Think you need to re-read Avengers though, Jake left him in a nuclear sub which is where and how he died. He made Jake take him somewhere dark from Perchorsk so he did, he tracked a sub through David Chung and left him there, somewhere with the heat and effects of the sun but not the light. The last few pages were about Ian's vision of the future
