What does everyones partner/friends think of Mr. Lumleys books, Necroscope saga in particular.

I introduced it to my wife who couldn't understand why I go on about it. Like me she is not usually a horror fan but unlike me she couldn't get into the books at all. I must admit though, when our son was born she had no objections when I chose to name him Harry.

Also, I have not met a single person who has read any of BL's books. When I mention it to them they give me blank looks.

I've had the sme problem... mention BL to anyone and they have no idea who your on about...

But all I do is loan them a book, and before long they are hunting the rest out at a library or in the friendly local book shop.

As for partners - a couple haven't understood why I have shelves filled with BL's books, others just think that reading is a poor substitute for more physical pastimes... life is so hard! http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/cool.gif

My wife got half way through the 4th book but lost interest in it. She understands why I like the book but does not like all the history of the Vampires and how they came to be. She thought it was a bit long winded. Hell thats part of the best words written in my opinion.

I love the old folklore and these books reminded me when I was a kid, and those cheesey (by todays definitions) B movies about vampires that were suspenseful but not very bloody and they and they had all the smog going all over the ground. I thought those were the coolest.

Very few of my friends are interested in reading at all (so none of them seem interested in reading a story that is going to go on for 13 books), but I recieved an e-mail from a visitor to my website and she gave Necroscope a try on my suggestion... and actually liked it.

Well, seeing as how I have no partners, that context is null and void ~chuckles~ .. though I have introduced the series to my mom, and she simply loved it. Hell, she's the one that got me to reading horror books in the first place ~L~

As for friends, most of mine aren't all that interested, though I have gotten quite a few of my online role playing pals to read the books.... they found my Wamphyri characters far to intriuing, and just had to read the novels they were inspired from...

My hubby isn't a horror fan at all, he's a sci-fi geek (sorry honey!), but he's also an avid reader, so he quite understands my passion for Mr Lumley's writing. I did get him to read 'House of Doors (2nd visit)' which he really enoyed but (like myself) wishes he could read the first one.

Also, he adores the Wamphyri artwork of Paul S. that I bought (thanx again Silky!), being almost as dodgy a goth as me!

GG ! dont call your hubby a geek for liking Sci-fi (its great)And BL sometimes isnt that far from Sci-fi...

My girlfriend read Necroscope,(after much hyping by me i suppose) but couldnt see the attraction.

She thinks i'm nuts...but knows that these books keep me quiet...

Well, like Scarlet I have no partner...something that will have to change soon!...
But when I first started reading BL my girlfriend at the time was into Anne Rice. I forgave her. I have loaned her the first 3 books in Necro series, and she's getting there.
But my most recent Ex.. just wasn't a reader. Maybe that was why it never worked between us?

NO! She was a self centred bitch, that's why it never worked.

I think the rest of my close friends are iliterate (he says not knowing how to spell half the words he uses). Show them a book and they either burn it or complain that there are no pics of naked women.

What a lonely life...

I have lent Necroscope to about 5 or 6 people, and none of them have liked it. The only people I know who do like Brian are my Moms brothers, but they don't read any of Brians books other than Necroscope 1-5.

Goth, you can order House of doors from Amazon thats where I got my copy from.

Funny thing that.... I was talking to one of my friends and it turned out that we both liked Brian Lumley.... funny really as it seemed to gel the friendship http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

My female companion can't understnad my interest in Bri's work... she thinks it's just a phase, it's lasted 10 years so far... I keep trying to get her to read it, but she wants to read some namby-pamby stories about "real-women"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA it'll drive me mad in the end!

My fiance gets an A for effort. He tried, but he was grossed out by the first Necromancer scene with Dragosani. It is gruesome. He quit after that, I told him it is probably for the best, because the gross stuff doesn't go away. But he totally respects my little obsession with The Necroscope books, and this web page.

My friends never believed me when i told them that a book can be scarier than dawn of the dead (movie) or another movie, but once i told them about that necrophiliac with the sharp pipe in deadspawn, they believed me, and they were frightened.

hmm, My Ex was jealous of my books, got rid of him :-> Anyhoo, I have been lucky in my life to have found one or two who have the same interests.

As for the companions I have now? Well, the flying cats LOVE Brian's books, of course I could also be reading "How to skin a cat in 10 easy ways" and they would also love the book. Must be the rubbing thing...
