okies.. this isn't anything great but curious how many pondered it like i did before figuring it out...

think of words ending in -GRY. angry and hungry are two of them. there are three words in the english language. what is the third word? the word is something that everyone uses every day. if you have listened carefully i have already told you what it is.

Oh you people. Ok here is one and this is just trivia.

Everyone knows the TV show Gilligan's Island....or if not it is in syndication.

What was the name of the character known on the show as The Skipper?

DaveStrorm

Jonas Grumby

What about The Professor?

Pybob

We all know Gilligan's Island do we? And if we don't we can always catch it on syndication...

I hate to tell you this, but not everybody does, nor does everybody have syndication...

I don't want to sound cheeky, but can you try to be more international with your Qs? That way we get to have fun all over the world... http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hmmm . . . How about 'finch'? I am guessing that Indium (have no idea really) is In, because I have F, C, H for the others and In seems to fit nicely in there.

Dave........

absolutely correct, now, since you're still a thrall until your 30th post.....you don't get the prize of a whole trog to feast on......
next time you will........hehehe

Well, if not the whole trog, what part(s) do I get? http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

OK, here's a question . . . What word, by itself, can be used as 5 different parts of speech? And when combined with 'as' can be used as an additional 2 different parts of speech?

I'm going out on a limb here because, for all I know, there may be more than one answer. I guess we will find out. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Pybob
May 15th, 2000, 09:53 PM
I'm not totally sure if I've understood the question properly, but the word that immediately comes to mind is SO.

Since it can be used as an adjective - I would never tell you if it wasn't so...
As a conjuctive - I left early so I wouldn't see you...
As a noun (musical sense) - do re me fa so la ti do...
As a pronoun - It was fun when I first started coming to BL.com and has remained so...
As an exclamation - So! You finally found us then?

Since I've probably misunderstood the question I'll stop there... http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Pybob,

Well, that's why I went out on a limb. My word is not 'so', although as you have correctly shown, 'so' can also be used as 5 different parts of speech. However, the correct answer must also meet the 2nd part of my stated criteria (And when combined with 'as' can be used as an additional 2 different parts of speech?). If you can show that with 'so', then I guess I'll concede. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Pybob

DaveStrorm, just off the top of my head (again!), I can only think of one use in the way you've stated...

As a preposition - So as I was saying...

Give me a bit to see if I can think of another or of a different word, but I'm sure that it is a ridiculously common one... something like 'Do'... http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Yes, dracul, Neil was the hippie in The Young Ones, now what was the name of the actor that played Neil http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/wink.gif and what were the names of the other 4 characters?

Hmmmm I've just had an idea... American TV trivia vs. Brit TV trivia, only the Americans have to answer the Brit trivia and vice versa. Us Canadians, however, are allowed only to giggle on the sidelines.... hmmm... http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

dracul

Woah ARTEMIS, you've got me confused here http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif Are we talking about BOTTOM (as I mentioned in an earlier post) or the show Alexie Sayle played in?

Jeffistopheles
May 18th, 2000, 11:28 PM
Bottom was a show with Rik and Adrien. I think the one you might be thinking of is called The Dangerous Brothers.

Ehlana
May 19th, 2000, 01:54 AM
Artemis, either Bottom as has already been mentioned, that's the one I thought you meant... or how about Filthy Rich and Catflap?

dracul
May 19th, 2000, 06:14 AM
I'm glad somebody knows Bottom, I thought I was going paranoid and started to imagine things *sticks two pencils in his nose and puts some knickers on his head*

So I answered your question correctly ARTEMIS http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/tongue.gif
