Fruiting Bodies 1st Edition???

Rumor has it[according to Shadeo via Brian himself] that Fruiting Bodies was released,sold out,and rereleased.Does anyone have any information on this? I have seen hard cover editions with different ISBN.

According to memory (which is sketchy at best) Fruiting Bodies was first published in January '93 by ROC, an imprint of Penguin, in paperback with a cover from George Underwood. In Febuary of the same year TOR released a hard-cover edition with the Bob Eggleton Cover which was only printed in paperback in April '96.

Hard-cover editions will always carry different ISBNs to soft-covers. Second, third, fourth, etc printings (as previous ones sell out) will carry the same ISBN as they are the same book. ISBNs also remain the same as covers sometimes change and for small updates. The ISBN will only change if the book changes publisher, has major updates and alterations which substantially change the contents or are released in seperate editions - eg lettered/numbered editions often carry different ISBNs to mass-markets.

These rules aren't hard-and-fast and are subject to some flexibility.

In addition if you are looking for an investment then soft/hard-cover, country of release etc shouldn't concern you - only the numbers... A first edition of Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix won't ever be worth much as it had a print run in the millions... A first edition of The Philosopher's Stone on the other hand is a very rare item as (I believe) that elusive first edition only had a three figure print-run...
