Posted February 7, 200718 yr comment_34575 Greetings. I just started reading Titus Crow Vol.1, The Burrowers Beneath. It's a tad difficult for me to follow what with all the reference to other books and tomes, and other Great Old Ones and Cthulhuian Bretheren. I almost feel like I've missed something... Kind of like I've started reading in the middle of a story, and I should definately know more of what's going on. Is this book a good place to start? By the way...I've not even read any HPL! I know, I know. Blasphemy! But I had these book sitting unopened for too long, and they were beckoning me. I'd greatly appreciate any direction any of you more knowledgeable folk might have to offer.
February 7, 200718 yr comment_34582 I read the Complete Crow first then the 6 books starting with Burrowers then I read the Hero and Eldin books then I read the Khash books and I didn't have too much of a problem, I've probably read some out of order and miss a few shorts but hey ho I'll read em all at some time or another...
February 7, 200718 yr comment_34584 I'd hold off on Elysia until you've read Hero and Eldin and the Tarra Khash stuff. A good place to also start would be with HP Lovecraft, although it's difficult to say which is the best to read... Personally though, I'd start with Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos - my favourite intro to the world of Cthulhu. That's got me thinking...
February 11, 200718 yr comment_34629 Read Lovecraft! I would start with "The Call of Cthulhu" and then...read all of his other stories concerning this theme
September 4, 200916 yr comment_39825 I just read over half of the Library of America H.P. Lovecraft collection! I wish I had read it prior to enjoying Brian Lumley, It was very cool to see, in reverse, Lovecraft's influence on our venerable literary hero! i myself began writing this year. I believe I posted a large portion somewhere on this forum, and am glad to see it must have been erased. It was crap! But I am getting better at it. I started Brian Lumley with Deadspeak IV, then Necroscope I, II, III, V, Then Blood Brothers, then Found Hero Series, Demogorgon, Then Psychomech series/House of Doors, THEN Fruiting Bodies and Other Fungi, The Lost years, then Avengers/Invaders/Defilers(great treat!), then The Touch, then Khai of Khem, OH MAN I FORGOT! I read the Titus Crow stuff way back too. Now, I have a nearly complete collection, several autographed novels, including the limited print Hardback Necroscope with case, etc. CHEERS! Just pick one up and read! You will find your way.
September 4, 200916 yr comment_39830 You've been trawling to find this old thread! I read Lumley before Lovecraft and know what you mean. It was great to go back and find where certain inspirations came from, places, themes, characters etc. In keeping with the thread I think I read some of the short stories first but not sure about that, then The Burrowers. I read Clock of Dreams, Spawn of the Winds and In the Moons of Borea before the Transition of Titus Crow because that one was hard to find and this was before the omnibus came out!
September 7, 200916 yr comment_39874 I own Several copies of the entire Titus Crow books, in hardcover AND paperback: 1st editions! Amazon dot com. I even bought an English 1st Edition of a few Brian Lumley books online. There are many resources out there. Find a copy of Demogorgon for $0.01. I owe Brian Lumley a lot, for inspiring me to keep reading, and then begin writing.
