Saw Land of the Dead last night - Asia looks great and the film was pretty good in a cheesy way...

 

Great to see Simon Pegg in a cameo too!

No Russian vampires after all, technical difficulties. Fortunately there were Japanese and Korean weird films to fill the void.

Damn dodgy DVDs from Hawaii!

 

The filmage was Gozu on Friday night ("got milk..."!) and Old Boy on Saturday night, one of the bestest films ever. Lady Vengeance, by the same director, is out now on DVD and has been getting great reviews.

 

I rather enjoyed Silent Hill... is it just me, or were the zombie girls rather sexy?

 

And just ordered The Libertine... looking forward to this!

Watched night watch last night, very good, bizarre and certainly not what I expected but Id definitely recommend it, the fact that its dubbed really doesnt matter, you get stuck in and hardly notice. I look forward to the next two.

Eeuw - milk! But as I've said before, nothing puts me off food, or drink, just as long as I know where it came from!

 

Actually the milk wasn't the worst part, it was the noises that accompanied the milk!

well the thing is I enjoyed it, but knew I shouldn't. it's bad in a rather good way... I think it could have been better... I think they made a couple of mistakes that would have made it nastier... and the fact they left it open in a freddy way was a cop out....

Silent Hill was good....but confusing to the two I went with. The ending anyway. They were a bit squeamish too. Silly men.

 

It was gory, it was scary (in a surprise ya sort of way), it was loud. Me liked a lot. As for the ending, I don't really see it as a copout. If they don't make a SH2, it's a perfect ending because it leaves questions and confusion and makes it all that much creepier. If there is a SH2, the ending is a very good lead-in to it.

 

 

The Aristocrats is HILARIOUS. Anyone who likes dirty humour and comedy in general would like this flick. It's done documentary style (well, it is almost a documentary) but it doesn't leave you wanting. However, don't watch this with someone who doesn't like dirty/raunchy humour, they really won't like it.

I finally watched Saw 2 last week..omg I could have vomitted lol but I really enjoyed Mind Hunters ...not too gory and a good story..

Finally saw Lady Vengeance at the weekend, the final film in Park Chan-Wook's revenge trilogy (Old Boy and Sympathy for Mr Vengeance being the other two). Very good film, although still not quite as good as Old Boy (but a lot better than SfMV, which was a bit too slow). The Koreans do nasty so well!

ok - here is the Wolfe's update on the last few films I have caught.

 

King Kong - Nicely done, but too long. My ass hurt by the time I got out of the show and I was in a theater with nice seats. The action was great and the CG was done beautifully, but the end was just too ridiculous. There is no way anyone could stand at the top of the Empire State building and not get blown off from the winds. Although, having said that, there's no way an ape would wrestle with dinopsaurs either, so I guess I should kinda expect it.

 

Silent Hill - went in with high expectations and left withan empty feeling. Too many holes in the plot, too many things not explained. And from what I've read online, it didn't even stay that true to the video game, but not having played it, i can't say. The effects were nice, but that was the high point of the film.

 

MI3 - had to see it even though it pained me helping support psycho-boy Cruise. The action scenes were intense and nicely shot, but there was too much love story for it to be a "spy movie." Although, I went back and rewatched the first two movies and that idiot Hunt got himself into trouble in each movie because of women. You would think he would have learned.

 

X-Men 3 - Absolutely amazing. Just saw it last night as well as the midnight showing on Thursday night. This is the first movie I have seen twice in the theater since the Episode ! came out, and that was just because I hadn't had a Star Wars fix in so long. The storyline is good in Xmen and the effect and action are eye-catching. Wolverine shows us how the regenerative process for the Wamphyri can be done very realistic now. If you haven't seen it yet - make sure you wait through the credits. There is a bonus scene you don't want to miss!

 

Ok - i think that wraps me up for the last few months on my movie watching. Looking forward to Pirates of the Carribean 2 next month. I'll let you know how that one runs if I remember to!

I watched X3 last Thursday and loved it but left before the credits finished .. I'll just have to go back and see it again . I'm also looking forward to Pirates 2,the new trailer was fantastic, as was the Superman trailer.

Ah bugger I left early too, good film though

 

Funny you should mention Wamphryi Dave, eveytime Jean Grey did her pheonix thingy I was reminded of how Wamphryi women could be done.

The whole turning from stunningly beautiful to hideous was pretty good...

I finally got around to seeing Silent Hill this weekend. I thought it was good considering it came from a video game. Atleast it did manage to have some suspense thrown in, unlike most game movies I have seen. The story while interesting did seem rather video game-ish, but it still worked. I did not have any expectations going in and I was entertained. I think it is worth seeing once, though once may be all.

I wish that people making movies from video games would look back through film history and learn the lesson that could be learnt from the super mario brothers film

Recently watched The Bides of Dracula and Horror of Dracula, gotta love hammer!

She doesn't normally watch horror flicks. She just happened to be in the room when myself and my horror-loving aunt were watching it. She couldn't or just wouldn't get up and stop watching. Needless to say, she wasn't pleased that she watched it, but for whatever reason wouldn't stop. I'm guessing she won't even try to watch the first.

 

Forgot to mention: watched Transporter 2, The Visitation and the tv-adaptation-movie of Koontz's Frankenstein. The first was amusing to say the least. Extremely over-the-top. The second was stupid. The third was pretty much the first book on screen. Has the third book in that series even come out yet?

Memoirs of a Geisha... wow, how beautiful is that film! Just finished reading the book a few days ago which helped, but WOW!

Yeah GG, wasn't that a good movie? I read the book when it first came out and thought it would make a good one. Interesting how different cultures work and how a person being narrow-minded would think of them as being nothing but a glorified hooker and not that it was a much better way of life for some women in that time.

 

Gotta say, for beautiful films though, nothing beats the Japanese.

I watched the remake of Dawn of the Dead yesterday. Obviously not like the original besides the fact they are in a shopping mall but I still liked a lot.

 

There's something about zombie films that is funny, it doesn't matter if it's been well done or not they are hilarious!
