I'm not sure about rock music for the movie. An original score would be my preference. A good dose of gypsy music wouldn't go astray (depends of course on which scenarios make it into the script). I would however hate for the movie to suffer from cramming multiple storylines into 90mins at the expense of character development. This story needs to unravel at its own pace. I say one movie per novel. There are too many great characters to leave out. Yes to Dragosani, but wouldn't you love to see Johnny Found!

Hi everyone, glad to finally be joining the ranks of Brian Lumley fans!! At least officially, anyway. I've been reading Brian's works since the 8th grade.

 

Anyway, I just wanted to throw a song for the soundtrack out into the open arena of suggestions.

 

There is a band called The Last Dance that recently did a remake of the Oingo Boingo classic, "Dead Man's Party". They are a industrial goth-style band, who do incredible shows, but are still not that well known.

 

Firstly, I saw that Danny Elfman (of Oingo Boingo) might be looked at for a possible orchestrational soundtrack. I'm sure he'd have given the okay for the remake of his song, so it would be an interesting tie-in.

 

Secondly, soundtracks are always a good jumping board for slightly unknown bands to finally make it into the limelight, especially given recent collections for "Underworld", "Resident Evil" and "Elektra", which helped to introduce bands like Luna Coil or Evanescence on the "Daredevil" compilation.

 

Plus, the music can be purchased for use for a bit cheaper than hugely known bands. Fans of horror films tend to be extremely faithful and especially to their music choices. Benefits abound!

 

Anyway, I am looking forward to this movie and hope I can do anything to boost it's success. I am also hoping to see another, even if it's the last, Necroscope novel. None of the books in the complete series has ever let me down, but the fourth, "Deadspeak" is my all-time favorite. It has all the elements that make you love Harry and love-hate the vampires.

just been reading though, and there are some real good ideas, i've just been re-reading the books and listening to Korn: see you on the other side, it is as if it was written for the necroscope!!

Most movies with contemporary (to the time of production) music featured heavily in the soundtrack do not age well.

 

I would like to hear an original score from an actual composer. Let the London Symphony do the recording.

 

Elfman sounds good in my book. Listen closely to the Planet of the Apes opening credits. Very heavy and moving (despite the less-than-moving-story).

 

I've always been a fan of chant and opera in movie soundtracks, as well. "O' Fortuna" from "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff come to mind (it's prominent in Excalibur, among others. Very popular.) "Ride of the Valkyries" seems an obvious choice, too.

 

If we're gonna do some rock music, let's make it period. Sisters of Mercy, maybe? Old Metallica? Gorky Park? In-a-gadda-da-vidda during the early years?

 

Certainly nothing that sounds "trendy".

 

But that's just me, and I'm well known to be off-kilter.

 

Rob Zombie can pick out a decent soundtrack from older music...

I reckon an original score by Tool/Type O Negative with orchestral accompaniment would fit my idea of the movie.

 

Nice and heavy, gothic, melodramatic with classical undertones. Rar.

I just think that during scenes of Harry comunicating with Deadspeak, there could be some parts of songs from Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here". Not just that song, but from any of the songs from that album, since they are mostly all about someone who's gone now.

I always imagined the deadspeak "channel" sounding alot like being under water. You get all the normal ambient sounds (cars, birds, wind, etc.), but it's distorted and subdued but there, while the voice of Harry and his friend(s) are loud and clear (maybe even slightly OVER-amplified and too-clear.) If somebody tries to talk aloud AND use deadspeak, then you get a wierd cross-talk or echo as the filtered "underwater" sound of the real voice interferes with the faster, clearer deadspeak.

 

Just the way I imagined it.

Couldn't go wrong with a bit of Necrophagia. You never know, they might even like to write Dragosani's theme . "Necrophagia's - Necromancer!"?

Think the whole of Slayer's Reign in Blood should do it! Eerie (or is that Aerie) sh*t!! Angry stuff. Appropriate themes for any scene. :mad: Heh heh.

yeah and celine dion it's the way forward... get leo dicaprio as harry and winslet as brenda... mix it up with the ebranch trilogy so you have a boat, and then you could have leo and winslet standing at the front of the boat, with celine dion singing in the back ground... thinks that's good?

I guess I picture it a little differently. I'd go more for a "Bladerunner" feel to the music. Not so much known songs, but rather "sounds and effects" that enhance a scene. Just my .02

I agree with Hempy, however my idea would be something like Jeff Wayne's musical adaption of War of the Worlds minus the narrative, just a blend of different music and sounds.

Think I've broached this subject once before - but purely for Tops' benefit - Disposable Heroes from MOP by Metallica seems violent enough a track to be included. (Tops - Spoonerisms. For Master Of Puppets, read 'Fozzy Bear's Vicar'!! ie, Pastor of Muppets!) I am not a well person.

And last but not least when the goodies are doing some Vampire slaying, some choice Muse tracks should suffice.
