I know this has been done before, but it gives a chance for 'new guys n gals' to air their musical preferences/dislikes.

In the last couple of months I've been going completely retro and digging out OLD stuff (as well as new). You can currently find me listening to, among others, Sabbat - Dreamweaver, Maiden - Live at Donnington ( I was there), Anthrax Among The Living (Much based on S King novels - beware the Walkin' Dude), Some really old Del Amitri stuff (yep, that's right) and various 'Tallica offerings from the early days. This list is NOT exhaustive. I have so much to listen to all over again. Hey, I may even dig out some Wolfgang Amadeus, too

Recent stuff would be Goo Goo Dolls, QWOTSA and White Stripes. There is so little new stuff around that impresses these days, so I guess reverting to original music choice is the best thing to do.

Oh yeah, and any 70's Glam Rock/Cheesy stuff is excellent, too. :D :D

I really can't say I have broad musical tastes... I detest most pop music (except 80s electronic), indie (unless you go back 15 years to the likes of PWEI and Wonderstuff, not this bedwetter/ XFM style crap), metal (yes, even Axegrinder!), rap, r'n'b, blues, jazz... you name it, I dislike it!

And despite my name, I'm not keen on most traditional style goth... I don't mind listening to old stuff like Bauhaus or Siouxsie, but not bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation or Lacrimosa... I'd sooner cut my ears off!

Think that there's not much left to like? Just industrial and EBM (electro body music) really... 'cybergoth' stuff. It's still a huge genre in it's own right, as my CD collection and 'list of bands seen' will attest. Rotersand rule the world, Ayria is the queen of music, and Implant, Covenant, Combichrist, Unter Null and loads of others make up the government (this is in my world, OK!).

And of course, EMP are the pretenders to the throne (yes, of course it's my band!) :)

That'll be Rammstein & Einsturzende Neubauten for you then!! Not much call for drumsticks there, methinks!!! :D :D :D

Not quite! Rammstein are a little commercial (and verging on too 'metal'!) for my tastes, though I don't mind them, very good live. Never been a fan of Einsturtende either, used to listen to them a bit way back when...

And there is actually a big call for drums... live drummers are the 'in thing' at the moment, and I've been asked to play with two other bands. Nitzer Ebb have been a big influence methinks, and Feindflug had 4 live drummers on stage when I saw them in June!

I like all the good stuff!

Don't like dance, r'n'b, rap, wingey, whiney, droney stuff like Coldplay etc but not quite as limited as GG, I like rock, metal, punk and goth - that is traditional goth and cyber goth.

I didn't know you liked The Wonderstuff GG, they're my cooking tunes, I love them!

I like most music but i've just loaded up the car for the trip to the con with:

SOAD x 2
Hazel O'Connor (Live)
Ramstein
Evanesence
Bowie (Pre 80's)
Pink - for Sarah
Orson - Sarah again

Luckily, i'm taking the in car dvd to keep her quiet so the last two will not be heard.

Bowie pre 80's! Pure genius. I read somewhere quite a while ago that he used to form the basic content of his lyrics by ripping out sentences from mags and newspapers and shuffle them together, then hey presto, he'd have a new tune! Bizarre, but different.
Am currently having a run on the new Maiden album. Well, us old rockers, you know....... (And just who the hell is Benjamin Breeg?). Any answers (clean ones) gratefully received and worth a pint next friday for attendees!! :D :D

Ouch, Sharon!! That's a bit harsh. Hate always seems such an extreme word. I use the term 'dislike with aplomb'. Seems to work, cos all the nurks & numpties around here look at you funny!! Y'know, wide eyed n brainless!! :D

Rixy while I was still up at 7am, as you know, I think that by that time Chris was so broken that even if I'd have been hammering on his face he wouldn't have noticed!!

My new favourite tune is the one that goes "what's that coming over the hill, is it a monster?" I don't know who it's by or what it's really called but that's it.

