  2. Thought I'd repost this again for all the newbies I've seen lately. I wrote it for the newsletter a few years ago and it is still one of my favorites... enjoy! 'Twas the night before Bloodwar and all through the spire The Wamphyri were stirring, their blood all afire. Curtains shrouded the windows, hung with great care, So that the enemy would not see them there. Wratha up top, with her plots and her schemes, Visions of conquest a-dance in her dreams. Lichloathe below (he had already flown), Hunting an Enemy soon to be known. Canker was singing to his Mistress Moon, Slapping his ear to the horrible tune. Spiro and Wran were fighting again, While Gorvi below amassed undead men. When up from the pits arose such a clatter, They wondered at once just what was the matter. Away to their windows they skittered as one, To see how much damage was already done. The hot fire of methane, white as the snow, Gave a luster of midday to the horror below. When what to their wondering eyes should appear? But a barely -glimpsed man with strange, deadly gear. There in a second -- then gone with a stroke, They knew in a moment, 'twas the Necroscope! More rapid than light his human form came, And he cursed and he shouted and called them by name: "Wratha the Risen, and Lord Nestor too, Lords Wran and Spiro -- I got to you! Gorvi the Guile, and Canker the Pup, Turn back right now, just give it up! From the top of the spire to the lowliest hall, Best dash away, dash away, dash away all!" Wamphyri, they waited, and everyone knew They were dealing with Vormulac... ...and the Necroscope too! And then in a twinkling they heard in the night A roaring and belching that filled them with fright. As they drew themselves in and were turning away, Spiraling down came those great beasts of prey. They were dressed all in armor and ready for war, Their gauntlets raised up, all covered in gore. The weakest came first, they came winging right on, Thinking the bloodwar was already won. Their eyes, how they twinkled, their mandibles dripping, Why, this was no fight -- it was more like a whipping! But into the night the Renegades came, Hacking and tearing, to kill and to maim. The bulk of the spire they held by their teeth, And the smoke that encircled it hung like a wreath. And then came a bloodwave, vicious and smelly, That shook up the earth like a bowl full of jelly. They were beaten and bruised - a right sorry lot, But they put up a fight and gave what they got. In the wink of an eye and a whole Sundown fled, Soon gave them to know, they were better off dead. Spiro flown, and the Guile gone down under, Wran flown away, to pillage and plunder. Canker was raving and Wratha alone, Up high in a cage, her small army flown. She begged for naught but a fond farewell kiss, (With her dark gypsy looks, how could she miss?) The phlegm that she gathered deep in her gullet, Was spat into the Grandam, quick as a bullet! And laying her hands on the bars of her cage, Wratha the Risen did rant, rave, and rage. She was heard to exclaim as she dangled on high, "My death shall be swift -- but how shall you die?!" Well, they'd had a good plan, fought a valiant fight, But the fact of the matter: 'twas not a good night!

  4. At least for a day or five. I have finally finished the first draft of my book and needed a break before the rewrite. So, before I retreat back into The Black, I thought I'd pop into The Place of Original Inspiration and see what I could see. How are things in the Lumlian World?
  5. I have several items I intend to put on ebay, but thought I'd give you guys first shot at some of my loot. The following are all Hodder & Stoughton hardcover publications (UK) in pristine condition with dustjackets: Necroscope: The Lost Years (Volume I) Necroscope: The Lost Years (Volume II) E-branch: Invaders (first printing) Necroscope: Defilers (E-branch Volume II) signed Necroscope: Avengers (E-branch Volume III) Next is Weirdbook numbers 18, 21, 26, 27, and 28. And finally, Alien Horizons: The Fantastic Art of Bob Eggleton. 6. It really is a great book. I lost a little respect for Canker when he implied it was better than The Stand - King is one of my favorites - but gained it back and more after I took up his challenge. The Stand drags in places, dealing too deeply with the mystical side of the situation... Swan Song takes hold and doesn't let go, all action. Enjoy your leisurely read of The Stand, my friend, that's the best way to make it through... but Swan Song makes that approach impossible.
