No, not the London music venue! You guys are my trusted movie reviewers, so I can't believe that there's a vampire film out next week and I've not heard anyone mention it yet!
Only heard of it on Saturday when I saw a poster for it on the Tube, and thought it looked cool. The website makes it sound quite intriguing (but aren't they supposed to?)... vampires against werewolves, but what promises to be so good can so often turn out so bad!
Anyone know any more about it? Lemme know before I get off my gargantuan behind to go to the cinema!

I didn't check this out anywhere (also after seeing the poster on the tube!) cos it has Kate Beckinsale in it and that scared me in a bad way!

I am planning on seeing it the 20th this month for my B-day. I would be seeing it on the 19th, but I have to work!! Ah well.. A day's wait will do me good - and form the trailers - this movie looks great....

I've seen the trailor, looked ok, though things like this turn out to be shite and cliché in the end, I hope not though, looks like it has decent grounding.

*Cue Film 2003 music*
Da Da Dah, Da de dah, Da Da Dah, Da Da Da Da Dah.
We did mention this a while ago but we got a bit mixed up between Kate Beckinsale and Helen Baxendale, like you do.
I looked this up recently on IMDB and it said the film was at the post-production stage but it wasn't going to be released till next Summer.
The release date must have been brought forward so it doesn't clash with next year's Van Helsing film.

I stand by my original post (while kicking Pedar sneakily on the ankle for being a smart-arse)... it's out in a week and it wasn't currently being discussed, and I wanted to know more...

Underworld-
Looks like there is an age old war between the vampires and the werewolf clans. The werewolves find a "human" who's blood is "special" (whatever that means) and hold the key to the endurrance of the werewolf clans.
The main Vamp, Kate Beckinsale( from Pearl Harbor and Serendipity fame) falls in love with this man while trying to protect him from the werewolves.
That's what I found so far.

Sony is being sued by White Wolf, makers of Vampire the Masquerade Rpg because of similarities between the plot of the film and their game. Personally I think this is a bit rich it being the case that their Rpg plunders many of the 'classic' vampire books and films.
I use classic loosely as Anne Rice is one of their main sources of reference for the game

OK - just saw the film last night and here is my biggest problem with it:
For some reason, these vampires have trouble seeing in the dark. There are a couple of obvious sections of the film that darkness is used to the Lycans advantage over the vamps - which makes no sense.
My next little complaint - silver seems to have no effect on the vamps whatsoever but injures the werewolves.
Put those two little goofs behind you though and you have a very intense action flick with lots of gore and great effects, as well as a good backstory and plotline where history comes full circle in the movie. And I hate to say it, but Kate Beckinsale looked really good in the black pleather. grin.gif Can't wait for it on DVD and the fact that the ending leaves it open for a sequel...

Yet to see it but I will soon and some of my friends are raving about it.
Silver having an adverse effect on vampires is quite a recent addition to the myth as far as I can divine, but it has always been one of the banes of werewolves.
Vampires and werewolves being fictional creatures I think it is fair play to invent whatever rules you like for them creatively speaking, as long as you are consistent.

So far in the media, I've heard nothing but bad things about this film, so nice to hear some different view points. Not that I've ever paid any attention to reviewers in the past!
And yes, fictional! Santa Claus doesn't exist either... ;)

Finally saw this last night. SPOILERS coming...
If you can get past the "Lumley Factor" and watch it for their idea of what vampires and werewolves are all about, it's really a pretty good flick.
I liked the idea that werewolves were "guard dogs" for the vampires upon a time.
It's kind of the flip-side to the old saying, "don't bite the hand that feeds you"... this movie's lesson is "don't betray those who protect you" ... or I guess it could be, "don't leave your vampire daughter alone with the guard dogs"
!!!

Watched this today, and I have to say I really enjoyed it - plenty of action similar in style to Blade.
Yeh ... away from the Lumley-factor this is well worth a look