Thanks Debs, I don't really think it'd be your cup of tea so in that respect I don't think you're missing anything, but I could be wrong! That's how up to date I am too in that I had no idea about the name of song or band!

DC it's one of those songs that just gets into your head somehow and won't go away, you know when you hear someone else singing it and it becomes contageous

I am going to be completely honest and say I really like Will Young and Robbie Williams!

I think the best gig I have ever been to was Goldfrapp at the Carling Academy in Birmingham, but then again the Doves were pretty amazing too and Hot Chip supported them.

The Automatic are really quite good, Monster was a brilliant track!!!! Played to death by Radio 1 however!!!

I have been addicted to Scissor Sisters for the past couple of years - which is hard for me because, even though they're from NY, they get no air time here. Thanks to Amazon.com and ebay, I've been able to keep up with this obsession.

Conventionally, am still listening to Bowie (early stuff) and have had the 70's resurrected within, thanks to the great great music of The Sweet:cool: . How is listening to Bowie controversial? Seriously...

As for puppets, is there any difference between that and the currently available release?

Looking forward to seeing metallica at wembley in july. I'm hoping my ears may bleed for this one...

Bizarely listening to Oasis in the car today. Might have to change it for Sepultura on the way home... hell who knows?

Sepultura bloody marvellous. Beneath The Remains STILL their best ever, before the split and Max departed. Saw them at the Marquee (On Tottenham Court Road after it moved) many Sundowns ago - I think I'm right in saying it was their inaugural UK gig. Simply awesome.

I was perhaps too young to see that, although I did see them a couple of times in London over the years... for me their high was Arise... then they started to slope... Am I right in thinking Max's last album was Roots? I never got as far as that!

As for Puppets - I thought that might be a brag, but as it's the same content is it really a brag? :P

Chris Banks
May 10th, 2007, 05:39 PM
Roots. That was the tribal thingy they did, wasn't it? Is there a track on there called 'Rattamahatta' or something that's totally drum oriented? And yes, I think it was Max's last album before Soulfly, who I was very disappointed with - well, most of their stuff, anyway.

Yeah, brag was good, but I've got lyrics in Japanese that I can't even fathom!! What exactly does 'back to the flont' on Disposabre Heloes mean, anyway???:D :D

Am also getting into Fear Factory the second time around.

l know this will appeal to very few of you but l had the most fantastic time last night. Saw Meatloaf at Glasgow SECC, what a show this guy does, his band are excellent. 2h35m of absolute rocking classic songs. Bring on the 28/10/07 when i'm going again.

l don't care what anyone says about the guy, for someone who is 60 later this year he does a awesome routine that a lot of the younger musicians now-a-days could'nt even match:p

Australia's been THE magnet for gigs of late, didn't have the $$$$ for Slayer, with Mortal Sin(Aussie Death Metal from late 80's), Mastodon. That was in May, I think. Then I missed Nine Inch Nails last month. Saw Ice Cube(my taste IS varied:rolleyes:) at a the Enmore, a small theatre holding about 3,000--awesome.
On Saturday I saw Marilyn Manson at Horden Pavilion, not as small but just as good. My mate got us tix to that so we missed Motorhead on the same night--THAT would of taken me back some:rolleyes:.
Iron Maiden goes on sale this weekend, The Big Day Out is on sale tommorrow. My mate will be trying to get lucky(with fingers crossed). Its a festival-type show on the Australia Day weekend in January, with around twenty bands playing on 3 or 4 stages. Headlining this year is Rage Against The Machine, Bjork & Grinspoon. It's always a hectic day.
RATM tix for their own show in Sydney sold out in 2 minutes:mad::mad::mad:.
Chemical Brothers is another show I'd like to see, thats in March. athey must be havin' a break after London--looks like a busy tour.
Anyway, a good, albeit expensive year for music Down Under, just thought I'd rub it in although I have missed/will miss most of the good sh*t. I can only work so much :(.
