It had been a while since I've checked the board regularly, I've made a post or 2 lately, but mainly I've been sitting back and watching what's been going on lately.

I want to thank Mr. Lumley and Shadoe
for cleaning the board up, I think that was the main reason I stayed away from it for so long, too much garbage being posted. Some of us really do appreciate all the work you guys put into the site, and appreciate all the info we are given access to here. And the message board itself has been a great place to learn all about other fans of Mr. Lumley. I don't think the cleaning up will take any of that away from us. It's a great community that has been formed here on the board, and I will definitely keep a closer eye on it now.

Once again, thanks to all of you!

To all

I sent an e-mail to Brian, Silky & Shadoe on Saturday in response to Brian's post on the Message Board. I received a reply on Sunday and Brian stated he wished I had posted it onto the board.

Well since the Master requested it here goes:

Dear Brian, Barbara Ann & Dave

Just read the above post on the Message / Breaking News area.

Thought I'd send a brief note (sic) to say thank you for your timely words from someone who isn't interested in turning all your hard work into a RPG site.(Perish the thought).

Regarding the visitors to the Board, it is time to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I must admit I have cut down on the number of posts r/e non-specific items & post now only in reference to your work. A majority of posts I reply to are from people new to the Board and your work who ask bout pre-NecroScope works.

Through the Board, I have gained access to my
favourite author, the newsletter and details of forthcoming publications etc and received items such as the Autograph pack and a tee-shirt from Dave.

I have also managed to obtain five books that I thought I would never be in my collection, "Ghoul Warning", "The Caller of the Black", "Beneath the Moors" "The Horror at OakDeene" and "The Last Rite".

I am a relatively new fan (eight years) yet I have managed to obtain the above rare books in the space of a few months to complete the set. It's been a long eight years to get all the books, but well worth it. I can still remember buying Khai in a Manchester book shop in 1992 and thinking "Who the bloody hell is this Brian Lumley, never heard of him before". I'm so glad I rectified that.

Finally, some of the Brit fans have managed to meet up a few times this year, and especially with Scarlet/Layla and Lord Lich/Billy living near me in South Manchester, there's a few BL fans to socialise with, (although they'll be cribbing my earlier books left, right and centre).

Once again, many thanks for the great effort you all put in to provide my enjoyment and that of all our other fans.

Best of British to you Sir and keep up the good work.

Yours most sincerely

Jason Gallagher - (Jason of Khem)

Jase, fantastic letter and I second that all the way. The site is brilliant, the work put in is much appreciated and I think we're going to have more fun now and can get down to business.

The Master and his Chosen have my full support. I had slowed down my postings on the majority of the messageboard for certain reasons. I for one will be glad when the situations at hand are done and things can get back to the way there were.

I must say before I left it was getting kind of bad. Regardless of who is responsible, what is done is done, I just hope Brian will forgive us and keep up this site. It's kept me up on all the latest releases and given me a look at the master that I would not have been able to obtain anywhere else. And friends..I've made friends here. Let's not screw this up again for the sake of not only Mr. Lumley but his work as well.
Okay, thats it. Thank you Shadoe and the rest of you guys who do a great job maintaining and moderating this site.
and thank you Brian for everything..

Well, I am new to the group but I have read Mr. Lumley's letter concerning the problems that arose. I for one would encourage Mr. Lumley to take the legal action to it's fullest. I can't think of anyway to degrade a collection of work than to try to turn it in to an RPG. The characters that have come alive were and are because of the skillful word weave from Mr. Lumley; to think that the worlds and the people could turn in to characters in a game is paramount to murder. These mental visuals that we derived from the descriptions putforth in any of Mr. Lumley's books was what made these works what they are to us. Trying to recreate them (let alone with out the writers permission) was and is going to ruin the overall effect and impact that the books intended and thereby ruining the work itself. We can't let this happen! We should make an effort to influence or interupt those that are responsible.

I for one will offer any help that may be required of me in order to preserve sthe work I hold dear.

