OK being as there are no music related threads on the go, I thought I'd try to find out what your average Wamphyri listens to when their not out feasting on blood.

Personally I like rock/indie music and because I drive for a living I listen to a lot of music. At the moment i'm listening to JJ72's album..JJ72, and Disturbed's, the sickness... http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb1/smile.gif

At the moment? lemme see... ah, VNV Nation.

Let's keep this one in-topic... we've had plenty of music threads before, so let's keep it strictly in the present, not a list of every band everyone likes... no names, but that has happened before!!

Hi Pinhead I didn't get the chance to see JJ72 earlier this year, but next time they tour i'll go and see them, I think their album was the best indie album of last year.

Wampyrlord, if your going to gg's birthday bash in London on saturday, you'll be glad to know that Fear Factory are playing at the Astoria later that night, it's only a ten minute walk from the pub were all meeting at.
They are being supported by Earthtone9, a band I saw about a month ago, they are worth the entrance money alone. :D

I guess I'll be the first to admit to having none other than Busta Rhymes in my CD player right now!! tongue.gif

That and 11 other CDs I made for the road...mostly mixes of Oldies, Dr Demento & Weird Al, Metallica, Tom Petty, and Beastie Boys (bet you never thought you'd see those names mentioned in the same sentence!)
I drive an hour to work now, so I gotta have a variety to make it interesting...

Nathan,

I have to say that I think South Of heaven is a great album, I haven;t listened to it for a few years now, but I think at the time I was into the whole metal scene Seasons in the Abyss was my fave slayer album... no actually it was Decade of aggression!

Right now I am listening to the Gorillaz, and interesting mix of Blur and some dodgy rap and sometimes some techno mixed in for good measure... certainly an interesting sound.

Also in my bag for later is Counting Crows, Travis, Coldplay, Morcheeba, Belle and Sebastian... that's the beauty minidisc.

My lust for music is as changeable as any woman's mood can be. Sometimes I'm Nine Inch Nails, others I'm Queensryche. I even have my Elton John moments. I clean house to the Red Hots or a Christian version of the Chile Peppers called "Channelsurfers". Tonight, tho, I'm into a little known California band called "KRUNK" featuring vocals by the drummer of the Scorpions, James Kottak (AKA: Jimmy Ratchitt) and the drummer for Krunk is Jimmy's wife, Athena (who is Tommy Lee's sister). You may have the answer to a perplexing and vexatious music-trivia question of mine. At one time, I had the sountracks to Crow 1&2. An ex boyfriend poached them both shortly after purchased. A song on one of the CDs featured Grace Slick...a haunting dirge that I really loved. Do you know which CD, and the name of the song? Thanks anyway, folks, but I found it! CD Quest had the soundtrack to "Crow: City of Angels", which had the song I was looking for. "Knock Me Out" done by Linda Perry & Grace Slick. Plus Hole doing "Gold Dust Woman, White Zombie's "I'm Your Boogieman", Iggy Pop doing "I Wanna Be Your Dog", Korn, Filter, and more. I picked up the Matrix soundtrack while I was there.
Oh, and don't be shy about your musical tastes considering your musical education or background....My Grandmother was a concert pianist for Irving Berlin, and I have played classical and Christian music for most of my life...yet I spin plenty of the likes of Marilyn Manson, Danzig, Godsmack, Korn, etc. Most fans of Horror are multifaceted, eh?

From the new Slayer CD released September the 11th of all days...my new anthem!

WAR ZONE

Explosive, you feel the impact hit your face!
What makes you think I'll let you survive?
You want a war? I'm the front line.
Unbroken

This ain't about me
I'm better than you'll ever be.
You don't concern me,
I know you'll never get to me.
You want a shot?
I can take your best, bring it on!
Get ready for the pain.
Cause this is where it's going down.
War zone-this is where it's going down!
War zone-when you walk into my world.
Madness is coming your way.
As long as my heart still beats,
I can guarantee you,
Madness is coming your way!

Survival here is thrust upon you.
Fuel the fire, bring another victim.
Take your lesson in supremacy,
Cause I'm the one who stands
alone at the summit!

This ain't about me
I'm better than you'll ever be.
You don't concern me,
I know you'll never get to me.
You want a shot?
I can take your best, bring it on!
Get ready for the pain.
Cause this is where it's going down.

I am the wall you can never climb.
I am the pain you feel inside.
I bring it all, let the show begin.
I am the war you can never win!

War zone-this is where it's going down!
War zone-when you walk into my world.
Madness is coming your way.
As long as my heart still beats,
I can guarantee you,
Madness is coming your way!

:D

Last sunday me & Mazrah met up with GG,Steve and a couple of their friends, Mel & Barbarella from Newcastle, via Germany-ish...
Anyway we went to the Brixton Acadamy to see rammstein...all I can say is WOW what a performance, if you ever get the chance to see these guys live, you've got to go for it...Flame throwers, Explosions you name it they did it.
Unfortunatly me & Mazrah had too many double Gins for the price of one, and floated out of the gig a bit before it finished, so...sorry GG & Steve....next gig SoaD :D smile.gif tongue.gif

Dodgy old Metallica? The old Metallica's the only Metallica. That new sh*t's an imitation. And not a good one!

Guess it was a taste to be tasted in the 80's though. I can see how it would sound stupid to someone hearing it for the first time almost twenty years later!

Dodgy was only meant as a term of endearment... Dodgy old metallica is the only way to hear it... the stuff from the black album onwards was (for me) really bad commercial shite.

