I just noticed that Faethor, Thibor, Shaithis, Shaitin, Fess, etc. were simply more evil than many of the VW Wamphyri.

Lord Bobb... think about it, over on our Earth, Wamphyri have had a whole host of wicked, coniving, untrustworthy humans to contend with, not just a few travelling Gypsies... As a result, to survive on our Earth the vampires have to be much more evil than they had to in the VW. Where as in the VW they could afford to be more complaicent as they didn't have to hide themselves!

Just as Pybob said. And not only that, these Wamphyri came from Turgosheim where they had grown lax and blood was running out. Wratha and Vormulac said so too. So, no way to compare them with the Olden Wamphyri and those of Earth. Canker, however was a promising one...

Lichloathe, yeah, I forgot about Turgoshiem (how I don't know!).

And as for Canker... I much prefer his glorious lieutenant, I'll look out for her bar the next time I'm that way!

Faethor was originally from the VW. Probably the most crafty of all. He was thrown into the gate and entered our world that way.

Shaithis, Shaitin, were from the VW.

I believe only Thibor was from our world originally. Crafty yes but not compared to the masters.

The infighting of the Wamphyri on starside was the key to the craftyness. Staying a Lord while not getting the others to bann together against you and throw you through the hellands gate. Getting provisions on sunside while watching your back for other lords on the prowl. This is what they were all about.

When they came to the Hellands the learned to be sneakier and not appear to live to long. Trial and error, warmongers without going overboard.
Leavng thier territories alone while killing afar.

Now had you mentioned Turgosheim, They mostly were a bunch of complacent vamps, except Wratha. She was able to talk other Lords into fleeing. Had any of the other Lords been in Starside when they arrived they surely would have gone to the provisioning.

hope this brings back memories its been a while since I've read them.

I can't seem to remember where Fess came from. Someone help with that. I know he was a Ferenczy.

Dragutin I am just getting to that section in Blood Brothers (for the second time) and it does bring back memories. Working on a family tree as I go so, if know one else kicks in with Fess's origins I'll post them.

Dragutin,
Faethor was not originally from the VW. Since a family tree is mentioned, let me put my stone to it.
Ok, we have Nonari the Gross Ferency, originally from starside, banished in the hell-lands.
He had an egg-son called Belos Pheropzis, probably a lieutenant exiled with him from starside (Faethor say tha about Belos in "The Source").
He too had a son called Waldemar Ferrenzig and a daughter. As mentioned in "The Lost Years I", Waldemar had 2 sons (probably an egg son and one from his sister? -Brian leaves it open). Brother killed brother and the one who inherited Waldemar's castle was... Faethor Ferenczy. Oh, and as far as i recall, Waldemar is the only Earth Wamphyri who's fate is uknown (maybe we can hope for a comeback?).
Now as for Fess Ferenc, it is not really clear but the only Ferenczy remaining in starside after the bloodwars was Freyda Ferenc (daughter of Lagula). She was a Mother and expired producing 100 egg that were diseased all save one. That one entered a Szgany thrall called Bela Manculi (Ferenczy now?) that became heir to Freydastack. (That much from VWI). So i guess Fess comes from her line.....

oh and, Pybob, who's Canker's lieutenant and where's her bar? I might like to drop in too http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/wink.gif

Speaking of a family tree ... what a cool idea! Has anyone made a flowchart family tree of the wamphyri at all? I would love to see it (Otherwise I suppose I'll have to make one http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ah yes, It's starting to come back. I must of confused Faethor with Belos but I could swear he came from original starside. You all know what that means, Time to reread the series again and track the tree.

[B]shaithis@rocketmail.com<B/> I do believe a lot of people are working on a family tree.

Mike C, thanks man. I could manage a full family tree cause i always had an interest in Wamphyri histories as presented in the novels (I keep reading and re-reading them all the time). Th problem is i'm quite lousy with graphs and stuff. I much rather describe in word like i did. But if anyone would be interested we could work together for it....

Pybob: I think the Lieutenant you referred to wasn't Canker's but Radu's instead. And with her beguiling gaze, her eyes would be the last thing you ever saw. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/wink.gif
As for why Earth Wamphyri are more evil and devious: most of them were overcome and forced through the Gate by the other Wamphyri, no? This was a punishment given only to those who had commited the gravest of offenses or who had been beaten after a long, drawn out bloodwar. If the Wamphyri feared or detested these outcasts so much, then they must have reached a level of evil that even most 'normal' Wamphyri cannot tolerate.
