I've been reading lumley for a while now. It started with 'house of doors' and from that I went on to the necroscope saga. And to think...i JUST found this site! I never thought to plug it in to the browser before. So Hi, i'm a newbie.
I'm looking to update my books. I love the necroscope saga and would like to have the books around for a while, so I'm
looking to buy hardback copies. They don't have to be 1st edition or anything special, as long as they're the US printing (art) and are in good shape, I'd be willing to buy them. I found them on amazon and bn but I don't have the money to spend upwards of $25 a piece. If anyone has any them lying around and would like to sell them, or has any leads on a resource I could use to track them down, please let me know!
Another question, which I'm sure has been addressed before, is about the artwork available for purchase. Right now it says that they are only available for purchase as a set, and that set is $80.00. Wow. I LOVE the artwork. And there are a few prints I would love to buy...but as you could already imagine, I can't afford the whole set. So my question is this: does anyone forsee (?) the opportunity to purchase individual prints in the future?
Thanks for your time...

I currently have the first four necroscope books, (3 U.S. editions and the one Necro 4 U.K. edition).
I have a question though. I have seen the Lost Years and Vampire World sets on HC, but has Necro 5 ever been released on Hardcover?

SHAITHIS @ROCKETMAIL.COM- Necro 4 has only been released in hardcover in that english edition. It is supposed to come out in HC in a U.S. edition sometime later, then eventually Necro 5 will come out in hardcover. The original Necro series 1-5 was only published in paperback. But because of the popularity TOR has been releasing them in hardcover. It is just been a slow process. Hopefully it wont be too much longer.

"ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
that explains a lot. like why it's so hard to find them. i think the only hardcover us printing i've run across was the first. hmmm. well, the search is still on. i've only got 1,3,4,5 left to get. the others are tucked away.
on the look out...

Peter- Any insight as to why the second book is so hard to find in hardback? I've checked some of the bookstores, auctions and link from this website and have yet to find a copy. As a matter of fact I asked Silky which books she had in 1st edition Hardbacks (months ago) and this was the only on she didn't have.
By the way... she has an even more limited supply of 1st ed. Hardbacks right now... check with her for specifics.

jdovie-Does that mean you have the Necroscope II in hardback? Where did you get it? Are there more?

Incase you haven't looked yet you can try these places.
http://www.bibliofind.com/
http://www.abebooks.com/
These search through a bunch of used books stores. The abebooks one will even let you pick to only search for hardbacks if you click on the search tab and then goto bindings.

MIKE C- More than likely the reason that Necroscope II is so hard to find in hardcover is because of the limited print run that it saw. When "The Source" came out, its print run was only 2000 books pretty small when thats supposed to supply all the Lumley fans in the world. As far as I know that is the same print run that Necro 2 and 1 saw.
I had the luck of working for a bookstore during the time the necroscope series was being published in hardcover by Tor. They are taking their time in putting them all out though. And when I say taking their time I mean it. The Necroscope 1 hardcover came out like 2 or 3 years ago. So I wouldn't expect them finishing it in any rush. Although if I'm right I think their about due to publish Necro 4 in Hardcover pretty soon. (Tor that is, Kinnel did a hardcover version of it in '91) Having worked for a bookstore I was able to see how many copies of a book that the publishers were going to print. (I still have friends that work there so I try to keep my hands on the pulse of the publishing world, it takes a lot of time and sometimes you miss things. thats where this site is so great, if your looking for news on when Lumley stuff is going to be published it will be here)
Anyways as I was saying I would look at the print run for certain books and it would depress me. For example when Stephen King has a new book coming out the print run is astronomical in the 100,000 ranges for each new book. Not to put down Stephen King he has those numbers because he is so well known, I even have a few of his books. And my brother is an avid fan. But when I would look at the print run for Lumleys books they would be much less (in the like 5000's ranges. First printing that is, after that runs out then they go to second, third and so on printings. Which is where I think Lumley does so well, word of mouth. The publishers do not ever advertise a new Lumley book, maybe if they did Lumley would be seen by a much wider audience, although who knows if they could appreciate his writing look at who the majority of them love reading (I will not name names but I think you all know the names of these authors) Which unfortunatly means some of the titles are much harder to get a hold of).
I will tell you why I think this is the case, I might be wrong its just the opinion I formed while working at the bookstore. Lumley is an English author, if you look at all the authors that are extremely well known here in the states, all of them live and work here in the states. For example King, Rice, or in other genres Grisham, Woods, Sheldon to name a few. All of them write here in the states. I think the publishing community here in the states is pretty closed circuted. When I have been abroad such as England, Russia, France, and Japan I have seen so many authors that you can't even find on a bookshelf here in the states that it is embarassing. Authors that are known all over the world except here in the states and when you say you haven't heard of their works people look at you and ask if you have been living under a rock. The fact that Brian has gained the popularity that he has is a testiment to how awesome a writer he is.
And I am glad that Tor has had the insight to acknoledge that talent and get his books published here in the states. I know that I have rattled on and I am sorry, it is just a sad state of affairs in the world of publishing in the states. I say this and know that it might only be my opinion and that I might be wrong, but if anyone travels abroad from the states, then go into a bookstore wherever you go and take a look around. I know from experience that you will find a much broader spectrum of world authors than you will ever find in a normal bookstore here in the states. Hopefully the internet will become the answer to this problem one day. Who knows?
I hope I have answered some questions and not bored anybody too much with this tirade.

lethal_menace- Hey thanks, but that is the same bookstore listed above... They don't have it any more. Oh well, this will probably be a lifetime quest of mine, (everyone should have one). It wouldn't be fun if it was easy to find everything.

From the horse's mouth, folks, these are the books we are currently in stock on in hardcover. Do not let anyone sell you a copy of any of these titles for more than cover price (and shipping if necessary). Your local bookstore should be able to order them for you.
We have hardcover stock on:
Necroscope ($23.95)
Vamphyri ($24.95)
The Source ($26.95)
We have a very few copies of Necroscope: Resurgence ($25.95) in stock in hardcover. (And one copy of THE LOST YEARS as I type this, but I expect that will disappear quickly, LOL.)
We have plenty of INVADERS ($25.95), of course.
We do plan to continue releasing the older Necroscope titles in hardcover, but alas, they do not sell as well as the new books, so we have a tendency to want to do Brian's more recent works in a more timely manner. (Bear in mind that we cannot _force_ a bookstore to stock more copies of a particular title or author. We can _encourage_ them to do so, with promotion, sales incentives, attractive packaging, gimmicks, displays, etc. But print runs are set by orders, and orders are set by stores and chains.)
The current plan is to do DEADSPEAK some time in 2001, and DEADSPAWN in either 2002 or 2003 depending on sales of DEADSPEAK.
Hope this helps . . .

Johno,
I tend to doubt that you can easily get a hardbound copy of either of the "Dead" books that would look like other hardcovers you own. While there are (or were--I haven't looked into this for some time) services that will bind an individual book for you, that book comes out the same size as the book you give them. So if you have a mass market paperback, you get a mass market-sized hardcover.
I suppose you could photocopy and enlarge the text to the larger size and have that bound, but I have a feeling it would be expensive by the time you were done.

True on both counts--but I know people who have done it.

Not a hope in hell. Publishing just doesn't work that way. It would cost the earth.
I'm more than a decade older than you, and I have trouble waiting myself. Think of it as an early 30th birthday present! :)
