It had been sitting on my bookshelf for maybe a decade, bought soon after I read Necroscope but never read. I had only ever read the first two Necroscope books, too.
The other night I was reinstalling Windows (wheee!) and needed something to pass the time while waiting around. Sitting by my elbow were Necroscopes 3 and 4. Off I went... Wow! The Source rocks, and would make one helluva stand-alone movie, even if (wash my mouth out) Harry Keogh was lifted out of it completely. Deadspeak wasn't as good, but was still a fun (if rather grim) read.
Stuck for something to read next, up came my poor, forgotten copy of Psychomech.
Damn! Great stuff! How has this book not been made into a film? Hollywood would probably want to turn Wyatt and Terri into the heroes of the piece and Garrison into the villain, but it would still rock hard.
The whole thing is so wonderfully visual and cinematic, especially the dream (and nightmare) sequences. I love it.
Still, I have one concern (spoiler warning)...
Where now? I know there are two more books to come, but, well, Garrison is essentially a god now. Where can the story really go? In my opinion, you cannot have true dramatic tension unless the protagonist can be in serious danger. He seems to have total control of matter, energy, time, space, and life itself - I doubt much could hurt him. I am having trouble imagining where the story could possibly go now.
Anyway, I will pick up Psychosphere and Psychamok very soon and find out for myself.
