No kidding.
I just got finished clock of dreams about 3 days ago.
I really enjoyed the book and i loved the titus character, but what ever titus wanted his little bitch deMarginy was required to provide. Wether it be his clock or his cloak.
It was kind of like a recpect your elders issue, screw you eh!
deM. come to save his ass out of an act of friendship and gets the short end of the stick when it comes to notoriety.
Thanks a lot friend. (note the sarcasm if you will)

Its pretty obvious De Marigny enjoyed being Titus Crows side kick and anyway he had a few chapters all to himself - how about that then!!!
regards and best wishes.

Crow and De Marigny are both reminisent of Holmes and Watson... & when it came to arrogance none was more so than Holmes...
Besides, there is a fine line between self-confidence and arrogance, in my opinion Crow treads that fine line occasionally going from one to the other...

Ooooooohhhh. I like that idea Pybob... I think I'll use that fine line thing when my girlfriend calls me arrogant in the kitchen next time........
But that is a very good point and I whole heartedly agree with you. I wish I had though of it...

I think I would be arrogant too, if I could travel through space and time and lived in a land with god-like creatures.

Arrogant? Yes, I suppose he was..
But it was his arrogance, even in the face of something as alien as mighty Cthulhu, his conviction that he could make a difference, that 'saved' himself, and the Universe...

If you will recall it was titusd crow who wouldn't tell his friend that he would be cahsed accross the universe by cthulhu... I think it was DeMarigny who saved the universe... he played the biggest part in trapping cthulhu (even if he didn't know)...

Titus Crow was a bum, appart from the burrowers beneath and Transition he doesn't do much at all, Henry comes to his aid in Clock of Dreams and then that's it he doesn't do anything else, and Henry and some others do all the work while he sits in paradise romping with his pixie.
He let's his supposed best friend be the bait for the prime evil, and then hogs the glory at the end, he even gets the books named after him when the cheeky bugger was harly in the last three.OOH ER MISSUS

Wouldn't you act a bit arrogant now and again as a revenge on the World for your parents naming you Titus?
Seriously, as Pybob has already said the relationship of Crow and de Marigny was modelled on Holmes and Watson and to me their arrogance is the flipside of their genius.

Titus is a true arrogant genius ... De Marigny was his beetch!! A real hero IMHO ... His arrogance is why he's so readable..... Good Point regarding Holmes and Watson.

This is totally off subject, but it has the arogance issue here. I allways thought Harry Keogh was on the arrogant side on more than one occassion, and when he was in this mode he allways f**ked me right off...

p.s by mentioning this, is it it a red flag to a bull? (yelps and runs off)

I think that when you've done all the stuff that Titus Crow has and when you have as much knowledge as him you're entitled to be arrogant. Same goes for Harry. If they wern't arrogant they probably wouldn't have been able to achieve what they did. Arrogance is very close to self confidence.

Silver is right, Arrogance is only another side of self confidence, for example was Muhamed Ali arrogant...Prince Naseem Hamed arrogant ?..no I think they were supremley confident, just like Titus Crow, and lets not forget (without giving away any spoilers) Titus was no ordinary person.

Take a look at just about any dyed in the wool hero at the cinema... From Neo to Spiderman - Indy Jones to Obe Wan - James Bond to xXx - they're all arrogant little buggers at heart but if they weren't which of them would get off of their butts to get done what must be done?

This is mostly personal perception (and everyone's is different), but I think there's a big difference between confidence and arrogance, and that is humility. You can all the confidence in the world and still have humility, but if you lose (or never had!) the humility, it's arrogance. Or put another way, confidence is something you have in yourself not in relation to anyone else, but arrogance is to be confident that you are superior to others, and to act in that manner. To use Deano's example, I think Ali was confident, whereas Naseem was arrogant.
To use my own definition, i can't make my mind up whether I think Crow was arrogant or confident... he often said that his various talents were superior to de Marigny's, but to be fair that was usually the case. Ad he acted in great humility around Kthanid. So I'm gonna keep the fence-post well and truly up my butt! Drum Bitch Extraordinaire... http://www.facebook.com/SysFX

Good point GG. I didn't mean that confidence and arrogance were the same, they are very similar is all.