I would like you retract your comment about me:)

July 25th, 2002, 01:11 PM
Sorry, "dodgy" in my own personal speak is a term of endearment, or something good... probably should brush up on Tom-Speak! I also make up words.

I'm not too old but my interest in moosac goes way back... Got into Metallica in the late 80's (very late) and loved the early stuff, although my favourite album(s) would be (what I term as the middle 3) Lightning, Puppets and Justice... FOr me "Kill 'em All" was a little too unpolished in the same way that Slayer's Hell Awaits was a little rough and the same way that the first 2 Sepultura albums were (hmm probably crap is the best word I can come up with here) completely unpolished!

and no disrespect to any of those popular bands!

Nathan
July 25th, 2002, 06:04 PM
Hell Awaits and early Sepeltura were, as you say, "crap"...

But Metallica's unpolished still sounded much better than that uhhh...crap. :D The Four Horsemen is still my fav. I keep hoping they'll re-record it for one of their new CDs...then I think, no...they suck now. I'll just enjoy what I have! :D

But yeah...Master's still the best overall...or maybe Lightning...or...

Have you heard Slayer's "Show No Mercy"? You think Hell Awaits sucks? It came out in '82 and sounded like the band from that movie "Rock Star".

"Stand up and shoooooooooooooouuuuuuuut!!"

OK, so I forgot about the 4 horse men, but it's been at least 8 years since I last heard it, oh and that reminds me of Anaesthesia - Pulling teeth, which I remember being really good:)

On our way out of the Keoghcon hotel, me & Mazrah found the two Swedish guy's, Mikael & Jonas looking glum. They were just about to set off on a long and extremely slow train ride to Heathrow airport via every major, small town in the UK.
So feeling sorry for them , we invited them to travel (of there own free will) down south with us in our car.
They of course accepted, but unfortunatley for them, we had no ABBA on our CD player, instead they had to endure two hours of..

Queens of the stone age

For the past couple of days I've been banging my head to Audioslave debut album...Audioslave :D
The band is made up of 3 former members of Rage against the machine, and Chris Cornell ex lead singer of Soundgarden.
They are being described as the new Led Zepelin, which I believe to be a little unfair (as I have never been a great Led Zepelin fan)but nether the less I rate it as 9 out of ten.

Audioslave's album is a strong contender for my album of the year, but I think my vote would have to go to Queens of the stone age songs for the deaf, who also get my vote for best live gig of the year.

If no one else posts in this thread I will just asume you all agree with me (except of course for a certain east end Goth) tongue.gif

Deano,

The last thing by Chris Cornell I bouhgt (post soundgarden) was his solo effect Euphoria Morning, which was a pile of pooh (IMHO). Is this new one anything like the pile of pooh I mentioned, or worthy of getting as a little xmas bonus for being good?

Cheers for the info

Tops.

ps. Immersion in bands before gigs is something I don't do... although I probably should... going to see Badly Drawn Boy next week, and haven't listened to a thing he's done for about 6 months (oh apart from the new album, I've listened to a couple of times)... I'm thinking this weekend maybe full of badly drawn boy new stuff as I really have no clue about the songs or a feel for the album yet, which could be really bad! Wish me luck, and don't take the p*ss out of some of my taste in music please.

My musical tastes have certainly mellowed over the years... I love U2 and am listening to the greatest hits album quite abit at the moment.

Always loved Heavy Metal (not the current rubbish like slipknot etc) - Iron Maiden, Metallica etc.. but my gigging days are not as forthcoming as in my youth!! Hoping for the Nirvana greatest hits for chrimbo.

I like some of the dance stuff like the prodigy and moby .. to cling to some semblance of youth....

Still partial to a bit of the olde Gothic stuff, like Souxsie and the Banshees, sisters of mercy and the mission.....

There's nothing worse when you're feeling under the weather than people just not leaving you alone... So this week I've mostly been playing Diamanda Galįs... loudly...

This week I have on my CD player - Moby, Tom Waits, Sex Pistols and Guns n' Roses.

All bought in the HMV/Virgin sales to replace my vinyl stuff.

Just got a new toy - an MP3/CD player and right now I'm listening to C Saint Saens' Danse Macabre which follows on from Pitchshifter's Hidden Agenda...

Now I'm working again, I need my MP3 player to ward off weirdos on the Tube (plus it keeeps my ears warm!), so at the mo I'm listing to Kathy's Song by Apoptygma Berzerk...

And why is it that when a CD/mp3 player is on 'random', it always avoids the song you want to hear most (which for me right now is Never Trust a Klingon by SPOCK!)

Call me cheap (and most do) - the CD/mp3 player only cost £30 from Boots of all places in their sale - sound quality's reasonable but a set of better head-phones will improve that...

As for S.P.O.C.K. - Winamp loves them tracks, heard Doc McCoy 3 times yesterday and Never Trust... twice!

I got a new CD of Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails for Christmas to replace my very old and worn out cassette copy so I've been listening to that recently. Also as I've now retreived from my husband's car White Zombie's Astro Creep 2000 I've been reaquainting myself with that too.

currently listening to...

Elton John's Greatest hits (I bought it for Sam as an extra pressie for her b'day last week)

The Streets - Original Pirate Material

still listening to
Queens of the Stonage - Songs for the Deaf

Also, discovered an album I'd bought and not really spent much time listening to:
Belle and Sebastian - Storytelling, which is cracking, and not your normal fare from B&S, which is great any day of the week smile.gif

Anything else? Oh, someone gave me a copy of Nirvana's greatest hits, never got round to replacing my cassettes from a decade ago, but having spent some time with this, I might have to part with my hard earned cash for cds smile.gif The memories came flooding back.
