offer also.
I received H. R. Giger's artistry and immediately thought, "this guy created the 'Aliens' movie look/creatures", it was that obvious. Damn 'cool' stuff. Incidentally, it has no immediate relation to the Necronomican, but is more of a reference to which Giger makes frequently; 'it', and its implications, forming somewhat of a subconscious birth of wierd-ass expression.

I have a copy of the Necronomicon. I bought it a few years ago (like maybe 12) It is an interesting book. Written by the mad shiek Abdul al' Hazrad. It tells ancient spells on opening the gates to the elder gods. And it tells about the ancient ones like yozathoth (sp?) and the deep one Cthulu. and it tells how to summon the servitors of the outer gods. I will dig for my copy and relay more info on it Later Kids.
