I'm a big fan of the original, noticed some of you had seen the remake.... what do you think?

Planning to see it next weekend, I think its out this Friday....

Nahh I've seen the orginals but films like this are not for me I'm afraid, not a big fan of creepy horror films...

I may be going to see Shaun of the Dead instead though, so I can give you a review of that if you like when I get round to checking it out.

It's a little more creepy, a little less disgusting.

Them zombies are on crack or sumpthin'... never seen the dead walk so fast!

I recommend it...

I've been jumping up and down like a 5 year old since this film came out. I can't wait to see it! I'm so glad they focused on the creepiness and atmosphere, instead of gore. I think gore sometimes when it's over done turns the horror film into a mildly sick amusing comedy film.

yey

ahhh, but the first one may well be full of gore, but it's still psychoilogically one of the most frightening and depressing films I've ever seen. I hope they haven't lost that.

I'll be seeing this, but when I don't know.

Seeing the film tonight! I can't wait, I remember the first being very moving as it has been 7 years since I last saw it and I remember it vividly. It's just so bleak, surreal, and mundane all in one, the mundane and surreal parts all at the same time. Example, having romantic dinners in the shopping centre, while zombies bashed on the building doors. What a great film, will just have to try and not have a biased view when seeing the film tonight. I've heard it's kept the bleakness and the psychological horror in the mix and apparently there is less gore.

yeah, but they couldn't easily keep the undertones of the nuclear family now could they?

Sophie

Well the nuclear family would be eaten and severely decreased, yes grin.gif

Just come back from seeing the film. I really liked it, it did stand up to the original film in many ways, making it better, and some ways it lacked, but there was more good stuff to make up for the negative elements (which I won't mention until people have seen the film for fear of giving away anything and then being beaten by a wet fish for doing so). It was quite interesting how they added more humour in it, it really worked, and didn't make the film any less atmospheric, actually added to it.

I like both the original and the remake, I don't think I can choose between them. Both in my mind as good as each other.

I'd love to see a review of Shaun of the Dead, Helm, or anyone else who's planning on seeing it... I'm a big fan of Simon Pegg, but I saw the two words guaranteed to put me off a movie (no, not Ben Affleck!)... romantic comedy *shudders*!

Pegg's description of it as a RomZomCom and what I've seen of the trailers I don't think its going to be any more of a romance than Spaced was... At least I hope not - I can't wait to see The Actor Kevin Eldon on the big screen!

I've just realised - I really miss The Curious Orange... Whatever happened to Lee and Herring?

I'll probably be seeing it next week on our weekly monday trip to the cinema. I does look very funny in places!

Night, Day and Dawn all freaked me out. It's one of my worst nightsmares ... the walking dead that is.

I first saw Night when it came out 100 years ago, and it freaked me out even more when the brother said "They're coming to get you Bar-ba-ra." And, of course, he paid for that remark I'm happy to say.

Saw the preview for the remake of Dawn on late night BBC. We'll see it but I'll wait for the DVD and watch it in comfort.

And yes, that's the fastest moving zombies I've every seen. Zombie olympics anyone?

That's my tuppence worth... grin.gif

I'd love to see this, I loved the original and really want to see the new one. A friend told me toinght that he'd just been and it was really good, some things were the same and some different but overall a great movie.

I'll wait for DVD though and watch it in the comfort of my own home.

Also really want to see Shaun of the Dead too, that looks hilarious.

Refreshed my memory with watching the original last night ... a classic.

Off today to see the remake....... we'll see....

As for Shaun of the Dead, reckon it'll be a Sky one for me... but the advertising in the 'phone boxes is brilliant!! Makes me laugh as I walk through town...

Wow.. this was 'bloody' great. A frantic, edge of the seat thriller. Different to the original.. in fact more in style and tone to 28 Days Later. Yes there was a shopping mall, but thats were the similarities end. I thought it was brilliant, a real buzz film.

Anyone who does go pllleassse stay through the credits, more than half left the cinema and missed the home video running through...

OK, I posted this elsewhere... but it should be here really, but I want it left elsewhere...

I wasn't impressed by Dawn of the Dead one bit. I was told it was great, I was told it was scary. It wasn't either. My mate really liked it though. I was let down. Worst bit... can't tell you as it'll spoil it. Although the characterisation was a lot dubious through out.

Later,

A1, to comment on yours, I disagree in the fact that it was as you say a "frantic edge your seat thriller"... I really wanted to like it aswell.

I do believe this might be good on video, which is maybe where I should have left it...

I'm not sure what to say mate.... it was one of those films that I was dubious about prior to seeing it... so didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did. I thought it was very fast paced and intense stuff. Different to the original in most areas, BUT entertaining in its own way..... pity you didn't enjoy it Tops I thought you may well have been pleasantly surprised.

to add, one of my friends thinks I've been desensitized to the whole genre, which would be a bad thing.

I will give it a second chance on video though - I wanted to enjoy it. that might make it something special. I'll need to turn the brightness up and contrast down though - it needs to be less colourful.

I think it had to do with your expectations more than your high tollerance for the macabre.

I didn't expect much either and ended up liking it. If I'd've heard all the buzz beforehand, like you did, I'd probably have been let down too.

As I wrote in another string of posts. I saw the remake of DOTD when it was relelased here stateside and while wnating to pick it apart with comparisons to the original I found myself really liking it. The first ten minutes of the movie are really good and then there is a couple parts that I really got a good laugh of "oooohhhh" out of me. Don't know if I was ever on the edge of my seat but it really grabbed me.

And as I have said if you look at the plotline at like a 50,000 foot level it is the same as the original, just fleshed and detailed out differently. After it has been out for awhile I will start a post discussing the details of what I mean on that, want to wait until it has been out long enough to get some good conversation going about it though.

Maybe I just enjoyed this so much because most horror movies that are coming out recently have been pretty bad. With the exception of 28 days later, which I thought was brilliant(especially with the alternate endings on the DVD) mass market horror movies have really left me wanting.

I think I am probably the only person on this message board that thought House of 1000 Corpses was complete garbage...and I paid to go see it in the theater when it first came out....oh well, back to my box.
