Hi Nathan,
We stole our copy of SOAD in Canada, so I have only had a chance to listen to the first two tracks (in the car, on the way to a chinky take away) but it sounds Okay. We bought a couple of CD's on our hol's, it's so much cheaper over there. :D

Bit quiet on the gig front so far this year. Went to see Bryan Ferry last Monday. He was at his lounge lizard best and always plays some class Roxy Music tunes in his set.

Going to see Lou Reed in May and wanted to see The Coral next month, however their tickets sold out pretty quick. Hopefully, when they release their second CD, they'll play in larger venues.

Got a few gigs lined up in the next coupla months... Elektrofest headlined by top German bleepers Covenant (and for some reason, Siobhan Fahey :( ), then a week later is the Whitby Goth Weekend. Gotta feel sorry for the people of Whitby... ordinary seaside town most the year, but twice a year is invaded by a plethora of assorted freaks! Then early May I'm celebrating the return of Katscan to London, yay!

But apologies to Deano and Mazrah... won't be able to go out to play at the end of the month, as we're not in London that weekend (been double booked, doh)

By the way, any ideas of the collective noun for Goths? A sadness of Goths? A calamity? oh dear...

hey guys... i've been wanted to do a mass playlist for a while, and now I have the chance... so far only 13 hours worth of music in that... but it's getting ever bigger as I copy my music CDs to the computer...

Ok so that's 20 albums at 13 hours... I have somewhere between 300-350 cds... that would be.... calculating..... 227.5 hours... that's a lot of music... it's almost 10 days worth with out a break... what a real joy:)

On the other side I bought the new Linkin' Park album today, listening to it now... not bad so far as I'd heard mixed reviews. I was going to buy the new cardigans album, but saw it too late :( I guess that'll be next on the hit list...

Planning to buy (in the next 2 months) the new Blur (Think Tank), the new Stereophonics (You Gotta Go There to Come Back), and possibly the new Metallica album, although that does depend on what I hear from real people and not reviews... I haven't bought a Metallica album since the black one, which I for one was disapointed with.

wow I've written an essay!

I really like Troublegum though, could be because I didn't hear any of their earlier stuff before or because I encouraged Andy's old band to cover Knives and he did the whispering at the begining of the song, he scared some girl in the audience and remembering the look on her face alway makes me laugh!

Evanescence? From what I've heard of them (which isn't very much... OK, one song!), they sound like a metal band that've been smacked with the Goth stick a coupla times. I've heard worse, but not really my thang.

OK, so being the new guy I will just jump right into this thread. Has anyone listened to "Tito and the Tarantulas"? They have done soundtracks for a bunch of movies (Dusk til Dawn, Desparado...)

They are kind of a trippy Tex-mex blues band. Very cool. The CD is hard to find but worth it.

Also, I would have to say Tool(saw them live about a month ago and they put on a great show) and The White Stripes are getting worn out in my player.

Listening to Magic & Medicine, the new CD by The Coral. Fan-bloody-tastic.

GG - Sid Vicious was a joke. Glen Matlock was by far the better bassist in The Pistols. I could play better than Sid a week after buying my first bass back in 89.

In the heady punk days of 77, Sid got battered and smacked on the head with a bottle by Paul Weller after slagging of The Jam. If Sid would've gone up against Bruce Foxton or Rick Buckler, he would've got wasted.

The only problem with the song My Way is that the song publishers opted for lyrics written by Paul Anka and not a young up and coming songwriter at the time called David Bowie.

fear of the dark, decidedly dodgy iron maiden album, but not quite as bad as the one that precedes it... my favourite Iron Maiden album has to be a toss up between:

hmmm metallica, I'd love to see them live one day, but not any time soon as I'm broke :(

I've been getting into Depeche mode lately, never really liked them before until now,

Ooooh, huge Depeche fan... been a fan since I was 9! Songs of Faith and Devotion is my favourite album, ends up on the stereo pretty much once a week! Saw them live on the tour of that album, supported by Sisters of Mercy, which was such a cool gig!

