Maze of Worlds

[img]smile.gif[/img] i'm new to the board but have been a fan of brian lumley's since reading the fruiting bodies in weird tales [of which i have originals-they are packed away so i don't remember the exact dates but if anyone would be interested i could search them out and let you know]. i read all the necroscope series and a few other of his books [don't remember titles offhand].

i pose a question about the plot for maze of worlds...i just picked up the book and after reading the back cover my mind did a "what the" because it sounds exactly like a movie named "cube". i checked listings for cube but could find no reference to maze of worlds or brian lumley.

has anyone had the same reaction? would appreciate knowing or am i the only one?

Maze of Worlds is a lot like that movie, The Cube. But Maze is Maze and Cube is Cube... they're not related at all. Unless you consider ripping off stories a relation. [img]grin.gif[/img]

oh I've just clicked maze of worlds is a *bit* like the Cube, but the cube I'm sure was made after Brian wrote the Maze of Worlds, though I could be wrong on this, it doesn't matter if it wasn't. It does have similarities, but it is quite different to the Cube in other ways.

I wasn't impressed by the Cube 2 much even though it was quite good. Anybody else seen the sequel?

Wouldn't be the first time sci-fi on screen (large or small!) has perhaps been inspired by Mr Lumley's work, although I won't mention any names (St*rg*te!)

To be fair, I haven't seen Cube as the reviews I heard seemed to imply it was a bit lame!

The first Cube is a classic labyrinth tale and unlike Stargate owes little or nothing to BL's works, I can't say anything about the sequel as I haven't seen that...

If you're looking for a film that owes more to Mr Lumley that the person it was originally creditted to have a gander at The Lawnmower Man, bears little resemblence to the Stephen King story it is supposed to be based on and much more to Psychomech.

It's been years since I saw the Lawnmower man, must be at least 10 years... hmm... so I couldn't really comment. Love Psychomech though, fantastic!

Didn't Stephen King write the original book of this, or am I getting mixed up with something else?

I think King wrote the short story it's based on... but there are others that might know more. I haven't read any king for years.

King did write the short it was based on but had his name removed...

Yeah, but King's story is only eight pages long and involves a slacker who hadn't mowed his lawn in quite some time.

He hires a "lawnmower man" who comes over, strips down buck naked, and plods along behind the self-propelled mower eating everything it spits out... including a mole!

Then he kills the slacker and the story ends.

I don't know where they got that script from, but it sure ain't nothin' like the real thang!

Come on now, there were some terrible ones, but what about The Shawshank Redemption? The Green Mile? Misery? Stand By Me? Carrie? Cujo? Firestarter?

Have you seen Secret Window yet? Another great King flick that isn't advertized as such... creator of Panic Room indeed!

Quick story about the Lawnmower Man by Stephen King. When I was in 3rd or 4th grade, we had to take a story, draw pictures for it on Overhead projector sheets and it would be presented to the class. Well, I choose Lawnmower Man. I still remember the picture of the man on his hands and knees with blood squirting out of his mouth. Ahh the memories. I think my mom was called in to speak with the teacher about that one.

oh this made me laugh so similar to me [img]grin.gif[/img] My parents got called into my slightly religious primary school for many things with me under the age of 10, and well drawing gory art projects was one of them. Yes brings back funny memories, of them going red faced over pictures of vampires eating people, though I'm not a great drawer and never was, probably just looked like one potato eating another potato. (wipes laughter tears from eyes)
