According to Amazon's page, The Whisperer and Other Voices is now shipping - well ahead of the February release date...

Well - I was in my local book shop tonight and sure enough - there it was on the shelf. Almost three weeks ahead of schedule! Grab your copy today everyone!

Books routinely ship prior to official pub. dates. In the olden days, when stores didn't actually put stuff onto the shelves until the pub. date, the early release enabled independent and smaller bookstores, who purchased their books through jobbers, to put books on sale at the same time as chain/big stores, who ordered their books directly from the publisher. It would take an extra couple of weeks for the smaller stores to get their books because of the middlemen.

Nowadays everyone shelves stuff when they receive it. But the system is still built to take the middleman delay into account. So now some places can put books on sale at the same time copies are arriving at the publisher's home office, because their copies ship directly from the printer. But other stores which still have to go through jobbers may not be able to sell the same title for another week.

After I read this thread I barrel-assed down to the bookstore and it was there!! I'm so glad I didn't have to wait until summe for a new book from Lumley!

This is more for info that anything else. The Whisperer is also available in the UK... I bought a copy from Forbidden Planet on New Oxford Street in London yesterday.
