He says it'll be a couple of years and that Part V won't be called The Creeping Shadow, (as previously reported) but that when it does finally come out it'll be all three final installments of the series released together!!
King sends us his apologies for the wait and gives us the prologue to The Dark Tower: Part V (http://www.stephenking.com/DT5Prologue.html)
FYI smile.gif

Actually he thanks us for our patience...who says I'm patient!?!
I take it as an apology.

I've got all 4 of them Nathan, and have only read the first book when it first came out..lol
One of these days I'll get to reading them, I guess at the time it seemed pretty 'off the wall' to his usual writings and I just couldn't get into it. Why I would buy the other 3 books is beyond me though, it must be meant to be that I would read them eventually!

Being "off the wall" is its appeal!
That first book you read is basically just an introduction to Roland and Mid-World. I too thought it was pretty weak when I first read it...but it makes a lot more sense after reading the rest of them.
You should really give it a try. It's the best work he's done IMHO. smile.gif Some people didn't much care for the fourth and latest installment, but I loved it! Classic love story/demented spaghetti western. smile.gif
Did you ever read The Eyes of the Dragon? The one he wrote because his daughter was complaining about not being allowed to read any of his books? Great little fairy tale type story with many parallels to The Shawshank Redemption. Anyway...if you did, Dennis and Thomas from that book are supposed to play a big role in upcoming DT books.
Jack Sawyer from The Talisman is also supposed to have a significant role in Mid/End-World in another upcoming collaboration with Peter Straub...The Talisman II: The Black House.

Ohh a second Talisman? Cool, really enjoyed that one. The movie didn't impress me, but compared to books, they never do. Yep, has Eyes of the Dragon too, liked that one. He didn't do too bad with that, and I've always liked Straub's books.
I suppose its because I've never been fond of reading westerns, although I do love a spaghetti film! Especially the scores! I'll try it though on your recommendation :)

Cool! Hope you like it.
Parts 2 and 3 are nothing like westerns. You have a while to go before that in Part 4. smile.gif
...and if you plan to read The Talisman II...you probably wouldn't understand a lot without reading the DT's anyway...from what I hear. smile.gif
btw--Anyone who read the prologue to the next DT...who's Arthur Eld? He's mentioned in the Dreamlands books too...?

I found this little bit (http://bbs.simonsays.com/bbdocs/Forum4/HTML/006708.html) about Steve and Pete too. :D (Since you say you like Straub.) smile.gif
I don't know where this person got their info...

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Callahan knew they were there because he had seen them. He had seen them because the thing under the church floor had awakened. They would want the thing under the floor, and that was good because the Old Fella, who had once run from a town called Jerusalem’s Lot in another world, wanted to be rid of it. If he wasn’t rid of it soon, it would kill him.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Did you guys get the idea that Father Callahan had somehow gotten his hands on one of the Wizard's glasses? That's what I thought, but...
...some are saying that the Worm from underneath the church (based on HPL) in Jerusalem's Lot has somehow followed the clergy into Mid-World...?

talisman 2? whens it out, i read the first one about 15 years ago at least. i was impressed by it, but would want to have to read a whole series of Dark tower books to be able to understand t2? what do you mean by this? being a used to be fan of king, i may venture back and get this one when it comes out in paperback.

It should be out by September 15th.
I'm sure it will mainly be a Talisman book, but is supposed to (heavily) feature elements of The Dark Tower as well as Peter Staub's Ghost Story (which is a pretty chilling tale). Even parts of the original Talisman flew over my head until I'd re-read it years later...after the DT's
The Dark Tower books probably won't be required reading for understanding the book...just highly recommended...by millions of people!! :D They really are great fantasy books. smile.gif

DT5 is finished!! One down and two to go before we'll see it though! :(
I'm still not getting my hopes up that even that will be the end.
There is speculation that the final three DT installments will be left wide open to make way for a third Talisman book with Peter Straub to finally wrap it all up... in about TEN YEARS!!
FYI for those interested. smile.gif

Cool. smile.gif Keep in mind what I posted about the first one. It doesn't flow very well or seem to make much sense until you get into the second book. smile.gif
How 'bout you, Ema? You gotten around to these yet?

... I'm awaiting my copy from good old amazon .. so only a few weeks to go. Still re-reading The Wastelands.
Has anyone got Volume 1 of the Concordance -- its a pretty nifty little book.

Haven't picked it up yet, Lupa, and still trying to decide if I want to. Thereonly so much you can know about a series of books. grin.gif
But if you're into stuff like that, keep an eye out for a book called The Road to the Dark Tower by Bev Vincent (a personal friend of mine, to drop a name)... it will encompass all seven books, though, so it won't be out till around the end of 2004. smile.gif
Who do you think that is in the wheel chair? My first thought was that it was 'Detta (or Susannah), but why would she be nekkid?

Thanks for the tip .. I know theres a second volume of the concordance coming out as well when Number 7 has been published -- as you say theres a limit to the amount of info you can take in on a book series.
Studied the cover and I can't see any legs, so I'm pretty sure it'll be Susannah/Detta - but we'll have to wait and see why she's naked......Its a few years since I read the Dark Tower and I have to say I'm really enjoying re-re-reading it, its certainly King at his best.

You gotta admit, Peder, that that little segment in W&G that was taken from The Wizard of Oz was just the sort of whacked out sh*t The Walkin' Dude would come up with to mess with the minds of the people he's messin' with i.e. The Stand.
I thought it was hokey too at first, till I re-read it and thought about it in that context. It wasn't so much King taking them there as it was Flagg's doing...

Some people have no taste tongue.gif

I found it very interesting. It looks at all of his stories and how they relate to each other. That all his work is attached to this Dark Tower keeping the Universes together. Again it might not appeal to all readers but just thought I'd post in case anyones missed this book

hmmm when I get some money I'm definetly getting that as well!
I remember reading Insomnia and the dark tower was mentioned in that, it was the base plot that everything revolved around. It was only mentioned briefly, but I liked the touch tongue.gif

That is a really great book put together by the one and only Stan Wiater, who also helped compile the BL Companion...
But check out this thread (http://bbs.simonsays.com/bbdocs/Forum4/HTML/006597.html) for quite a few missed connections that I've found over the last couple years. grin.gif
As well as Insomnia, Hearts in Atlantis and The Talisman books are also closely related to the Dark Tower books, as is The Shining... but the connections for that one are yet to come. smile.gif

ahh the Talisman, I love that book, it made me laugh, cry and shout smile.gif ... anyway, lol, it just brings the memories back of me being 11 and reading that book, then wanting to write my own books because it inspired me so much, and here I am nearly 10 years later and it still inspires me to do just that. Sorry being soppy and sentimental, don't mind me tongue.gif

Wolf made you cry too, huh? He was one of the coolest characters of all time, IMO. That's why I can't wait for this book to arrive...
I'm speculating here, but the 'Wolves' of the Calla could very well be those mean relatives Wolf spoke of in The Talisman, right here and now!
Have y'all read that prologue yet? The link's in this thread's first post...
