Okay, so we have this forum floating around somewhere about who we would cast if they really do turn Necroscope into a movie. Oddly enough we don't have anything going round about what music we'd put in the movie. Since music is very important to the overall tone and feel of what's going on, or it gives hints as to what's coming up in the very immediate future. I figured I'd toss it out there as something we can have some fun with. So if you have a suggestion tell what scene you'd put it with and what the song is (add artists if you know them but you know how many people are good at that!)

So here's mine, when Harry comes to the conclusion about Shukshin has to die for killing his mother and that he's going to do it, even though his mother tried talking him out of it. Until it Sleeps would be good there, but I'd say to use the Apocalyptica version on the grounds that it's an instrumental and it's very fluid and flowing, plus with the emotion behind that interlude the words that are actually in the song would be a distraction.

So there we go. If anyone out there thinks I'm crazy for my idea or even starting this thread, I welcome you to say so. Just felt I'd try and throw out something new and fun that's easy for everyone to join in on, new or old.

I think this has been discussed before, but probably long ago, when the movie was just a pipe dream! And maybe Nathan (the king of old posts!) can remember where it was posted, but I can't!

 

Like casting, music is such a personal thing and everyone has such different tastes, we're probably all gonna have very conflicting views!

 

I don't think the music I listen to would work for the Necroscope movie at all though! I doubt most of you know any of the bands I listen to (except P, although apologies if we've got any secret Combichrist fans in here!), but the stuff I like is probably too bleepy!

 

I wouldn't like to have Apocalyptica or Nightwish, that kinda thang, but that's just because I don't like them (no offence intended Jade!). I love Danny Elfman soundtracks, but I don't think it'd work with the kind of film I hope Necroscope turns out as (see my Newsletter article if you want to know what I mean!).

 

I guess something atmospheric and dark would work well, or for fight scenes, maybe some pounding industrial like Rammstein. But I'm biased because I like Rammstein (woo-hoo, Brixton Feb 3rd!)

No it's okay... I listen to a lot of odd stuff that wouldn't work to... I haven't really looked at all the older posts that are hidden away. I was just trying to start something that everyone could talk about that kind of gives hints about a person. But I keep seeing comments about newbies not joining in anything, and I figured starting something up that's easy for everyone to get involved in would be a good thing... if this has been done and hashed out already, then I guess it's okay if you delelte it. I'm not going to hold it agiasnt you... Maybe I really ought to go looking through all the older stuff. Funny that you don't like Apocalyptica, you're mention of them in the what's your spinner round is how I found them. (I think they're great, but then I play both violin and cello.)

No, this is cool... it's not an ongoing discussion anywhere else! And if I haven't got the time to wade through a billion old posts in search of one or two, I don't expect anyone else to! It never really got talked about in depth anyway, so it's great to revive it.

 

Think I mentioned Apocalyptica after I saw them at a festival in Germany... was amusing to listen to, but really not my thing at all... but's it cool if I spread the word! (Cello and violin! wow, I could barely manage the triangle!)

I'd really like to hear that "Darkmage And The Demonseed" that mentalhell posted up. I recently contacted Brian on permission to record our song "The Final March of the Tartars." It's a death metal battle march so to speak and I shouldn't need to tell you what it's about. I'll be recording it next week and it will strictly for the site. You guys will know when it hits. Can't wait.

 

And I would have to go with some kind of original score for the movie. I like Pybob's suggestion of Danny Elfman.

There is a particular ELO tune that always reminds me of Necro for some reason, every time I here it my imagination just runs through a kind of extended trailer for the movie and my mind kinda orders the scenes to the music.

 

The particular tune I'm on about isn't really a song proper as there are no real words to it, it's called Fire on High and has that kind of erie feel to it but also some uplifting high tempo bits with acoustic guitars.

 

If anybody checks it out let me know what you think as it's quite possibly just my over active imagination and Tops tends laugh at my suggestions.

I remember bringing this up at KC3 in the bar, and when I said Evanesence's (no idea how to spell that) Wake me up would be good for a Necro Promo video Tom just laughed and told me to go back to sleep (You cut me deep bro....you cut me real deep )

Yes, Helm that song is definitely a creeper tune, but I like. I believe ELO is Electric Lights Orchestra, or that's who came up when I put in the song title. It's going to have to grow on me, but I guess it COULD work...

As to Evanescence, my first point is that the song your referring to is not titled wake me up, it's Bring me to Life. Second if you're going to go with them you'd have to have one of the more "haunting" melodies. Haunted, My Imaginary, or perhaps Hello.

If we're going to go with a popular song with a more "upbeat" melody behind it, Head full of Ghosts by Bush might work.