"For some there are no choices"

No more will to live, I see the world fade
No more hope inside, my life means nothing anyway
Just shades of gray, I slip away again

Feed me from the heart of your denial
The velvet sleep is conviction only fools know
Dry your own eyes, I can't sympathize
Plague your own dreams, I won't be following

Free me from this sphere of confusion
These tears of dust are the tears from one who knows why
Dry your own eyes, I can't sympathize
Plague your own dreams, I won't be falling

Fly beyond the dreaming, fly beyond our being
Turn and face the mirror, the answers come, clear as glass

Fly beyond the dreaming, fly beyond our being
Turn and face the mirror, the answers come, clear as glass

I still feel you now, you are the falling rain
The voice that stills the pain, I am the lover gone insane
I must be strong, for love burns ever long

yay!

Oh, I've been listening to the Donnie Darko soundtrack.. not bad...

I've been put through the Alex Parks album, which I have to say isn't half bad, she has a great voice, but she should have had more of her own stuff on the album. A tad mainstream, but not bad none-the-less.

Can't stop listening to System Of A Down at the moment. I bought all thier albums after seeing them at Reading on TV. Slayer, meets Armenian folk, meets Zappa. Serj Tankian is a singularly talented vocalist. Been a while since I went completely loopy on one band. Favourite track. Toxicity. How do you own disorder?

Toxicity is a great album... I keep getting told that the the third one is better... I'm not sure... although Jetpilot is a fantastic song smile.gif

Favourite song? Psycho.

Were you at reading? or was ti on TV??? SOAD were mad at reading... as were the crowd if I recall..

SOAD were without a doubt me & mazrah's favourite band and performance at Reading, they were awesome.

IMHO the first album is the best followed closely by the 2nd then 3rd, but that dosen't mean I prefer it, they all have great tracks on them.

At the moment I am listening to the Darkness, after seeing them for the 3rd time last Friday at the Academy in Brixton..They were Rock-tastic ;)

Yeah Jetpilot was going to be my favourite too. It's rare but I like virtually everything they've done. Steal this album is a collection of unreleased stuff, but it contains Streamline which has fantastic vocal work. It's always nice to find a new band which excites yer senses. I must start gigging again. Time and work permitting.

Went to a fantastic gig on Sunday, a Swedish EBM band called S.P.O.C.K., and yup, they are total Trekkies, which is kinda geeky, but they are one of the funniest bands to see live... the singer did a striptease, and one of the keyboard players gave us a rendition of 'Don't Be Cruel'. So I've been listening to "Never Trust a Klingon" and "Dr McCoy" all week!

Window licker is fantastically funny, especially if you watch the uncensored 10 minute version. Bootylicious women with hideous prosthetic faces. A dark and funny take on gangster rap videos. Each video is very different in tone though.

The thing that is cool about The Darkness, in my humble opinion that is, is that they are total camp but they are also good at what they do. If they sucked as musicians/songwriters they couldn't pull the camp thing off like they do.

My wife thinks I have lost my marbles but I had her singing "I beleive in a thing called Love" yesterday and she didn't even realize it until I gently pointed it out to her..so I think they are winning her over as well.

My GF, thinks that most of the music I listen is crap, but since I've been playing the bass, she's been humming loads of stuff by metallica and iron maiden... now she'll even listent to them in the car, and sings along (with her own lyrics) to Master of Puppets - which is cool smile.gif

Ahhh Tops my man, I am also a Bass Player and to share a story of how I lured my then GF (now wife) to the dark side, after we had been dating for about a year and I had been trying to broaden her taste in music, one day at lunch, out of the blue she is singing Metallica's "For Whom the bell tolls"(this from a big Country fan, who was newly exposed to other types of music) I knew then I had created/found my future.

And then when she bought me a SWR Bassic Black combo amp for Christmas one year I was sold. I know, I know, I am a equipment whore.

I must be in the minority as I saw SOAD live last year and I thought they really blew. Horrible sound, sloppy show. I had been a big fan but that kind of put me off of them.
