View Full Version : Dreamlands Movie?

Speaking of cheesy movies........

I have been rereading the Dreamland series and I keep picturing Mel Gibson and his big red-headed friend (I can't remember his name) in BraveHeart. The way they goof off and beat each other up is very similar to the way Hero and Eldin act. Not to mention the adventuring and fighting someone all the time.
I think this could be a really cool action/adventure/fantasy movie, if a bit far-fetched. I mean, what makes a good action movie these days besides the action...cheesy one-liners!! These books are full of them!!

Can you think of anyone better to play them? What about the other characters?

For the Dreamlands films I'd cast Tim Roth as David Hero and gotta be Sshhhir Sshhhean Connery as Eldin.

I didn't have Eldin pictured that oooolld!
And isn't Tim Roth the gut-shot gut in Reservoir Dogs? Mr. Brown, or Blue, or Red? Seen it 5 times and can't remember...!
He'd be wild!!

Hi Nathan
Yep Tim Roth is always the cool Brit in American films.

I thought I'd add to the cheesiness of the film by casting Sshhir Sshhean as Eldin.
He is maybe too old for the role but it'd be funny because whatever Eldin's nationailty, he'd have a Scots accent.

Yeah but the red-head in BraveHeart has an even stronger Scottish accent. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

I would also worry about Roth, as Hero, referring to Eldin as 'HoneyBunny'!! LOL

Well Nathan since we can't agree on the choice of Sshhir Sshhean, I was thinking of casting a classic duo in the roles.

Thnking of people I've met from the Board at gatherings I have 2 great names to put forward.

Topol as David Hero, gung-ho adventurer

Shroom as the wiser Eldin. Font of all Mythos knowledge.

If you'd met these guys, you'll know what I mean. Top Lads.

Well, what can I say?

I think it's a great idea to cast me and the 'shroom, although he'd probably end up nearly killing me! Seriously!

I would love to go about maiming and killing people, although that is slightly illegal at present, so I think I'll refrain from that activity! I do think questing and beer are for me http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Jase, you say only the nicest things http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

*LOL*

That's funny!! http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif I haven't met them personally but from the banter I see here sometimes, I'd say they'd be a good choice!

It's occured to me that my "slightly illegal at present" line would also probably have been slightly illegal in there "time/dimension" as well... although they never got caught!

And if Shir Shean were a bit younger he would be perfect. I wasn't disputing your choice, I'd just have to laugh at his attempts at the action and womanizing with his cane and bottle of Geritol!! http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

*weighs the possibilities...*

Hmm...Tim Roth...Sean Connery...

Tops & Mr 'Shroom...

Tim & Sean...

Tops & 'Shroom...

Hmm...will get back to you on that..unless....

If Sean wears a kilt...then all bets are off!!!

*swoons*

What the hell!?! How did that doublepost happen? http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/frown.gif

Yeah, the legallity of their adventures was always a bit shaky! I think that's why I like them so much. Sort of like Lumley's Robin Hood and Little John. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Nathan
What have we started? LOL

Well there we go - Messrs. Shroom and Topol, tailor made for the roles.

OIE™ TOPS!! Not fighting fair on this are you??? LOL!

Hmmm....of course...you ALL could wear kilts...and then can have Tim & Sean as stand-ins...you know..for the stunts! Hee hee

Hmm..might not be such a good idea...then I will be doing nothing but swooning throughout the whole movie...

Jase...I was thinkin' about it, and I shouldn't blame you, nor should you blame yourself! We were having an innocent conversation and the Ladies are the ones who started giggling and swooning! http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif Sorry. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Scarlet...You haven't read these? They are fastpaced and fun reading! What's holding you up?

How about Bruce Willis for Hero? I don't know if he could pull off the accent, but he's good at bein' a tough cheeseball! I can't think of a good partner for him though. Any ideas?

Bruce Willis is a good choice. But Topol would get upset if he lost the part.

For classic (ie dead) actors I would put down Cary Grant for Hero - the Ladies would love that choice.

James Mason as Eldin as he was a great swash- buckler as Rupert in The Prisoner of Zenda.
