After watching Vampire$ as , a previous poster had noted took a work of art by mr steakly and turned it quite frankly into a b grade movie , that i thought was the best that could be done , regarding the broad spectrum audience that a movie has to attract to make it financially viable.

To adhere to the spirit of the book , and this regards the whole genre , it would have to be one part porno movie , part slasher and have the feel that silence of the lambs had . In short i believe it to be short of impossible to do with live acting , maybe the synthian actors in the cgi world will make this possible , but for now , only anime could carry out the true feel for the whole series .

Will a movie ever get made , i frankly doubt it . The population at large can be tracked by demographics and i believe that no film maker would touch a marginally rewarding project like this . Its been what 6 years since ann rices interview with a vampire came out and not one sequel is in the works .
Mind you i thought that it was visually stunning and tom cruise was okay , i did think it was a disjointed take on the series , and would have prefered the talamasca.

But i have digressed , if you agree or disagree , then i have had my say

Yet another movie from the man that brought you Interview with a Vampire and The Crying Game...

Neil Jordan is a good director, but I really don't think that he could handle the blood and snot required for a Necroscope movie. And I can do without the OTT of Quinten Tarentino as well...

But the movie won't get made as long as there are Californians (at heart) in Hollywood.

Oh, not the Warshawski bros either...

Well , now that you mentioned it , i went over it in my mind, and figured that vampire movies have always since 1928 with nostrafu(spelling) been financially viable , with the exception of a few dogs , but nobody's perfect.

I think that what i had in mind , was that to litteraly take the scenes from a book and keep it gospel , then the budget of any given movie would be astronomical.

The success of previous movies, also had a great deal to do with the suspension of disbelief , the vampire goes down on the girls neck , and you see the gore splash on the wall , but nothing really visual, only recently has hollywood started to splash some of the special effects money on realistic scenes.

But , only time will tell

Like you say, a Gospel interpretation of the book will not be finacially viable...

And it probably wouldn't translate well, there are reasons that movies don't stay true to books...

A 500 page novel to a 100 paged, wide margined, large printed, 2/3 hour script?

Never gonna happen...

Nosferatu...

There's been vampire gamesfor years, I had one for my Archimedes/Acorn, and 1 for my Spectrum & one for my Atari STe!

It's a shame when you've enjoyed a book or series of books so much that your equally afraid of a movie not being made and a movie being made but being a hack job!
With so many many chapters how do they make a 90-120 minute movie to process for the regular folks but give the true fans a feeling of scope or coverage. The fans scream sequels will take care of that but sequels are as guarenteed as the Boston Red Sox making the world series. I think any movie made would have to focus on the Vampire world as that portion to me is by far the most imaginitive and fufilling. The Source or the Vampire world trilogy might be the best candidates with use of the first necroscope book as an intro to Harry. Also is any American movie maker, if chosen, going to have the power or balls to make it as visceral and downright horrific, pornographic and unearthly as the books take you? Any director can make it gory but who would give it style, atmosphere? Who knows. Anime or CGI might be the only way. It seems these days not only do animated films have more visual ability they actually have better stories and character development. In live action films all you hear about is how it took seven weeks to generate 45 seconds od CGI. If only they would spend that same kind of time on the script and characters. Sorry if I depress. Hey! At least we have the kick ass books that have blown our minds and started all this hooplah! Tear Down The Mountains and may lepers kiss your Leech.

I dont see a way that this movie could be made, even though i would be the first one in line to see it. but live action ?????? NO.COULDNT PULL IT OFF. to much sex and violence to put out for main stream. and with out the sex and violence the movie wouldnt portray the books to there full advantage.Anime??? NO. to me these books, when i read them, the characters are real, not a cartoon..But either way i still want to see it happen, but im scared that if it does happen, it will some how take away from the books i have come to love.....
The sixth sense? oh yes it totally reminded me of Harry, and i loved the movie...

Devataki there is no such thing as too much sex and violence... but I see what you mean.

I don't think a live action movie would do the books justice. Like everyone else is saying, there's just too much sex and violence. The censors would have a field day with it. Even a TV series would'nt work because you really need the violence to understand the world of the Wamphri. As far as a place to start with a movie, you would need at least 10 or 12 two and a half to 3 hour movies just to get the whole story. And you can't really start in the middle anywhere bcause you need to know where Harry and E-Branch came from in order to understand the whole story. But never the less I would welcome any type of visual stimulation as long as it doesn't take away from Brian's storytelling.

You may find it's not that complicated....It should be poss to make a film for each book in the VW series.
Not all of the sex and violence has to be seen, only the start and aftermath of said scene, I think screams and sound effects should give the viewers imagination something to do.
As for the Necroscope series. A 5-10 min intro should be able to fill in the vital areas. Something like in Conan The Barbarian. This will also give a good platform for future films on the Necro series.

An animated cartoon would be too hokey for this book. A lot of people who don't have time to sit and read would love this story. I agree that it should be made enjoyable to the common viewer, and much should be left to the imagination, because it could encourage a person to pick the book up and read it. Everytime I go to the movies I expect to see an advertisement for a "Necroscope" Movie. I can't wait. With computer special effects they could blow other vampire movies out of the water.

With all the special effects these days you wouldn't need elaborate costumes or makeup for the wamphry. Basically, all you would need is the voice to go along with the Lord or Lady. I agree that a movie like this would probably redifine horror movie making. Enough with these teen horror flicks already!!

I've said it before I'm going ot say it again. The only way that this series is going to work is if it is adapted for TV. Not one of the big networks but say maybe HBO or something. If series like "Oz", "The Sorprano's", and "Spawn" are any indication then it would be the perfect netowrk to show it on. But then again even Fox could get away with it, just watch an average episode of the "X-Files". Or hell, even NBC. Some of the recent episodes of "ER" and "Third Watch" have been pretty gory.
