    The Touch: Latest Necroscope book.

This book simply blew. It was not good. Slow moving, and very, very little Necroscope powers demonstrated until the bitter end of the book. This venturing off into extraterrestrial territory for subject matter did not work AT ALL. I loved every other Necroscope book in the series, but these weak "golden darts" giving a smattering of Necroscope powers here and there, is also less than satisfying. I sure do hope that Lumley re-thinks this direction, and returns us to the REAL nitty gritty of Necroscope characters and powers.

I hope nobody is offended by this, but i really think Mr. Lumley should know that this was less than his best effort, by far.

I thought "The Touch was a fine story. You have to look at it as a stand alone story with connections to the Necroscope books.

Does anyone have an opinion as to why zorroe11 would refrain from posting here to discuss the works of the master, if he /she HAS read the entire Necro series, only to post a 'negative', without as much as an introduction???

    I do.

But I try to be civil on internet forums and I'm trying(very hard) to keep it that way.

Hope you feel better tomorrow zorroe.

    P.S. You hope no-one is offended by this. . . . . . . . .

Thanks for your reply to my comment. I have a few other zealous replies as well shooting me down, and I accept that. My opinion was meant as honest criticism, and why you decide to resort to personal attack is beyond me, but nevertheless I do appreciate your takin the time to reply. I am a big Necroscope fan, and I assumed, wrongly, that a fan could post something less than a stellar comment without getting a verbal lynching. I see it isn't so, but have a great day anyway.

Thanks for your reply. It's hard to look at it as a stand-alone because of the long history of the Necroscope mythology. Viewed in that light, I was less than thrilled. Honest, when I bought the book, I could not wait to read it and, while doing so, I was waiting for the old fire, which I felt was simply not there. But, I do see your point, even though one would have to know the general story to appreciate the book due to the references therein.

Thanks for your comment on my posting. The reason I never posted before, although I loved every Necroscope book, whether it took place on Earth or Starside/Sunside, is that a friend, after hearing my comment, told me of this site. This is how I discovered it. (Maybe ex-friend might better describe him after my comments and their response. lol.) In any case, I meant to cause no offense or distress, and the comments were heartfelt, yet STILL from a big Lumley fan. And I would definitely have posted great reviews before this on the other books had I known of this site's existence. Take care.

Matman72, disappointed with that post of your's more than "zorroe11" 's

Opinions are alway's welcome, whether for good or BAD.

Necroscope: The Touch. Was not in the vein (GEDDIT), in which I expected.
But, then again I have read other of Brian's works, which DO include aliens.

Wamphyri from another dimension/universe, so are also ALIEN!!!

AND I FOR ONE WELCOME YOU "ZORROE11" as a reader of Brian's works.

    Naughty MATMAN72...

    Couple of thing here really.

If you do not like a book as much as another you are entitled to say so. We all have opinions about Brians work (You have to judge whether to air them on a site dedicated to him). It may not be the best way to introduce yourself and you probably should expect adverse comments from other fans.

I personally enjoyed this one but not as much as some of the earlier offerings. They are all different in there own way

I should remind you that SHOUTING is something we do not do as it tends to wake me up.

Now if everyone is finished, lets play on.......

Oh and welcome to you anyway Zorroe, if you are a fan, you will enjoy it here and I'm sure you will find your way about soon.

I am currently reading The Touch and i have to say it is a great Lumley book maybe zorroe feels this way because of the lack of Harry in these pages but otherwise i cant see how the book could let you down so much. But everyone is entitled to there own opinions, and i think it is a great book as all Lumleys books are, but im not just a necroscope fan ( although they are by far my favorite and most choice reading materials) but i have also read and enjoyed greatly the Titus Crow series and The House of cthullu and began my Lumley journey with The Pscychomach series!!! So maybe i have a different view point on this book, so far though I love The Touch and would suggest it to any reader!!!

    zorroe, welcome man.

real great heartfelt post, we dont have enough of these. and with the world growing and evolving into something new in this era we need more people expressing themselves, so while i congratulate you on havin ze balls to truly say what you thought and completly annoy half of the active community :/ i will nah really say anything about the actual post content as i will get involved in yet another argument.

the touch.... well what can i say, i brought it last sunday, tis now saturday nyt, have been reading it in tutor time, after school, between homework and english coursework and..... its not what i really expected and having still not finished it, hopefully will by this time tomorrow, its turning out to be a mild book. i wouldnt rate it as great as the others and i wouldn't rate it as low as some of the crappy books i have read, i would possibly put the touch (if i have a scale of all my best and worst books) around about next to the drawing of the three by stephen king, the dark tower series, while the rest of that series and brians books are near the top, this one and the touch are somewhere around 6/10.

it isn't as action packed as i expected, not that gory and mind image creating as some of the others books, and i didnt just sit there in tutor and go, oh my god, like i did when reading vampire world back last march in tutor period. not a bad book, not a good book. im not really expecting a lot from the ending, i already know the ending partly as brian ruined it by setting it before most of the others so u know the world will survive. that sort of ruins it for me because there is no raging pulse not knowing whether they will survive or not.

possibly expecting st john to develop SOME powers of harry's beside crappy dream deadspeak and even worse telepathy, what myt be gud is if he eventually gets hold of the mobius continuum and ditches all of the aliens and their rubbish tech inside their, banashing them forever. probably not gonna happen but thats what one of my few theories is at this point. plz dont ruin it for me, only 150 pages to go

i also want to start a lil something up so have a hunt around my post if i manage to get it up tonight, if not i will work on it tomorrow, u will see it, sumt about necro fan fiction ;P

    peace out , andrew

Well I finished reading The Touch last night and I have to say I thourghly enjoyed the book and was only let down in one aspect of it, and that being the ending. I was hoping that Scott St.John was going to continue being the necroscope and thus continue this saga. But him losing his powers kind of gave it a certain finality, but hey being a huge necro fan lets hope Mr. Lumley has something more in store for us, I for one atleast hope he dies!

    Too bright and optimistic

I read all previous Necroscope's parts. This one disappointed me a little. There comes some excelent ideas - nasty alien monsters, evagination etc. Beginning is dark but by the time all is going too bright and optimistic and looses horror aspect. Main character is weak and cannot use his powers till the very end. Final is too predictable, classic Necroscope crusade with excessive time-rewind.
However it's not bad book, I got "Necroscope refreshment" on my summer holidays, met old friend from E-branch.
    70%
All other Necroscope books got about 90% :-)