I don't have much to add that hasn't been said already. Brian and Silky have a vision for what they want the site to be and ShadoeWolfe provides the medium and expertise to allow us to view and interact with it. That's all we can ask and we should be grateful that they do it for us (with the help of several others who generously give of their time, too). I have other favorite authors that have NOTHING - no web presence at all. We are so lucky to have this site!

I've been a member of this board since pretty much the beginning when Shadoe dragged me away from UseNet kicking and screaming. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif (I was really just jealous). I'm not a prolific poster, but I contribute to the areas that interest me when I have something to add to a discussion, a question, or to ask other's opinions.

I really look forward to the board "settling down" and seeing some good discussions take place. I'm also looking forward to the WFC and seeing other Lumlians in a couple of weeks or so! Maybe finally we can get some pictures up to go alongside the Manchester 5 (or 7) (or 8 - I forget)?

I don't know you turn your back for a second (well a month or so actually).

I just read Brian's post and although I don't know the details I must admit to being quite disapointed that Mr Lumley has had to post a message of that nature at all.

Are we not all supposed to be Lumley fans?

Having read the above posts I have to agree with all of them, without this board Brian would be just another author whose work I liked, but thanks to Shadoe, the moderators and not forgetting the Lumley's themselves I am part of a community of like minded people who rant and rave about the same things I do, namely BL's work.

I'm glad there seems to be a clean up going on, I seem to remember having posted the same info on several different posts and just getting around the board was proving to be a time consuming task.

Well enough ranting from me, keep up the good work, it is appreciated....Honest http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Just to say, its nice to have the old crew back and some new ones who are going to make this site well wicked again.......

heres a paragraph of my email that i sent to Brian and he suggested, like he did to Jason that i put it here so here goes...

*I'm not going to rake up any old stuff but I am very happy that alot of the mess has been cleared up. This board is going to get back into its original form where people did only talk about your writings and that's the way it should be.*

I’m not quite sure what’s going on except various “friends” of the site have gone on a complete mental breakdown. What in the world would possess someone to take someone else’s work, I guess if the talent isn’t there then you try to get it from the best. To take someone else’s work is stealing or did your mother forget to explain that to you.

If it had not been for Shadoewolfe I would still be ignorant to the rest of Brian Lumley’s work. I’ve read all the Necroscope but Defilers (shame on me) but none of Mr. Lumley’s other work. I only checked the site because I wanted to know when the next Necroscope was coming out. Boy was I in for a wonderful surprise! I spent hours looking through it. I even posted my first message on a board there. I even read ALL of the back issues of the newsletter. I am now an avid reader of Brain Lumley. Through the efforts of Brian, Silky, and Shadoe, they have created an author website that is beyond belief. Whatever you could want to know about Brian Lumley, his family, his wife, his wife’s family or their daily lives, you can find it here. There are very few authors who take an interest in their site much less give an insight into their private lives or go out of their way to meet their fans. What other author would continue a series just because his fans asked for it. Would King, would Barker? He does all the things you wish the other authorse would do? What other author would post immediately on his website the latest news of himself, from the next signing to the next time he is going on vacation? I have never driven 5 hours to see any author, not even Barker and he’s two hours away from me but I will be in Las Vegas on the 10/22.

This site is called "Brian Lumley.com". When you become Brian Lumley then you can say what goes into the site. Until then you can suggest but even that is not your right. It’s only given at the acquiescence of Brian Lumley. There are rules for this site. We all read them when we signed on the site. Only Brain Lumley can change the rules and if you aren’t him then your SOL. It’s a shame that an author who cares so much for his fans and has done so much to keep his fans informed that he has to post a letter like that. The point being is that if you are not Brian Lumley then you have no right to say what goes on with this site without the consent of Brian Lumley. And as far as the rest of us can see there are only a few that have that right but still only at the permission of Brian Lumley.

