Just a new thread to see who's watching what at the mo, filmwise... recent discoveries you wanna share, new purchases, recommendations etc!

Just bought a film I'm saving for the weekend, another Tartan Asia Extreme film! Yup, it takes Japanese gore and subtitles to really catch my interest at the moment!

This one is called The Happiness of the Katakuris... anyone seen it? Supposed to be a cross between The Sound of Music and Dawn of the Dead! The hills are alive with the sound of screaming...!

Not been watching too many films of late .... I got hold of a few David Attenbrough DVD boxsets a couple of months ago (Life on Earth, Trials of life etc etc) so when I've had a spare hour or so I've been working through those little treasures.....

I like the sound of the film you've mentioned GG... inspiring me to have a dvd gorefest soon...

I'm on a Bad Film vibe at the moment... Recently watched Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter (yup) and Buckaroo Banzai in the Eighth Dimension.

Oh and Ice Pirates (starring Robert Ulrich if you doubt its naffness from the title).

imdb anyone of them - I just can't get enough diabolically naff celluloid!

Power Puff Girls the movie - Very ashamed to say I loved it.

28 Days Later - Really enjoyed it

Shrek 2 - Loved it

Haven't had the chance to watch much of anything lately. But the last movie I remember watching was "Frailty" That show is hilarious, if you haven't seen it, you need to!

I,m not a big movie buff,I,m kind of disappointed in most films I see, but I still do enjoy a lot of them. Nothing comes to mind right now.

I would like to ask, maybe a stupid question,if any one saw the Evil Dead Series?

Buckaroo Banzai isn't that the one were the kids are playing a video game which is actually a recruiting device for some sort of space corps? Not that I've seen it, I'm just guessing!

EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD??? EVIL DEAD???

yep... up there in my all time top 10. The second film is by far the best, and probably the best film ever made - I'm not kidding, but there aren't too many people out there who whould agree with this, but I know they couldn't disagree with the fact that there is nothing in that film that doesn't need to be there, and some of the slapstick is the best I have ever seen

Rixy...

Bukaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension came out in 1984 and is something of a cult... It stars Peter Weller, Clancy Brown, Ellen Barkin, Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd and a bunch of others...

The titular Banzai is a Rock Star/Neurosurgeon/Racing Driver/Theoretical Physicist/Sharp Shooter who figures out a way to make his car travel through solid rock via the 8th Dimension... Trouble is the 8th Dimension was a prison for an Alien Despot and his cronies and now they've escaped and the President (who's put his back out) needs Banzai to stop the despot escaping from Earth or else the people who put him in the 8th dimension will destroy the Earth and they only have 24 hours in which to do it!

*And Breath*

Worth watching once if only for some of the great lines.

EVIL DEAD Dead by dawn.

I agree with you Tops on all points and I know a few others who would also agree.

I would put #2 a little highed then top 10,maybe top 3.

To be honest I thought they were stupit the first time I watched them, but

only the first time.

I have to mention the best scene.

THE POSSESSED HAND.

I'm rolling just typing this.

I agree, the possessed hand is also a favourite of mine!

Recently been watcing Red Dwarf 4, Shaun of the Dead, Shrek 2 and Sex lives of the Potato men. All amusing.

the possessed hand is superb, especially when he (yeah I'm rolling out this old one again) put the bin on top of it, then the book, "A farewell to arms"

I've went and got the special edition of the original Universal Monster movies, Dracula, Frankenstien and the wolfman. Cool to watch them all over again. Heard that Universal will be coming out with a box set of Creature from the black lagoon, Invisible Man and the Mummy. I wish you could get the Hammer films in a DVD box set.

Good films there Canker ... we are pretty lucky this side of the pond, with a number of Hammer Film boxsets available.

... has anyone of you guys watched Kingdom Hospital? I didn't catch it on the tv, but notice the DVDs available now -- it seems to be a little Twin Peakesque, but I read quite a few negative reviews in the press.... not sure if its worth the £35 outlay.

Another TV series about to get the DVD treatment is Life and Loves of the She Devil, which I recall watching when I was younger and remember it was quite freaky -- not sure if it will have dated but it'll be far better than the film version, based on the Fay Wheldon novel.

I tried to watch Kingdom Hospital, but I don't think they could decide on a set day or time to air it, on this side of the world anyway, so I could not keep track.

I watched Equilibreum (spelling?) recently. Slow start but it picked up, rather Matrixy feel to it. Some good fight scenes, I enjoyed it.

last thing I saw was the Bourne ID.. not bad... hopefully see the highly rated sequel this weekend... just waiting for Jurassic Park 4 right now - if they do what the rumours say, it could be completely mad...

Cheers Phil, I got mixed up with The Last Starfighter for some reason. I'm going to have a lie down and see if that clears my head.

I am awaiting with bated breath Shaun of the Dead arriving through the post.... also just seen the remake of Starsky and Hutch, which I have to admit to really enjoying...... I've just ordered from play.com the original series first season for only £15.99... so that should arrive on my mat very soon as well.....

I have been watching quite abit of the Horror Channel lately, some real gems from the 70's in there. Bloody Birthday springs to mind....

Got my Shaun of the Dead DVD on Saturday, but haven't had time to watch it yet, as I bought the Spaced box-set last week, been working my way through that... yup having a major Simon Pegg moment!

George & I saw Alien vs Predator & Hero this past weekend. Also saw Blade II he had on dvd. All 3 were good, but out of them all, Hero was my fav. Very artistic as Japanese (I think, maybe it was Chinese) movies are, Jet Li was the only name I recognized and it had subtitles. Good Action & storyline(s) too that had color changes with each part. Recommend that one highly. Was going to see Exorcist - the Beginning or the Village, but reviews I have seen and heard on both made us just wait for dvd rental and not waste the 11 buck a pop sans munchies. Next one will be Alexander in November! George saw Troy and although a few discrepancies (heh heh he is Greek!), he enjoyed it.

Watched Shaun of the Dead, this film is brilliant - can't believe I left it so long to watch....

Has anyone watched the extras? the missing plotlines? And TV Bits with Tricia!!!-CLASSICS!!

Gonna watch the whole thing this weekend, extras, commentary, the lot!

Just ordered Battle Royale 2 and Dark Water, so lots more Japanese goodness (or should that be badness?!) to come.

And I'm going to see Hellboy on Saturday!