If it'll make you feel any less like an idiot, I keep thinking the song Stitches by Orgy would work somewhere, perhaps in the bit with Harry and Karen and that couple of days they spend locked away in Karen's Aerie exploring the boundaries of sex among the Whamphyri, yeah, it could really work right there. And if that won't work, Closer from NIN would always be a good choice.

Instrumental stuff is great, especially when I can hear the stringed instruments, but I'd say we'd have to have a few songs out there with words. Not all, just some... because it's fun when you can sing along with the song in the movie (it's not so fun when you can sing along with it and not know the title. Course this is coming from the girl who spent half of that Pirates of the Caribbean movie trying to figure out what turtles had to do with anything, so you know. Feel free to ignore me).

Ghosts and Gadgets.....

 

Somewhat modern but distorted electronic modern themes, but a switch to crude wooden/string instruments for certain other scenes. And any other song Brian thinks should play in a car radio or a scene when some random character is at home doing whatever.

Probably a bit cliched, but I think Diamanda Galas would be a great choice for the sound track.

 

If you don't know the name, one of her songs is used towards the end of Bram Stoker's Dracula (where the coach races back to the castle), and also in Natural Born Killers, around the snake-bite/Indian scene... you know the demonic warbling "Devil, devil, devil..." bit? That's her!

Once again ... I know I've already posted this recently ... Danny Elfman and the folks who did the theme for Farscape.

One of my favourite films of recent times is Resident Evil. The second installment, 'Apocalypse' was made on a much larger budget, with bigger scenes and superior locations. Even though this may be the case, I still prefer the first one. In my opinion the main difference between the 2 films is not the money spent but the background atmosphere, generated by none ther than Marilyn Manson. Dunno why they didn't ask him back for the second film but it sure shows, the first film is far more jumpy and scarier through his input.

I just have to come in and say that in terms of Danny Elfman. I agree with you all. I know who is now, kind of. Edward Scissorhands. I'm not obsessed with it and in downloading music discovered that he did the music. So yes, he should do Necroscope. I've been made a believer.

Right then, I'm not sure about during the movie but there is a good song that could be a theme tune. It's a B-side to a song by a band called Busted (people from the US might not know them).

It's called "Runaway Train". I don't know who originally released it. I think it would suite the movie well because of one line:

 

"I can go where no one else can go..."

 

Sounds all mysterious like the Harry Keogh we all know and maybe love and it sorta maches the whole mobius continuim thing- no one else can go. Im talking utter rubbish here lol.

to be honest my heart says ,yeah make a necroscope film ,but my head is saying i just hope it dont turn out like so many book to films that have gone wrong in the past and cant really see any director script music score that will do the fantastic story brian has created any justice at all....i fear the worse

Ooops! Sorry, I was looking at this and thought I was in the necroknowledge thing and tried to put up my question here. But, Skints you are entitled to your own oppinion. And I as well worry they'll mess it up when/if they convert the books to film. I mean, they butchered Queen of the Damned when they did it (and I kept a running commentary of everything they did wrong throughout the whole movie). But while they might ruin it, the prospect of getting it out there is just so much fun. And who knows how many new fans we could end up with.

Right on!!! There's a soundtrack I can relate to.

I've really gone off Danny Elfman for Necro-movie scoring... His stuff's great but too associated with super-heroes and PG12 films.

 

Now I'm more inclined towards a Mancini/Kamen collaberation as with Lifeforce (imdb)- the overture to that film always comes to mind when I'm reading the saga...

 

Trouble is they've both passed on!

Sorry Exsanguinator I'm totally unfamiliar with that film or the noted composers. Then agian you have to realize I only found Elfman in the last month. Course I'm the girl who lives in a book. My friends are serioucly fretting over the fact that I'm soon to be getting a new Lumley book (Necroscope and Other Weird Heroes). I don't get out as much as I probably should. But there are just SO many good books to be read yet.

I think a soundtrack in the same vain of "the crow" would work.

 

Dead Souls by NIN would be magic with any number of scenes I can think of off the top of my head.

There's always been a scene in "Deadspawn" that I think would be good in a movie. When Harry and Karen realize that Shaitan and Shaithis are on their way to Starside, Harry should get on a flyer to do reconnaisance. Pausing on the brink of the bay, he remembers Brenda,a little of his life before he became a vampire, and "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty starts playing. The flyer drops out over the edge of he bay, and just as it's wings catch air, the chorus of the song kicks in, really hard. Also, the fight scene in the Chateau, "Let the bodies hit the floor", I think it was by Rob Zombie. Fast paced, and quite appropriately named, both the song and the artist.
