Wasn't sure where to stick this post as it can encompass anything lumley so I stuck it here as it seemed to be the most impartial place to put it.

Right what is your top five Lumley books ever???
Now this can be anything, it can include short stories compilation books or novels.

So will it be Necroscope all the way or will they not even make your hit list, maybe Khai is your favourite...???

Here's mine:

In at 5 it's Vampire world book 1: Blood Brothers
Down to 4 it's Lord of the worms (Titus Crow short story)
New at 3 The Ship of Dreams (What a book, it has everything from bare breasted chicks to arson petty theft and drunkenness...... Splendid )
Just shot in at No 2 it's Khai of ancient Khem
And at No 1 Well it can only be the daddy of all Lumley: Necroscope (the book that started me off on my collectable conquest of everything Lumley)

5. Khai of ancient Khem
4. Bloodwars
3. The Burrowers Beneath - my first taste of Lumley
2. Demogorgon
1. The Source

All good examples of The Master. As short story collections, I like Coven of Vampires and The Caller of the Black.... (sorry that was a cheat!!! grin.gif grin.gif )

OK, I don't know if you've noticed but I usually avoid this kind of thing, I can't make up my mind! But here goes, a little cheating and in no particular order:

Khai of Ancient Khem
The Last Aerie (or any of the Vampire World trilogy)
The Lost Years (either of them)
The Source/Deadspawn (I can't decide there, in fact I'm not sure I've made a decision anyway as I want to include the others, I love them so much!)
Ship of Dreams
Spawn of the Winds (or all of the Mythos Omnibus!)

I'm revolutionising the number system here, now 5 comes after 6 so I only have 5 there!

I really want to put a Psychomech in there, but the trouble is I can't decide which, or what to take out to make room!

I'm not going to play this game... yet. It's way too unfair. But if I could bind all the books into 5 volumes, then that'll be my answer. Can I do that?

That's kind of cheating there N8, it had to be stand alone books or stories, but as it's you and I like you I'll let you off

The Caller of the Black

Bit of a toughie this one. I'd be hard pressed to come up with a Top Twenty, even if Sir James Saville O.B.E. (Goodness gracious! jangle jangle) did the countdown.

had a chance to think:)
</font> Return of the Deep Ones (collection)</font> Coven of Vampires</font> Hero and Eldin (Could easily be one volume)</font> The Source</font> The Lost Years (remember my companion contribution mixed them up as one volume)</font>
That's a hard list to write down, and this could change... very easily! If I can't have Hero and Eldin as one volume, then I would replace it with Demogorgon!

Here goes...

Numbah 1. House of Doors, hands down.

Numbah 2. The Weird Wines of Naxis Niss...laughed my ass off over this one. Truly classic.

Numbah 3. Deadspawn...don't know why, it's just my fave of the series.

Numbah 4. Resurgence...thought this one far exceeded the first.

Numbah 5. Dreamland series...yeah, had to throw in one cheat!

Just five... impossible! But these are my early morning thoughts... could quite easily change by coffee-time (in 15 minutes!)

In no particular order

1. Khai of Khem
2. The Viaduct
3. Necroscope
4. Whole Tarra Khash series
5. The Man Who Photographed Beardsley

DC 1
December 11th, 2003, 03:32 PM
My top 5 are:

5. Complete Crow
4. The Viaduct
3. Khai
2. Necroscope
1. Bloodwars

Scourge
January 11th, 2004, 02:59 AM
Runner up: Deadspawn

5. Mad Moon of Dreams
4. House of Doors
3. Khai of Ancient Khem
2. Bloodwars
1. The Source

Although I really need to re-read the Titus Crow books, and I haven't read the Pycho- trilogy yet (waiting until I find -amok, which doesn't bode well since I went 3 years between finding two copies of -osphere, and one of -omech.)

i think you'll like the psycho's, they are fantastic (of course). i loved them. i must say that after reading demogorgon, it's a part of my top five. i'd have to put it at # 2 instead of the source.

I've only read 5 of his books so far, so I suppose that my list will have to be like this:

1. Necroscope
2. Deadspawn
3. The Source
4. Wampyrhi (or was it Wamphyri?)
5. Deadspeak

Heh heh Lagula.. good one there with the 'lists-o-three'!

Hmm, hard one myself but start from the order I first read his books and go from there...

1. House of Doors (given to me by a friend to read whilst I was visiting a friend in the hospital)

2. Demogorgon (my first 'bought' book)

3. All the books I got from fellow Lumlians as gifts :)

4. Khai of Ancient Khem

5. Hmm hard put between Titus Crow & Dreamland series.. so take your pick!
