Well although there are some horror type films at the cinema I ain't seen as yet ... I had a family trip to the cinema to watch the latest Disney offering. My duties as a Dad....
The animation is great from Pixar, but the story is like so many of those other Disney efforts seen before... kids will love the characters if only to pester parents to buy the figures! Some adult in jokes - but not many. Shrek is still the daddy IMHO!
Any other Lumlians been to see this one yet ....

yeah, saw it yesterday smile.gif
Here's my opinion:
It was nice... It was not as good as Toy Story or Monsters Inc (my favs in the "genre"), because Toy Story was the first and had a really strong story, and Monsters Inc as it has a really strong story (did I just repeat myself). This is the best looking film of the CGI animation era so far, but it has the weakest story - which is a shame as the characters were cool (especially Bruce), and some of the jokes were very funny smile.gif
Over and out
Tops
note: I wasn't disappointed with the film:)

Nice little film but it didn't break any ground really
It was funnier for me perhaps because my wife is Australian, mate, mate mate.

Here is a little bit of trivia for ya ;)
There is a running theme in just about all Disney films.....
The hero or heroine (did I spell that right? grin.gif ) always seem to either lose 1 parent or both parents within the movie... or they start with only 1 parent.
Have you noticed that?
Peter Pan.... no parents
Belle.... no mother
Nemo... mother dies
Cinderella... no parents
Bambi... mother dies
Etc.
Anyone else notice this?

yep I noticed years ago, its why I stopped watching disney films, because I couldn't cope with utter mind numbing cliché shite they seem to come up with. Disney aren't worth watching past the Lion King (even though simba lost a parent tongue.gif )

"START OF RANT"
I think you'll find that the essence of all great tales have a certain structure, there are certain rules to story telling that Plato came up with thousands of years ago that are designed to instantly draw people to a character or story, not all stories use these rules but most use some of them.
1 Main character is nearly always an orphan or something along those lines.
2 They always undertake a journey
3 There's nearly always a wise man/older man in the tale to guide the hero
4 Then comes discovery of ones self/powers etc
5 Then there subsequent return
Stories that use these guide lines faithfully: Star Wars/Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter even our beloved Necroscope does it and not just with Harry, Nathan's route through the vampire world books follows those 5 guide lines almost exactly, there are many tales done throughout history that adhere to these simple rules, not all of them follow them exactly, but nearly always something from the above rules always gets in, and it's what makes it an appealing story.
And also don't forget Disney didn't write all of there stories, especially there earlier cartoons as these have been children's classics for many many years.

good point peder, and I love lord of the rings and Necroscope but... I share a passionate hatred for black and white story lines in general, and the two I listed just now are exceptions to that rule because both stories have ambiguous elements.
Over the years I read, watched and listened to those type of stories you say that have this pattern, and I theorise its appealing to the general public because they can't be bothered thinking or challenging the way things are.
But for me Disney is mindless kack whether or not it was made from classic fairy tales or not, and even when I was a kid just after the lion king, I realised I hated black/white stories lines. Nowadays I don't even believe in that tenuous theory called good and evil, I just think there are many shades of grey.
I'm not trying to start an argument, its just my opinion that not all great appealing stories need these elements to make it a great story, and I'm glad there are writers out there who want to challenge the old way of story telling formula, but there are not enough.

wow-all this over some animated sea-creatures! tongue.gif
my little brother has the story book (damned slave to advertising!) it looks quite cute but nowhere near as good as Monsters inc, Shrek or Toy Story.

what caused the disney bashing? Technically Finding Nemo is not a Disney film (if we are to pick holes), it was only distributed by Disney...
And I really liked it, even though it was weaker than other films of said CGI genre.

... I found it pretty good entertainment - and have to say I have enjoyed many Disney offerings over the years. They are kids films when all said and done - and when I was a young un' I loved The Jungle Book and in recent times Aladin.
I love Shrek ... but as for the Pixar/Disney efforts Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc were great. This ones a good addition although the story is lightweight. My Son loved it.. and I reckon its good for young un's to enjoy the cinema experience - which Disney films have done for many a year.

ALso, I think we're all forgetting the moral of this... errrrm, it's about arguing with parents, and not really understanding what you've got until it's gone, it's a good one for both children and parents to listen to.
RIght I've clearly gone mad, and I'm off smile.gif
