Something puzzles me

Featured Replies

wasnt sure where to post this thread...so i just started a new one

The E-branch saga...I loved the ending our world turned into a vampire world..But I know Lumley can do more...

How long will it take for vampires not under Ebranch begin to act out...in what ways ( what if E-Branch no matter how prepared to battle there own insatiable appetite) cant..

My thinking is no human is perfect ...we know this...Lumleys Vampires love WAR... So what if a war breaks out between ebranch members (Dissention in the ranks) i know they say we wont

and even Harry fought it to the end ( he wasnt full fledged vampire for that long..he hadnt lived centuries)

I do hope Mr Lumley has more for us cuz the end of that last book was very open

I love that the ending is open. Sure I'd love more Necroscope even more and really would like more about the vampire future, but I think it was a great ending with enough answers to point you to where you should be, but not enough to give everything away leaving room for your own imagination.

well shoot...would he let us write it? :D

(almost serious)

I tried writing..Its not easy...switching back to a narrative, from first person to 3rd person ( its really tricky) plus it helps if u have actually been to the places you are trying to write about

Me and a friend where going to write something...Take for example Al Hazred ( Yes the mad arab) The ending of the world predictions for 2012 and the cult of Cthulu

we where going to write an actual book...You know how they say The followers of chtulu have forgotten or dont remeber why they feel his pull on them as hetries to summon them to awaken him?

we where going to do something...Descendents of these followers through the years have invested money into companies technological advancements. to get to the oceanic deeps to open the gate to let Cthulu back into our world. Bringing about its end. ( Al Hazred would have been resurected in our time frame. our hero) even tried to americanize ebranch (a little) I love that Lumley thought E Branch..this would have been its american counter part..

It hasnt been scrapped...I have bits and peices here and there saved

but honestly how do you describe an area along the gaza strip if you havent been...Ultimatly Im waiting to take a few creative writing courses to try it again at a later time

and then the question is back to the original "Do you think he would let us pick up a story where he left off?"

I think he might if the story was strong enough and the writing good enough after all mr Lumley's first stories where Lovecraftian, an author to whom many writers have based their literary works

No...i wouldnt blatantly plagerise

we still arent certain if our design for Al would have been hero or villian...

I always got a kick out michael Moorcocks "Eternal Champion" saga's

even 2 books where all the authors wrote stories with his characters cuz he inspired them to write

Maybe something like that..by the way harry and the pirates is a pretty good book...( I got it yesterday in the mail didnt put it down till just now like within10 minutes)

so much to catch up to...

Its possible that they could have had internal wars who knows...but i think since the majority of Earth were vampires then it was definately possible for wars to pick up...I don't think the ending in the final book Avengers was a happy ending...who knows what was going on outside the classroom during that time...

As for writing your own story...well remember to get permission first...

Though Vampires it seems like everyone is doing vampires now...Just remember their are good writers who write Vampire stories out their...I count Brian Lumley as number 1 followed by Anne Rice at 2...Vampire Diairies at number 3...

Twilight...good for younger audiences in my opinion though its only for teenage girls who want to fall in love with Robert Pattinson...

True Blood...Good show couldn' get into the books...

Bram Stokers Dracula...Never read the book seen the movie version it was very good movie...Gary Oldman version....

For the older writers nope never read them...As for movies about Vampires well now thats alot of movies i've seen...to name a few..

Blade 1-3

Blood Angels

Bloodrayne

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Movie) and (Show) Angel

Dracula (Oldman Version) Dracula 2000

From Dusk Til Dawn 1-3

Interview with a Vampire/QOTD

Salems Lot (New Version and Old)

The Breed

The Lost Boys 1 and 2

30 Days of Night

Underworld 1 and 2

Vampire Hunter D 1 and 2

plus a few others...

I find it interesting that a person who enjoys vampire tales hasn't read Dracula or any of the older vampire stories. Also with the films, the one's you've listed are all pretty modern. You may have seen some of the older ones as you said you've seen more than that list but what about the old Universal Pictures Dracula with Bela Lugosi, or some of the numerous Hammer Horrors that are cheesey but delightful?

I'm going to tell myself off here for going off topic now, this kind of chit chat really isn't anything to do with Necroscope anymore!

never seen the old ones actually...oldest i got is the original vampire hunter d...as for going off topic...it happens...sometimes its a good thing but others its not

I remeber e-mailing Brian a few days after I finished Avengers back in 2002 & venting my frustration at his ending, how un-happy I was with it and that I'd convinced myself of Harry's re-birth through Jake's unborn vampire child and now it was done there wouldn't be anymore.

Brian kindly took the time to e-mail me back explaining that although we don't always want a good thing to end it has to eventually, as it just becomes scabby and rotten and begins to get a bit smelly (his words not mine)

I guess he was saying he was happy with it and wouldn't want to continue just for the sake of it, all in all Brian's Necro saga is a phenominal body of work that he wrote over 20+ years and in many respects is quite frankly brilliant (IMHO) to taint it for the sake of just carrying on would be pointless.

Savour & enjoy what we got and use your imagination for gaps if you want to.

As for Brian letting others continue his works, I doubt that would be a goer as he's always seemed reluctant for others to take up his works, and don't forget the Chthulu cycle of works are very different and massive in scope, making it easier for others to play and create stories in them that are only mildly connected to the master body of work.

I'd ask Brian if I were you and see what he says, you never know he may well go for it

We're all off topic now!

But I will say if you are able to go to the World Horror Con next year in Brighton you will have the oportunity to meet him. If you're not based in England it might be difficult but well worth it if you can get over.

And Helm, I hadn't actually read any of your other posts at that point - and I take it back you are not at all sensible!

Sorry to come late to this thread.

"Do you think he would let us pick up a story where he left off?"

I doubt it. I broached the idea of creating some Necroscope fan lit a few years ago and Brian was quite adamantly against it. Quite reasonably he wants to protect his body of work against hacks.

My suggestion is to use his work as an inspiration but start afresh. Go back to the old literature: John Polidori's "The Vampyre"; Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla"; Montague Summers' "The Vampire His Kith and Kin" and find your own angle.

For instance, I've been considering the original vampire hunters. Who were they? What was their motivation in digging up coffins and defiling corpses? Were they earnestly fighting demons or just con men looking for a quick buck?
