Pictures were taken. Alcohol was drunk. Cigerettes were smoked. Cafe staff were abused. Jokes were told. 'Woodford' was said at least one hundred times. Books and the messageboard were discussed. Vats were waxed, and floppy bits were fiddled with.
It was definately a fun afternoon and the modest turn out worked in favour of everyone getting to know each other.

One does wonder just what kind of people make up this small community. Yesterday I saw many traits in the others that I've seen in long time friends. I guess it takes a particular kind of person to appreciate Lumley to the extent of being in love with his work, seek out his web-site, hang around on this messageboard, and travel the length of England to meet with strangers.
I don't think we were strangers after the first hour or so though, and I'm looking forward to the next meeting which hopefully will be a whole weekend long.
Was this LumleyCon 1? Maybe. Hey, it's not like we dressed up as vampires or anything... er except GothGirl. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/wink.gif

Started off in Henry's. Toddled down to Cafe Uno. Dropped off Goth Girl at Picc Station.
Walked round town for a bit then went down Wilmslow Rd to Revolution in Fallowfield.
Headed back into town to a Tapas Bar near John Dalton college then staggered off home worse for wear.

'Oi'!!!

This is the first opportunity that I've had since I got back to tell you all that I had a fantastic time at our get together. The whole day had a great atmosphere of generosity and fun, and it was a real insight to meet old/new friends and get to know them a whole lot better!! The only real let down was that it really didn't go on for long enough. We need to make it at least a day and a full evening, if not longer, with the full crew next time.

Oh, btw Don't try to order any fancy coffee, go to the toilet (once or twice) or try to call for a waiter in a heavy N.E. regional accent whilst in Manchester. It seems to lead to paranoia. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/wink.gif

For those who couldn't make it, the conversations were as varied as the personalities of the wonderful people met, everyone had something really valuable to contribute, and lots of laughs were had. I really have to agree with Potem'P'kin when he says that the guys had a lot of traits in common with other friends I have. Perhaps it's a 'field of interest' thing, perhaps I've just got great taste in the people I associate with (I can dream!) but it was really nice to see and be a part of.

So, I just thought I'd take the opportunity to thank everyone who turned up for being 'so cool'. I just knew you guys would not disappoint!

Barry Manilow (sp?) at 'Tapas Tapas'. I can't believe I sang along, nevermind 'grooving'!!

Jason of Kh(phelg)em!! One (or several dozen) for the road, mate?? Did you manage to get up early on Sunday?
