On the old message board I stayed away from the should there be a movie or not topic but I'll say now that I don't think there should be, too many good books have been turned into shitty films and I think the Necroscope would be another casualty of the film industry. I think reading the books and seeing them in your mind is far better than somebody else showing their interpretation of the story.

Yes you are right but what about all those people who do not like to read but love the movies, they are lost to the Necroscope without this outlet, I for one strongly agree with you but I also agree that there are those that will never get to experience the truest form of vampires without the movie option.

As long as the filmakers work with Brian, they can achieve a visual enactment of what Brian first imagined.. This worked for 2001 - with Kubrick working alongside Arthur C Clarke, and produced an excellent film (in visual terms - which both parties were ultimatly happy with.) Compare this with 2010, which Clarke had minimal involvement, and you end up with a hodgepodge storyline, not even cutting close to the original..

Without Brian's knowledge and influence the show would be destroyed, he would need to have full creative, and artistical access, no one else could replace his visions, especially in the world of ripoffs he would need to be involved in the maximum way posssible.

I think that if a movie/movies are made, then a Star Wars scenario would be the best approach, where the Vampire World trilogy were produced first, as they would make better films than the Necroscope series, the first book especially, since it isn't a patch!!

How would anyone react to the length of time between books if Mr Lumley too the time to stop writing and focused all of his attention on making a movie

Why not let someone who isn't an established director/producer do the film. Maybe someone who isn't tied to the big Hollywood companies. If Titanic could do that good in the theatres (and let's face it folks, everyone knew how that movie was gonna end), then the Necroscope would be a teriffic. And with what their doing with special effects now....wow Shaithan in real (well kinda) life. Yep, i'd go see it. More than once.

OK...ok...ok....I agree with all of you, but I still would love to see the Necroscope world on film. If Brian is involved they won't be bad. They may not be as in depth cuz there is only so much space in a 2 hour movie. If the movies are made and they happen to turn out disappointing, we'll all gripe and complain then we'll get over it and go out and buy all the copies we can get our hands on and watch them over and over again and realize they really aren't that bad!!

I understand that the translation of any novel to the big screen always has its casualties... but two major efforts are underway now - let's see how they go before we dismiss the efforts out of hand...

I say the first series should be the Dream lands Series. This would be the easiest series since they have a lot of the special effects from Hercules, Sinbad and the multitude of others.
Let me explain.. Have any of you seen the three makes of Watchers by Dean Koontz?? Not one of them resembles the book. Very bad let down for the avid book reader. He has had a couple of other movies and as each one grew they got better and closer to the the book. The last one was phantoms and that was close to being the best that resembled the book.
It seems the first book from an author turned into a movie gets butchered pretty good. Even Kings work was originally bad compared to his books. But as they got notice they went more along the story line of the book itself.
I would love nothing more than to see a Necroscope Series but the envisioning of the movie must be to the book and through BL eyes and not some Hollywood fat cats interpretation. I would rather wait until he gets the new series done and then put a project like this together. If he's interested I've got some ideas.

Okay, younguns. Now I am a big japanimation fan myself with a collection of over 50 of them. Although, I believe that this would be the easiest fastest and mayhaps even the cheapest way to go, I am a fan of Brian Lumley's Art and I use that term Art. What makes Necroscope what it is is the realism oh yes I know it's fiction but there is no magical cross and such keepin a wamp from his appetizers none of that mess... and I loathe to see an out of proportioned Wamp with long skinny legs and puffed up body with large cute bubble eyes and blue hair... sorry this may due for Pokemon but not my Wamphyri
