February 3, 200719 yr comment_34542 I started with the original Necroscope novel this time last year, and I've just finished turning the very last page of the E-Branch trilogy, Avengers. What a ride! I absolutely loved Avengers, and I didn't want it to end. I must admit: I quite nearly loathed Jake Cutter as the Necroscope in Invaders. But by Avengers, I was quite pleased with his transition, most of it anyway. I was so intrigued by Lord Szwart and his constant metamorphism. I'm just a little bit pissed that I somehow skipped over the Lost Years volumes...I'll get onto them next. But I wish I'd read them in order, especially knowing how the E-Branch trilogy ends. Then it's onto The Touch and Titus Crow. Excellent body of work, Brian. Your Necroscope is awesome... Report
March 4, 200719 yr comment_34806 I've read the original five novels many times and the Vampire World series a few, but I'd never really re-read the Lost Years or the E-Branch trilogy until now...and I could kick myself. The latter books are brilliant, I don't miss Harry at all (well, not much). I think Ben, David, Ian, Lardis and then Liz and Jake are great characters. I always hoped we'd get a "Vampire Earth" type series where the Wamphyri! have managed to get a real foothold in our world. It would be great to see how Ben and the Branch would have dealt with that situation. Not read the Touch yet, but pre-ordered and looking forward to startin that in April. Report
March 8, 200719 yr comment_34888 Creature I don't really think you're missing out by knowing how it ends when you read the Lost Years as it was set way before the e-branch stuff and before the Vampire World trilogy. You are, however, missing out by not reading them though, they are fantastic and I recommend you start reading them as soon as you possibly can! Report
March 8, 200719 yr comment_34892 Mh...I loved the lost years... i am on them again right now... Well...I think reading the lost years is important to understand all of that Castellano vendetta...or has it been directly mentioned that he was more or less the last Ferenczy..(despite he didn't know it)? I mean he was/is the Grandgrandson of Waldemar Ferrenzig Report
March 9, 200719 yr Author comment_34893 I'm actually in the middle of Lost Years vol.1 right now. Oh, let me tell you I'm loving it! So exciting to get back to Sunside/Starside. And the only thing I like as much a vampires is werewolves, and this Lord Radu Lykan I very much like. I don't get the sense that's he's this bloodthirsty, unrelenting creature who's let his leech take full ascendancy. Radu seems to have retained much of his human emotions. I really feel empathathetic to Radu and all his woes, even after he'd become Wamphyri. But I think Brian makes us feel sympathy for some of the Wamphyri, as well as hatred and anger for other. But this Radu I feel has been dealt a shiddy deck of cards! When reading the E-Branch trilogy, I wondered why Harry had a vendetta against Castellano, and why Jake was so driven to resolve it, besides some of the more obvious reasons...This and the fact that I'm now going back to The Lost Years knowing that many of the key players have already been vampirized. But in my opinion, I'm not sure we would need a Vampire Earth series. I think the picture was pretty much pregocnitively painted at the end of Avangers! Report
March 9, 200719 yr comment_34901 It's funny you should say that Radu retained part of his humanity, as like Canker who I loved just as much also had this slightly more human part to his in human nature. But I always felt you were meant to think it was there human side that clung on but in fact I felt it was actually the animal part of them that clung on and gave them this almost appealing side. I always felt that Brian was showing us how humans are flawed and no matter who we are where capable of evil were as animals the so called lesser beings are pure and only driven by basic instincts......I dont know for a fact thats what he was getting at as I've never asked even though I meant too, well I may have already asked but the demon drink has robbed me of the memory......I'll have to ask him at the gathering about this me thinks..... March 19, 200719 yr comment_34960 Cheers ears...It was just something that struck me about those 2 people in particular and that they weirdly had this almost endearing quality about them... Report
March 19, 200719 yr comment_34964 Yeah Helmet, I think thats a good way to look at it. Canker is someone I,ve always liked, even though he is supposed to be evil. Report
