just thought I would start music 2006 topic (a day early I know).
The spinner topic is now many pages long, so a nice and shiny new one for the new year would be nice.
What have I been listening too, not sure, but was talking to my dad this morning, and think I might listen to S&M by Metallica on my drive down the country. Good thing I have an ipod, means if I get bored or want a change, I can smile.gif

Newest atm is this: http://www.hollywoodrecords.go.com/killerqueen/
Constantine Maroulis did a fantastic job on his rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Of course there will never be another Freddie.. but this comes very acceptably close!

just heard metallica are back in the studio smile.gif
new basist, and aparently helping write the music and the songs... I'm wishing for Cliff like inspiration, but I have my doubts. Lets hope it's the best album since (at the very least) the black one.

CD wise, looking forward to the new Mesh, Panzer AG and Covenant albums.
Starting my musical jaunts earlier than usual this year... in February I'm off to Berlin and Leipzig to see Rotersand (my fave band!) supporting Covenant. Then the next planned event is the Wave Gotik Treffen festival in Leipzig (about 170 bands over 4 days). Then there's InFest in Bradford (August), and my special little bird tells me that Rotersand will be playing there too. Possibly doing the M'era Luna festival in Hanover too, depending on bands; ie, if Rotersand play! Me, stalker, noooooo!

I like most forms of music, save the drivel they call country music nowadays. Don't much care for rap or hip-hop, either.
Out of my normal genre (metal), but I've been rather enjoying the Gorillaz lately. Interesting mix of sounds and rhythms.
Micheal Buble' is a no-fail favorite of mine when the mood calls for something non-aggressive. He's a young Canadian "crooner" that does a lot of lounge jazz covers from the 50's. Think Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc.
I never leave the house without some White Zombie and Ministry, though.

ooho.. dunno, they any good?
currently listening to the Kerrang! remaster of Master of Puppets, only this time as it's 20 years on, they got a load of new bands to rerecord the songs... some good some awful.. .not bad though... I think my chem romance might be on it.

There's an old punk/metal/grindcore band called Axegrinder whose album is being re-released, and everyone should buy it! OK, so I'm married to the guitarist and will receive lotsa dosh in royalties! Apologies for the blatent plug, mwah-ha-ha-haaaaaaaaa!
But seriously, if anyone is interested, they've been likened to Voivod and early Fear Factory. There's some free tracks on www.axegrinder.co.uk (http://www.axegrinder.co.uk)
A Japanese tour has been suggested by the record company... but I've already bagsied the position of Chief Plectrum Roadie!
Personally music wise, I can't stop listening to Ayria, a Canadian band whose singer has the most amazing voice (and she's a bit cute!).

I've been done giving Metallica chances for years. Hell, even "The Black Album" seems decent, now that I've been subjected to subsequent pathetic efforts...
Damage Plan has one of the best complete albums I've ever heard, and "Tempo of the Damned" by Exodus is a nice breath of classic thrash, though its too-quick follow-up ("Lessons in Violence") sucks hard.
I've also gotten into Breaking Benjamin, Hurt, Flyleaf, and Lamb of God.
And of course the ever-present godfather of thrash, Slayer, is working on yet another masterpiece. They're working with Rick Reuben, but I don't think even he will be able to commercialize them. Plus, singing lessons wouldn't help Tom anyway...
Recent disappointments have been Disturbed, Godsmack, Rob Zombie, and System of a Down.

Rob Zombie - disappointment?? What are you talking about I'm listening to him right now!

Nate, I feel your rant is unfounded as
1, it's not a new album, it was recorded in 1986, so way before they got sh*t
2, it's not actually metallica anyway.
as for SOAD, you really need to give it a chance. it's (they are) really good. I didn't like it at first - now I love it!!

Well I didn't intend to sound like I was ranting, just never giving them another chance.
But it was recorded in '86? I might check that out... I was referring to your comment about them being back in the studio. That's the one I won't be buying.
As for SOAD, they're just going over-the-top with the strange noises and whatnot. It was cool for the first two albums but it's gotten irritating. Fortunately for you, the guys at work are giving it chance after chance after chance... so chances are I'll like it eventually. Or be totally sick of it by the end of next week!
Rob Zombie just lost his "heavy". That Foxy Foxy song makes me think of kittens and butterflys... not my cup of tea.

I'm still confused by you nate... surely you are fecking with me??? being an old school metallica fan, you must be aware of Master of Puppets? All i was talking about was a covers album by todays new boys... (I quite like trivium)
As for the new stuff... one more album as I managed to completely miss the dross that appears to be Load (o'shite) and Reload (wi'shite) smile.gif I've heard good things about the new stuff.. well, I've heard they are writing quickly, and that can't be a bad thing.. also the fact the new bassist plays like Cliff is a godsend ;)

I've heard that too Tops, also they have a new producer so maybe that change will be a good one?
I hope so anyway and I'm not going to pre-judge them on their other stuff, I'll wait till it comes out.
Also I still think that Rob has plenty of heavy still in him, call me the optomist if you will but I stand by these guys!

this one is for nate:)
Just back from the download festival in donnington. Metallica were headlining. The good news is they only played one song from the last 3 albums. The even better news is, they played the complete master of puppets album in full, and in order. Possibly the best gig I have ever been to, ever.
Also saw trivium, who are a metal cliche - didn't think they were before, but anyone who scream cirlce pit deserve to have piles or something.
The other good thing about the day I went to was Mondo Generator:) I love that band:) Most entertaining:)
Over and out Tops

Grr, not jelous much! I would have loved to go to Download but really couldn't afford it and to rub salt in the wound my brother is there so he'll be gloating when he gets back!
Glad you enjoyed it, sounds like it was fantastic

next weekend, I'm seeing queens of the stoneage and foo fighters smile.gif
Then I am all gigged out until reading festival...
I will be very tired when all this is over!

Tell me about gigged out... I'm still recovering from the Wave Gotik Treffen festival in Leipzig, where I managed to see 17 out of 176 bands! But that was more than enough, especially when you're spending time going from venue to venue around the city (wearing 5" platform shoes!)
I think I'm gig-free until the M'era Luna festival in Hildesheim mid August, then InFest (Bradford) in late August, which I'm hoping at least one or two of you might be coming along to!

yikes! i'd be a plump tasty morsel compared to you guys! I listen to sade, pure moods, loreena mc kennitt, etc. I have an ozzy greatest hits cd, two savatage cd's and one manowar cd (which i lost) and that's the catalogue of my metal music library. OH, and one dreamtheater cd...*shrug* So proud of my teeny world...Lol

The way the cash flow isn't flowing at the moment it's unlikely I'll be able to make it this time. But if you want to meet up (if you have the time and energy!) while you're in the area...
Amarfa, there's nothing wrong with Ozzy, most of the other guys I've never heard of but each to their own, and to be truthful I don't know half the guys that GG's into either! (But I do like what I've heard so far)

Silver, seems like a waste for me to be in WY, and not to meet up with you! And I'm sure the other Lumlian in attendance will be around too, unless InFest breaks him, mwah-hah-hah-hahhhhh!

It might well break me actually... I just bought a pair of platform boots higher than I've ever had before! Twisted ankles ahoy!
