Hi there, I first discovered Brian Lumley's works a little while back when reading stories from the Cthulhu Mythos, and, enjoying his style, deceided to buy a copy of Necroscope.

 

Well I'm so glad I did! I read it within three days, brilliant book! The second in the series is on its way to me in the post and I'm going to invest in the Titus Crow Novels also. I believe I've got a lot of enjoyable reading to come! The most amazing thing is how I didn't discover his work sooner - I mean, he is originally from the same north-east former mining colliery that I live - Horden (or Harden if you like!) and obviously I found Necroscope all the more enjoyable considering that part of it is set where I live and the hero Harry Keogh is from there!

 

I'm a constant reader of Stephen King, but I have to say that although Brian's style isn't the same, it is just as good and no less riviting, in fact Necroscope was the most enjoyable read Ive had in a long time - you have a new fan Mr Lumley.

Well, I welcome you to the boards. Hope you will enjoy the Necroscope series.

Welcome aboard. You are in for a treat, the Necroscope series is amazing, and if you like Cthulhu you'll love the Titus Crow series.

 

Shame on Horden/Harden for not having more publicity for a local hero, you would have heard of him sooner then!

I have a feeling that Brian Lumley's works are not as widely known as they should be...but hopefully the Necroscope movie will rectify that.

I too may have the power of precognition, I see a pattern forming here. You will be so blown away by Necroscope (the further in you go the wider your eyes become) that you'll not be able to understand why he's not better know and you'll make it your personal mission to try and introduce everyone you've ever met to the work of Brian Lumley.

 

Whether you intend it to be a mission or not it will become one because you just won't be able to stop yourself talking about it, asking if anyone's read it, then when they say no recommending it because you really want someone else to talk to about the best bits!

 

Let us know if this happens, and if it does and you have no one to talk to about it feel free to post your thoughts - we'll all know what you're on about here!

Hey 'Called! I'm currently living in Seaham (and originally from Sunny Sunderland), so I'm not too far from Horden. Found my way to Mr Lumley's work by through his short story series. Quite a few of them were either based in or inspired by our rugged coastline and locales (you can take the PitYakker out of the village...). You might want to check them out if you haven't already.

 

Great to read those short stories and actually BE there... was cause for some very evocative bus journeys from Sunderland to Peterlee for me when I was reading Fruiting Bodies and Dagon's Bell...

Hey every-bloody. I'm new to the forum as well, but not new to the genius that is Mr Lumley. I truly love his books. The first one I ever read was Necroscope. I've only got as far as Vampire World III. I can't put into words how good the Vampire world’s books are. All of Brian’s books are top notch, but the three Vampire world books are fantastic. As are the adventures of Mr Crow.

 

I read a fair amount. It's my favourite pass-time. So I've made my way through a fair amount of books. Fantasy/Horror/Sci F fi are the books I most enjoy. Brian Lumley is without a doubt my favourite Author, closely followed by Patrick Rothfuss. Both of them write so, so, so well. I look forward to catching up on the books I haven’t read yet.

Welcome marky, and badmushroom, I havent read that many of Lumleys stories but I will be sure to check them out, as he is fast becoming my fav author. At the moment I'm halfway through 'the source' excellent series so far and I cant remember wanting to read as fast to find out what happens next then when I first started the Necroscope series. I will read them all then seek out his other works.

 

And good to hear of the North-East presence!

Aye, the North East, there are a fair few of us indeed - I too hail from the North East. Not quite as north as you guys but Yorkshire is still in the NE region.
