OK - now that we're here....Cole did realise that Bruce's character was dead. If you think back throughout the movie - he reacted the same way to Bruce as he did with everyone else - scared, apprehensive, untrusting - only until he got to know him...and if memory serves, the temp did go down when Bruce was around. It was subtle hints that I can't remember now, but the filmakers couldn't come right out and go "here, the temperature dropped 20 degrees jus tnow.." - that would have given the show away. Bruce was the only "nice" dead guy that Cole was involved with, and even then he was apprehensive....
My wife and I personally loved it and when it comes out on DVD, we're going to grab it. I thought it was an excellent show with a great twist...even though once you see the ending - you know you should have figured it out from the start...
My thoughts...

oops, sorry Shadoe, forgot all about that....
ok, i can see where u are coming from, andi don't know if i mentioned it b4...but i don't like watching horror films as such, i much prefer to read their books..so maybe i'm prejudice anyway...i just thought they could have done soooooo much better with it. Do you remember the OMEN?....i just thought that had the right amount of creepiness and eerieness in it and i loved it....
:))) i'm not a movie critic but i just gotta say i didn't like it...
If u ever get the DVD for Frankenstein however, and u don't want it, throw it my way...:)))))
take care dear

Hi
yes thats the one....
as i'm typing this to you, the radio is playing a commercial for the 6th sense
in fact, i think the reason why i was disappointed was coz i read about it first, i've decided NEVER to read a critics viewpoint or even what the film is about, i seriously think thats why, i knew there was going to be a twist so i looked out for it, i guess if i didn't know what was going on, i would have liked it....loved it even...
damn the critics out there!!!..
have u seen the Blair Witch?...i'm gonna go see that and there is also a movie about called Vampires...i'm just gonna go....eyes closed....
didn't u like frankenstein?...i like the costumes and colors of the movie....
got a soft spot for Roberto too...:))
a bientot mon ami

See...that's the difference - When my wife and I went to see 6th, we just went with no premise of what happened at all and we went purely for entertainment. No-that's a lie - everyone was talking about how it was a Necroscope ripoff and I was looking for that, but I didn't see it at all. (the connection, that is)
We did see Blair Witch the other night - on DVD in the comfort of our own home. I liked it, my wife hated it. It is different - more of a psychological movie than horror really. It's really hard to describe, but read up on it before you see it at the website. It will give you the background that you really need before watching.
Are you talking about John Carpenter's Vampires? If so, it was based on the John Steakley novel Vampire$. Now, I hate to say it, but I haven't read John's novel, just saw the movie. It was good because it was a vampire movie and I like almost any vampire movie (I got a kick out of Dusk 'til Dawn and it was horrible as a movie), but I think you'll agrree - the special effects could have been better.
I did like Frankenstein. I thought it was masterfully done and I need to grab it on DVD. There is actually a double disc set of that and Vampires for like $25 - I need to swallow my cheapness and go get it.. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

yes thats the one, John Carpenter...i'm just gonna go....i remember going to see Blade without knowing even that it was a vamp movie but it was good....
hey never mind you being cheap, i don't even have DVD player....:))) that stems from me being a student and having NO money....actually, i just got myself an apartment so thats where its all gone.
ok then, can u recommend any good vamp films that i can gt out on video?...i'm not talking gory bloody stuff...more supernatural like...
I think everyone is hitting a wall trying to decide who should play Harry...why don't u give us your opinion on it?...

Scarlet Cole stated that the temperature only goes down when the ghost is in distress. When Bruce's character realised he was dead, the temperature dropped, and you could see his wife's breath.
I enjoyed the film, but figured out Bruce was dead two minutes in, as did a couple of other people in my group. That in a way though made it enjoyable on a different level because we could see how cleverly it was all put together.

