View Full Version : Lumlian 'Wants' List

Are there any of Brian's works that you are short of? Any particular editions that you've always wanted, but never had the opportunity to get?
I know the net has loads of out of print book sites - but I'm thinking of something a little simpler...
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm always on the look-out for Brian's books. Even copies of stuff I already own. Its those times...when I stand in a second hand bookshop, looking at the BL books before me, thinking 'I've got this - but I wonder if anyone else would need it?'
So - If you have any 'Wants', put them here.
Maybe we can look out for each other...

Excellent idea, SpOOk! I too have extras laying around. Awww. Maybe they can find a home. smile.gif
I just need The Lost Years...both books, both in hardcover, and both UK edition.
Beyond that I'm just looking forward to...Deadspeak, Deadspeak, Deadspeak. And then...Deadspawn, Deadspawn, Deadspawn. (I speak of Tor hardcovers...for those who're thinking I'm nuts. :D) Bring 'em on!!
I can't wait. smile.gif

Up till the moment I menioned it (just now) Ive been lucky in being able to find odds and sods...
Though there are some things I'd really like...
Hard covers (UK editions) started coming out at a time when I really couldn't afford em, so I'd love HoDII, Lost Years 1 & 2 and Invaers in hard cover...
Also those rarities you need a second mortgage for...
...Caller of the Black, Horror at Oakdeene, Ghoul Warnings...
And not forgetting all those collections that contain those little seen short stories ...
But I'll keep my open for others... :)

EBAY... EBAY... EBAY!
Hey guys! I am filling in most of my collection at Ebay because the local bookstores only carry multitudes of books that are going to sell alot of, because of a "household" name or a new movie. I figure there is a bookstore in the middle of Buttscratch, Oklahoma just dying to get rid of a Brian Lumley book that is taking up room on their bookshelf when they could make money on the latest King, Rice, or Koontz release... so I try to do them a favor.
And believe it or not I check to see who the high bidder is... I don't wanna get into a bidding war with someone from this site if I am picking up an extra copy and maybe one of my buddies here is looking for a hard to find edition to round out their collection.

Ok deano, I won't tell you that in August, Psychomech will be released over here and that in October, Psychosphere will be. And I'll be quite sure not to tell you that the final installment, Psychamok, is slated for an August 2002 release over here. I mean - it would be just wrong since you asked me not to. :D
Actually, the UK editions are just as hard to come by as the US ones from what I've seen, but someone was selling all three on ebay: [edit] but i just spotted the fact that someone named 'mazrah' has the high bid on both auctions going on right now! smile.gif hmmmm...wonder if I know who that mazrah is... :D Good luck on the auction deano!

Nice one Deano!
Just to let you all know, if any of you didn't already, I'm always happy to help out with stuff like this, so I'm gonna print out this list of 'wants' (and whenever it is updated) and keep my eyes open for stuff... if I see anything from anyone's list, I'll buy it straight away and let you know... I'm gonna be making a trip to the Fantasy Centre soon, and they usually have a few goodies lying around!
So, it may be a good idea to either post (or mail me direct) if you manage to remove anything from your wants list... but then, I could always put it on ebay if I get a duplicate!
Happy hunting guys!

July 8th, 2001, 09:57 PM
Which one are you missing Deano?
I've got an extra copy of Psychomech if it's that one.
I've also got in paperback, extras of...
Tor...Invaders
Hero of Dreams (Two copies)
Deadspawn
The House of Doors
Malibu Comic--Necroscope #4
Not really anything rare, but these cost me next to nothing. I'd let them go for the cost of shipping only if anyone's missing them.

Deano,
I have a spare copy of Psychamok if you're interested, and later this year (or early next), I should have a spare set of the dreamlands series (TOR editions). I wouldn't want to separate the series though.
Pybob,
I know where I can get you a copy of Invaders, UK HC, if you want it e-mail me and I'll see what I can do, although it'll have to wait until payday as I am skint after booking my holiday. Oh and it's cover price.
Did someone mention HoDII HC? I know where to get that for cover price aswell.
I'm missing Second wish and other Exhalations. That's it. Although I am building up my Ganley collection... I'm currently missing 6 HC editions. Then I'll stop. Although I will eventually get round to getting all of the wierdbooks with BL stuff that isn't printed anywhere else. I would like an origninal of Synchronicity or Something, but that is a rare find. Also a HC of ghoul warning would be nice.
Cheers,
Tops

I guess I'll toss my hat into the ring as well. My wish list consists of only one book that I am missing. "Caller of the Black". Now I see this on E-bay quite regularly, however I cannot afford the 125.00 price tag at the moment. So if anyone of you happens to see it in the 50 or so price range then I would be the happiest Little Lumlian around. smile.gif
I wish I had extras around to help everyone else out, alas whenever I want to get an extra, my significant other whaps me!..lol.
P.s. I think I am missing 3 & 4 of the Malibu Necroscope comics as well.

NATHAN!! Thank you! Got the books yesterday and got a bonus! Your copy of Maze of Worlds signed by you & Brian and used for your bit on the Companion (and I don't mind the highlights at all!)! If you want it back since I already have a copy, I will send it.. but believe me.. I will treasure it!
Methinks Pratchett will just have to sit on the back-burner whilst I delve into Hero & his dreams!

