January 21, 201015 yr comment_41154 If you have a first edition, on one of the pages at the front (usually the very first page with writing on, it but not always) there will be a sequence of about 10 numbers. If it's a first edition the last number will be 1. This is the best way to check. Also, if it's not a first edition it will often say on that page somewhere "first published in 1998 by whatever publisher" or something like that. Occasionally they are very good and do actually write on that page that it is a first edition - but not very often!