While on the subject matter of books to movies, and rip offs, has anyone seen Stir of Echoes? Personally, I haven't seen it yet, and don't really care to. I have read the book, by Richard Matheson (one of my favorite, and most inspiring authors) and do not wish to see the movie, only for the threat of making it seem worse then it may actually be, wether it turns out to be a "good" movie or not.
Secondly, nearly everyone and their dog is complaining that it's a direct rip-off of the 6th Sense (hence my reason for posting this message here)... but, if it was derived from a book written in the 80's, how can it be a rip-off of the 6th Sense? ... does anyone know/remember if the 6th Sense was based on a book, or written exclusively for the silver screen??? .... Also, perhaps it is a possiblity that the 6th Sense is, however indirectly, a rip-off of the book Stir of Echoes?? ... it could happen [shrugs] ... thoughts??

Scarlet: A Stir of Echoes was first published and copyrighted in 1958 actually. It was re-released in like '84 or '85 though.. or maybe it was re-copyrighted ~scratches head~ ... Anyway, it's been around for about 40 years prior to The 6th Sense. . .

I have to admit I was taken by surprise when I found out that Bruce Willis was a ghost the whole time but I remember at the beginning of the movie ..I was asking myself.."Who turned this doctor on to the kid?" I mean doctors just don't show up without an invitation. And I kept asking myself.."Doesn't this guy ever change his shirt?" *L* You'd think that I would have seen it coming. Oh well...I really enjoyed the movie even if it played of of the Necroscope theme a bit.

Scarlet:
There was only one scene where the mother and the 'doc' appeared to interact, where they were both sitting in the living room waiting for the kid to get home. They never exchanged words, and were staring blankly at eachother until the kid came home. The mother never introduced the doc, and eventually left the room, thus leaving the two alone. This is a kind of scene that could go both ways, and thus it fooled everybody in the theatre http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Brane That was the scene that gave it away for me. She didn't say anything, and Cole didn't speak to him until she left the room.
I wonder if I would have noticed if it wasn't for that scene, and how my enjoyment would have been affected.

Hiya, Kids - Haven't been around in some time
but you'll be seeing me post here from time to time from here on in...
6TH SENSE - Haven't seen it yet, guess I'll have to get around to it. Haven't had alot of time lately for films, but I suppose I'll have to check this out.
STIR OF ECHOES - I love this book, I love Matheson. I don't know if I want to see Hollywood's take on it. As for it ripping of 6TH - I doubt it, the book was first published in 1958! By the way, it's great! Read anything by this man! (That's the kind of praise I usually reserve for Lumley, Lovecraft, Poe & Clark Ashton Smith!) Matheson was, along with Charles Beaumont (another great), a member of the original Twilight Zone round table. He also gave us the novel that became OMEGA MAN (I AM LEGEND), HELL HOUSE, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME and THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN.
DUST 'TIL DAWN - Shadoe, I dug this movie in a kinda ARMY OF DARKNESS sorta way!
Well, that's about enough outta me....

oh, yeah.....
VAMPIRES! - gotta say I love a good vampire movie but... special effects hurt this one a bit (maybe a bigger budget would've helped) and it was just too brightly lit most of the time - not a lot of that good 'ol gothic atmosphere!
Now if you're interested in an unusual take on vampires, rent THE HUNGER starring Susan Saradon (oh! Janet!), Catherine Denuvue, and David Bowie! Very, very cool flick!

Hi Scarlet -
Well, I'm up here in soggy old Steve King territory - oddly, I don't think that much of King - that would be Maine. Originally from Virginia, but grew up in Detroit. Been in Maine since the mid 80's.
I've been reading Brian since early seventies. Got exposed to his early work via a strong affection for anything from Arkham House. I've got quite a Lumley collection going - about 100+ pieces at this point, about 83 signed by the Master himself!
I'd have to say that he's my favorite, although I love Lovecraft, Poe, C.A. Smith, R.E.Howard, Moorcock, Lieber (especially the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser series), James Branch Cabell and I have a special love for a book by John Myers Myers, SILVERLOCK.
Until recently I was a bookseller. Every time I saw someone hemming and hawing over which King book to buy, I would put NECROSCOPE in their feverish little hand and invaribly, they always come back for more...
I don't get much chance for that these days. I'm workin' in the computer support field now... yep gone geek!
Take care... catch you later.