  7. I seem to remember praising Swan Song loudly a couple of years ago (not to mention praising Canker for telling me to read it), and getting the distinct impression Tops was gonna read it then! What's wrong with you man? The Stand is great, but it ain't no Swan Song! It ain't easy to find so I'll send you my copy if you have any trouble... 8. I tend to agree on most of your points, especially the memory wiping bit, but I found the Mordri to have equal potential to the Wamphyri in evility... they just got their asses kicked before it could be fully developed! And our new necroscope only realized his own full potential near the end of the mission for which he was chosen and then balked at the use of those powers... but hell, they are some pretty frightening powers! Harry had lived with them somewhere inside himself from birth, and even he balked several times! While their race as a whole was an interesting concept, I was surprised to discover that they were for the most part good aliens, that it was only the three mad seeds come to Earth to destroy humanity. I would have liked to see the possibility of more of them coming in the future to exact revenge. The idea of the Mordri Three searching for "God" and using the desruction of worlds to call him out was very cool, but the insinuation that Harry was somehow a god or employed by a god was a little over-the-top for what we've been told thus far. Nope, not the best Necroscope book, especially with very little hope of more to come, but still pretty kick ass! I enjoyed the fresh spin. [ July 24, 2006, 03:51 PM: Message edited by: Nathan ]
  9. As a moderator I was initially inclined to chastise you for your pottie-mouth, Mr. Stone, and remind you how we (as good, rule-reading posters) try to tone down our natural sickmouth tendancies here at BL.com at the behest of its namesake. We don't want to seem like a bunch of empty-headed foul-mouths... But looking at the context in which the explitive was used I cannot bring myself to fulfill the obligation because you're 100% correct...that is fucking ridiculous!
  10. I think your mind has finally gone for good, Ema Demogorgon is great! It - along with Khai - makes me want more stand-alone books from Brian...
  11. Amarfa - I'll let my set go for a decent price...send me an email.
  12. Well I didn't intend to sound like I was ranting, just never giving them another chance. But it was recorded in '86? I might check that out... I was referring to your comment about them being back in the studio. That's the one I won't be buying. As for SOAD, they're just going over-the-top with the strange noises and whatnot. It was cool for the first two albums but it's gotten irritating. Fortunately for you, the guys at work are giving it chance after chance after chance... so chances are I'll like it eventually. Or be totally sick of it by the end of next week! Rob Zombie just lost his "heavy". That Foxy Foxy song makes me think of kittens and butterflys... not my cup of tea.
  13. I've been done giving Metallica chances for years. Hell, even "The Black Album" seems decent, now that I've been subjected to subsequent pathetic efforts... Damage Plan has one of the best complete albums I've ever heard, and "Tempo of the Damned" by Exodus is a nice breath of classic thrash, though its too-quick follow-up ("Lessons in Violence") sucks hard. I've also gotten into Breaking Benjamin, Hurt, Flyleaf, and Lamb of God. And of course the ever-present godfather of thrash, Slayer, is working on yet another masterpiece. They're working with Rick Reuben, but I don't think even he will be able to commercialize them. Plus, singing lessons wouldn't help Tom anyway... Recent disappointments have been Disturbed, Godsmack, Rob Zombie, and System of a Down.
  14. As usual it's all mumbo-jumbo to me too! Hey Shadoe, now that there's more "space" you should create two separate threads for stuph like this... Just make the one for people like me say something like, "board'll be down for awhile... be faster when it comes back up (ya stoopid gits)."
  15. Holy Kwap!! My, my, but this thread has filled out nicely! Some very nice things you all have secured... I need to update! My collection has both grown and significantly changed in arrangement over the years... the incarnation shown in the first post looks a little pathetic now, to be honest! And this was a nice little 'straight to the f*cking point' post!
  16. Man, it never ceases to thrill me when I see someone with so much ahead of them. Of course it always gets me pissed with jealousy too, but... Such is life. I think it should be a standing rule that no one is allowed to read the next book in the series for at least six months after finishing the one previous. C'mon, it's only half the time I waited! You'll savor each one that much more... No? Okay... enjoy the ride. [ April 08, 2006, 10:48 PM: Message edited by: Nathan ]
