View Full Version : Should The Series End

As a writer Brian Lumley is probably sick of writing about the same thing all the time despite how amazingly brilliant his idea is and how he is such a genius (you are a god) but I can't help feeling sad the series is approaching its end. I know I thought that was it when the Vampire World series was finished but I would love to have seen a book about the Dweller & Brenda. They are two characters that were not fully developed. I would love to see what Brian Lumley came up with for the time they spent on Sunside/Starside. I am still amazed at how Brian managed to write 11 books on the one subject and yet (with 2 more on the way) and yet still leave room for more. It is the best series I have ever read. Maybe someone should write more of his books for him when he's dead - like Virgina Andrews and we could re-incarnate Harry (or even better make him immortal)!

I'm very sad that the series will be coming to an end, but I can understand why the ending in nigh. As stated in the past, there were a few things that kind of got complicated or mixed up as far as how to become a Wamphyri and all. It seemed like there were only a few ways but it seemed that the more we read...the there were different ways. But I was hoping for a spin off. Maybe something along the lines of Brenda and the Dweller or even maybe pre-Necroscope Vampire world. How the Travellers fought and survived during those times. I'm sure that if there is a way ...and an interest..and if Brian Lumley thinks it's a good idea..it will happen. **fingers crossed***

All good things must come to an end... It's a fact of life, and I have been fortunate that everytime I expect the Necroscope to end it comes back somehow. And it seems to get better. I bought the first three books when this story was supposed to just be a trilogy, but I knew it couldn't end there. After ten books I felt the story had run its course and there was no way Invaders would live up to my expectations. I haven't read it yet but looking at the posts here I think I will be pleasantly surprised when I do read it. So if Brian ends the whole thing with the E-branch books... I understand, and if he brings us some more... well that's okay too.

wizard,
Judging from your posts here, I'd say you don't care for the Necroscope series much. And what's this shit about an unfortunate accident? You looking to have an accident maybe? Speak carefully on this board or get booted - whether or not you meant it in any certain way, that is a very touchy subject and if you catch me on a bad day - you're gone.
On your other comment - Brian is not going to return to the Psychomech series in the forseeable future or any short stories for that matter. At least, from what I know. I don't try and read the future though, for it is a devious thing. Oops, sorry about that quote from the Necroscope series, I know you are glad that is coming to an end...

A valuable lesson to be learned from this is don't piss Shadoewolf off or he'll kick your arse.

Accident? I am now drawing an evil eye and pointing it at Wizard. You are so lucky Lord Shadoewolf does not make you into a gas beast to heat the airie. It seems you have some potential in this respect. And all does not end. It is in a circle. Think about it. What comes around goes around in all respects. Read the Necroscope again and you will find new things to absorb. New things to think about. It seems you where bitten by the rare donkieula.

i have read everyone's opinion on this and i guess eveeryone doesn't really mind if it does finish after the 13th installation, but me....naaaaaa...i wish it would go on and on....i just love it, and i agree with the Brenda/Nathan idea, that would be great...
i have honestly never read anything as good as this series and i can't believe in a couple of years i won't be reading it anymore, i will just have to read it over and over again...:)))

I'm with Scarlet on this, I'll miss the Necroscope and all his various incarnations (sigh!). I think I'll probably have a massive Lumley binge every year, reading the entire Necroscope series in one go (do Pringles do a Roasted Wolf Heart flavour?!)
PS - Scarlet, do you ever check your ICQ? http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well Scarlet I just finished reading Necroscope (AGAIN!!) and I am planning on reading them all (in order this time) but savouring every word. I must say the ending was quite ingenius. WOW! Anyway I have to agree about the series going on forever cos I think I'd go mad if Brian died suddenly and left it unfinished. The only positive thing out of all of this I can see is that maybe he will develop a new storyline and idea that we can become addicted to all over again. I'm not going to expect anything but I loved the Pyschomech series so I guess anything Brian writes will get my vote.
I have one question though - do the lost years come before or after the vampire series?

Like most everyone else, I am sad it will stop, but can completely understand why.
It will be great to sit down at the end and read all 13 in a row.

Mr.Lumley will have wrote 13 books about the same series when it comes to an end. A number of people have said that all good things come to an end. That is quite true, (well, apart from Bushmills Whisky - a drink from the Gods) but I just feel that the quality of writing in all 13 books, and the scope that the story has it would be a shame that it has to end. I have not come across any other series of books which comes close to the tales of E-Branch / Wamphyri.
But, at the end of the day, it is down to the boss man to decide. I suppose this is just my own personal plea, as there will be a small void in my life without the anticipation of more stories of the Wamphyri.

I understand why the Necroscope series must end. Its sad, but inevitable.
And in a small way, i rejoice...
Who knows what else Mr Lumley has up his voluminous sleeve?
He has more strings to his bow than Harry Keogh...

I don't think I really care if the series ends or not. As long as Brian himself doesn't stop giving us new works to read. If the Necroscope series went on and on and on, I'd read every bit of it. But it has to end sooner or later. I'm just glad it never got cheesey or anything.... that happens all too often with epics of this size. Hey, maybe we can do our own Whampyri stories and such, and post them somewhere so we all can enjoy them... make the world BL created that much larger... what do ya think?

I will read them as long as he writes them. No I don't want to see it end but it seems all great works come to an end eventually.

All I can say is sure, I'm going to miss the Necroscope series. More than anything I have ever read! After all, I was initially introduced to Lumley's writing through the Necroscope series. And what a writer he is too! I mean, up there just as high for me is his Titus Crow and other mythos tales! Actually I had never read an H. P. Lovecraft story until Lumley introduced the Mythos to me through Crow! And while H. P. Lovecraft's stories are different in style, (I really liked the actiony swash buckling adventurers that Titus, Henry, Hero and Eldin are) I am so happy that Lumley has turned my onto Mythos fiction!
Yet another genre Lumley had turned me onto are Robert E. Howard's fiction too! After I read his Khash novels, I was raving about the olden days of sword and sorcery! I loved it. Man has he introduced a lot of great writing to me!
All I can say is yes it's coming to the end of the series. But when I look back at what that ONE book has done to my life and reading habits I'm quite shocked! Well done Mr. Lumley. Thanx for introducing me to your worlds along with many other greats!
I pray that just because the Necroscope series is coming to an end, Brian's stories aren't!

How ever much it saddens me I know the Necroscope series must end but why so soon?
I think after the E-Branch Saga he should write a final book of over 1000 pages dealing with Shaitan coming back in all his glory (in his final leech stage to begin with but perhaps evolving more...)and with a small band of Wamphyri(5 or so)and of course an army of thralls,Lieutenents, and constructs to take over Earth.

Shathis it is true Shaitan would not be able to survive the nuke, but if Harry Keogh's corpse was able to end up in 3500 years into the past I think Lumley could find a way to bring Shaitan back.
