March 8, 200719 yr comment_34883 Anyone tried this? If so, does it work? http://www.mailwasher.net/ Although I haven't given it to anyone my "real" email addy which only I have and Shadoe has has been gotten a hold of. You know when your server allows you with x amount of names before the @ ... while after the @ is your real server info... Well, I'm humongous amounts of bounced mail with stupid stuff before the @ ... like jjjj@ jklzy@. It's really annoying. I've in the past had Shadoe use site addresses like brian@ (which is dead now by the way) and have them forwarded to my real addy. It's much easier to have him change the name before the @ when spams grow to a really annoying figure. I started with this Freeserve account donkeys years ago, then Wanadoo took over and now Orange. No problems before Orange took over but now that some has gotten hold of the real info after the @ I don't know what to do. My last resort would be to call Orange up and have the addy after the @ changed but that will be hassle I won't deal with unless absolutely necessary. So, my point ... has anyone tried this Mail Washer program? Or can someone recommend one that won't interfer with my actual mail programs? Supposedly you use this program from your server before you download mail. You send a message to the spammer which makes it look like your address is dead ... in other words it bounces back to them. Sound very good in theory... Report
March 9, 200719 yr comment_34902 Hi Silky, I've gone a completely different route for my mail... I get so much spam to main email address (tom@shearer....) that I had to take quite drastic action. As you will know I owm my domain, and can do pretty much anything I like with it. I was offered a free service from Google to manage my mail for me. All I needed to do was repoint my MX records to google, and I get all goodness of GMAIL for all of the addresses I use for family members - and I also get their spam filtering, which is really good - although I still get spam, it's not about 95% of my mail which it once was. Oh, and I can still access the mail online (using the gmail interface), and it keeps all the spam I have collected All pop and smtp settings are allowed to view mail through Thunderbird (or another mail program you may like). If Shadoe wanted to use this service for the bl.com emails, he knows he can contact me off the site to do this He might be able to, he might not - it depends on how configurable the service is!!! I doubt I've helped you here, but I'm just letting you know what I do! Thanks, Tom Report