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD WE WANT TO GO TO ANOTHER SITE ABOUT BRIAN LUMLEY THAT DOESN’T HAVE THE PARTICIPATION OF BRIAN LUMLEY?

This is the only Brian Lumley sight I will EVER visit unless Mr. Lumley personally recommends another site and only if it was up to the caliber of this one.

I agree Scarlet.

And as such...... I would like to thank Mr. Brian Lumley and his wonderful wife Silky in providing to us the incredible stories that we get to read and the services like the autograph packages (to name one).

Also I would like to thank Shadoewolfe himself for the site and the maintenance of such. Truly without him this site would not be what it is and I was amazed and very grateful to Shadoe when Brian Lumley told us in a post that Shadoe does this without any type of monetary gain. That in itself should tell you something about the man. Truly honorable is my opinion.

My thanks goes out to all three of you.

The Greatest Compliment Of All...

I have read books from many a different author, but Brian Lumley's work is the only one that draws readers in and makes them really want to be a part of the worlds he creates. That's probably the greatest compliment you can give an author. People love the bad guys as much as the good guys, and actually get upset when they die (good & bad). How many authors can you say that about? So I can see why people want to do the role-playing thing. Any time you want to "be" Harry or Nestor or David Hero, just pick up the appropriate book and start reading. No role-playing necessary. No laws broken, no one gets offended. If you've already read them and still aren't satisfied with your life and want to get into those worlds again, just give the second greatest compliment of all - read the books over again!

Just want to express my thanks to Brian, Silky and ShadoeWolfe for getting this site back to what it was, a place to talk about Brian and his work. I haven't done that for a long time, just like many of the other old members, the way it was going here.
So, just like Canker and Scarlet said, lets just put all this behind us and try to help make this site even better than it was! http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Jeez, even Brian's message board entry reads like a dream!

This guy exudes talent when he doesn't even try. Seriously, read his message once for the content and then for the style; I think you'll see what I mean.

Woha!

Talk about some changes! I've been away from the site for about a month, and just returned today. Wow.

About the role-playing, I will admit that I was a participant, but I would also like to say that at least I came up with an original character! It was fun, while it stayed true to its origin. In the last few months though it has degenerated (dare I say nuclear bombs!?!!??), which was a main reason for my absence. I would wish to submit my apologies for participating in the role-playing, not realizing it was a copyright infringment. The Masters works should not be debased in any way, especially by his own fans!

Now, thanks the masters and moderaters of this site, for providing us with such a rich resource on one of the greatest authors of our time. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Cheers

sorry for the edit, I've got to learn to proof-read!

Well I suppose it is my turn.

Had been away on holiday so missed Brian's posting till yesterday..... as with many I emailed him and to my shock and delight receieved a response today. I too have been asked to share with you some of my comments sooooooo will post most of my letter here ....

Mr Lumley,

I just wanted to send my thanks to you. Thank you for your wonderful works of fiction
and for the brilliant choice you made with Shadoe as your right hand. Most of all I
wanted to thank you for your time. Without the time and effort you, Silky and Shadoe
put into this site I would have missed the opportunity of meeting some wonderful people
and the opportunity of getting to know you as a person, not just the man who weaves incredibly hypnotic tales.

I also wanted to express my sadness for what recently transpired within the messageboard
of BL.com and to extend my apologies if at any time I was one of the people who disappointed you. I did occasionally join in the 'madness' that ran amok in the games forum. Though the mess that it turned into drove me away from the majority of the
board........

I am a very new fan..... I had to laugh when I saw someone mention being a fairly new fan. I believe that person stated they had only known of your works for eight years. I only just stumbled upon your works approximately 6 months ago. You had me hooked from the first sentence of 'Necroscope'. I look forward to many more hours of being swept into the worlds and characters you've created.

Let me close by saying I am glad that things have been cleaned up at the messageboard
and I look forward to participating and learning more and more.

Long and prosperous life to you, your lovely wife and your timeless works of art.

Thanks again....
Most Sincerely Yours,
Kim aka Rowena