Just a quick word to Lumlians in the UK.
If you have a branch of the bookshop chain 'The Works' nearby, keep an eye out in their 'Miscellaneous Fiction' section. Today in Derby, I turned up a Lumley 'Ship of Dreams' paperback. I asked if they had any more, but were a little vague...
However - the prices were good !
I picked up 4 copies - Headline books, First published in GB 1989. All in pretty good condition. They were, frankly, amazingly cheap - £1.50 each
If anyone wants a copy, let me know.

Just finished Never a Backward Glance. Man, was that a good one! I was pulled into his adventure almost as much as Harry's (Keogh that is)! Strange how stories published in various different places come together to form chapters for a kick ass book! smile.gif
Thanks Deano!! smile.gif
Now I want the second one! Can it be found in stores across the way there? Or would ebay or Amazon (B and N, Abe, etc. :D ) be my best bet?

N8, you might be able to get a copy on your side of the pond quite easily for "sorcery in shad". i managed to pick up the ganley HB for about $20 on abe. but im sure if youre not too fussed about format you can get a paperback from probably anywhere and cheaply.
they are hard to come by in the uk. OOP an all that.
(if you enjoyed the first one then, get your mitts on the second installment as there plenty more spoils and fun in it, to rival the first).

I kinda like the idea of the swap thing, although I'm not sure if KeoghCon is the place... there might not be time, unless pre-arranged between members... but if anyone has any better ideas, I'd love to hear them! I think if you like the George Underwood covers, then it's a must, although the original printing from 1977 (?) is quite good as are the Ganley edtions... personally for me ganley editions are best, but most expensive, but they are HC and that way they'll last (for me) a good few more years than the average paper back....
Still a good find as these days the Underwoods are harder and harder to come by:)

Alun Hood used to be fairly prolific - I've a couple of books with his cover art, the first Nec, Masques 2 (very similar to his nec cover) and a couple of others I can't remember without checking.
Aside from the first Necroscope and First UK run of Burrowers He also did the original covers for the Psychomech trilogy. There runs weren't exactly huge in numbers and if I'm right when the meade the switch to George's covers existing retail copies were recalled and re-jacketted.
What I'm trying to say (I've been up for 54 hours, so please forgive me!) is any of Brian's books with Alun Hood covers are something of a forgotten collector's item. If you have them treasure them - and if you don't want them give me a shout! tongue.gif

Ok, I know I am early on this.. at least for here in the US.. but have a request if I may :)
Would LOVE to have a UK version of the Brian Lumley Companion Book when it arrives.. of course as always signed by whomever can get it for me and if Brian can sign it ohhh all the more better!
The catch... if any of my favorite UK people decide to take on this quest, conditions are that they let me know how much it will be to first buy the book, possible send, bring, etc the book to The Master for a signing (can be anytime too, if it is at the KeoghCon..then I would just love for everyone to sign it!!! And I mean Brian, Silky, and all Lumlians! And I know there is room for all that! If at a regular booksigning, then just as good!), adding the cost of having it signed (if sent by post to Brian for a signing request, etc), taken, whatever) as well as the final shipping costs to me.
I know in the past, books have been traded, given as gifts, etc, but this one I will definately be demanding to pay for myself (No exceptions... lol, you know who you are!! :-Þ). Yes I could just preorder a US copy or wait until it comes to a bookstore nearest me.. but to me, getting books from friends mean so much more to me. :)
This message will self-destruct in 376,999 seconds...
erm.. was getting into it :)
Anyone interested.. let me know here, by my e-mail or ICQ.. although the former two would be better to get in touch with me.

It's a real shame that the Companion isn't released by KeoghCon, otherwise some of the other contributors would be able to add their scrawls, but as most of them are friends of yours Ema, I'm sure we can sort out some kind of signing thing, one way or another!

Argh, lol, took me forever to find this thread, couldn't remember that it was 'Wants' and not 'Wish'!
Anyhoo.. I am looking for copies of the Vampire World Trilogy as I gave my copies to George to have & read..lol, he also read 3, 4 & 5 of the series while I was at work! So, after re-converting him, thought it would be good to let him have mine.. the drawback is.. I cannot find them to replenish my collection!
Note: I don't order online, which I know would be the easiest way.. but members who know me know that I would much rather get the books from friends instead!
So.. if any of you have an extra set, or one of the three that you would be willing to part with.. please send me an e-mail with info on price (including shipping!) and whatnot.
Thanks! Oh, and another note.. all the books I have I read.. I don't keep them looking pretty, so the looks, versions or editions make no matter to me. They will always be read numerous times. I don't care one flip on what the outside looks like.. just so that I can read and enjoy them!
:) Can just imagine some of you die-hard collectors just cringing at the thought of me removing dust jackets so it doesn't interfere with my way of reading books! lol They get in the way!

I'm not looking for books or novels, but for uncollected short stories. Basically anything that hasn't been in a collection by Lumley. I have everything from The Caller of the Black, to Dagon's Bell and Other Discords to Beneath the Moors and Darker Places. But there are a good handful of uncollected stories. Such as The Kiss of Bugg-Shash, The Man Who Saw No Spiders, Spaghetti and Mandraki to name a few. I honestly feel that Lumley could do with one or two more collections. Or perhaps even 3 or so volumes of an Omnibus collecting all short stories.
Anyway, if anyone has any uncollected short stories in Weirdbook, Etchings & Odysseys, etc. I'm looking to buy.
