This topic (http://www.brianlumley.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=000155) now closed (it is 2005, you know!) Refer to it for the rules if you're new.

Dude! I wadn't sweatin' anyone... It was way past time for a new topic. I just noticed that both these games' thread titles stated the year!

Thanks for clarifying... I forget how complicated the board seems when you first see it. And that not everyone know WTF I'm talking about! grin.gif

I do appreciate you guys keepin' this game going and having fun doing it. It's kinda funny to watch sometimes because someone'll ask a stumper question that could easily be looked up in the old trivia threads! There's like ten of 'em back there in the attic somewhere. smile.gif

So since you're officially shutting down the other thread does that mean it's gone, or are we continuing it here? I hope we're continuing as in the event that I ever get the chance I've got a good question(hehe, got smart and am making a list as I go through the books)SD if it's your go GIVE A QUESTION, would ya?

Yay! I've been waiting and have had my question all wonderfully prepared for a while now. Just so you know, Sd, I'm sure that was meant to be something of a stumper, and it likely would have been except for the fact that I had just finished my re-read of Necroscope yesterday afternoon. So here goes my question.
After Ustinov's betrayal Borowitz is to present his case to a five judge panel, who were the judges on that panel?
To clear up any confusions that may arrive amongst you all I'm looking for the names AND positions (as both are clearly stated in the book).

skinters
January 26th, 2005, 07:26 PM
georg krisich : party central commitee
oliver bellekhoyza, karl dyannov :junior cabinet ministers
yuri andropov K.G.B

not sure if the last 1 is right as you were looking for 5 names also ? ..not sure if the ciphers name was mentioned anywhere else in the book as i couldnt be arsed to look ha haaaaaa

p.s ive jus this second come in here to check if my answer is worthy ,if it is and its my turn please dont think im ignoring any1 coz im on my way to being entoxicated ......or in the words of my fathers .....pissed outta my skull

I don't think that one has, at least not in that particular wording...

Anyway, sh*t, now I gotta come up with a question... let's see... how 'bout one combining both Lumlian and Necroscope Knowledge...?

There's a young man in Return of the Deep Ones who does odd jobs around the place for the narrator. He ends up quite dead. His name is the same as one of Harry's best friends.

Name him.

While I'm sure my question is gonig to be insanely easy, I can't resist answering when I know what the answer is. I've only just began re-reading and it got put on hold for school. So pardon the fact that I'm bubling about but well: I am trying. So my question.

No, Skints it's not in Deadspeak, Sorry. I don't know why it'd be making people blush though! I'll give it another day or two before I go telling which book it's out of. I must admit however I thought it would be easy as I'm just kind of opening a book and looking for something that would be a suitable obscure detail. But, if I land with another quesiton Skints, I'll be sure to ask out of books you're read, to give you an equal shot at getting one.

Skint's you're fine, honest! Do you realize that the whole reason I read Necroscope was because of two scenes in the opening of the first book. The one with Boris ripping that body to shreds and Harry spying on his teachers. That's all it took for me to decide to go on and of course I found it wonderful...
And even though this isn't the right place to do it, yes Anne welcome among us. You should go to the gate then you'll get a proper welcoming from everyone, or not everyone but more than you'll get in here. Techincally speaking, when we don't go off on side tangent converstaions, this is more or less necroscope trivia. And anyone who knows the anwer is welcome to give answering a go. And yes, have fun.

when reading the source, i noticed that brian had used a certain phrase 3 times, and to me it stuck out a mile, and i had to double check past pages that i had read to make sure that the phrase was indeed used to describe certain acts in the book.
a clue to the answer can be found with 1 of brians hobbies, and think the phrase was inspired by it.......what was the phrase ?

Do you mean that the person he has to inhabit has to be blood of his blood and that he would no that they were flesh of his flesh by the obvious mutation in his hands???

And that he would have to lure them into a trap which would trigger the ashes in his urn through blood, to form back into the leach and enter his victim???

And that his victim was George Vulupe a decendent of Janos

Jade Rose
March 4th, 2005, 03:04 AM
Now, I thought it was a good question. Am I really that BAD with my question's Skints. Honestly, I'm trying to give out good questions, and sometimes I think it's stuff that's absolutely basic yet you all complain. As to a devious mind, I have two younger brothers and for years was the only girl in a group of guys. I had to learn to defend myself somehow... and what's wrong with having a good mind anyway! I'm kind of a writer so I'm laying the blame down there. Ha!
And yes Helm, you've got it. You gave more than I asked for even! I wasn't looking for the leech resurection, though I guess that's what it was. AHH... MUST reread soon(as soon as I finish thesis reading that is!) and that it was Vulpe. I searched over the book trying to find him. Grr. So, since you got the hand disfiguration and the descendent and that his blood was needed and that's what I was looking for, you've got it. Hey, with bonus points!

Ahhh, okay. It's actually been awhile since I've read the books. I read Necrosocpe not to long ago but then we got this confounded stupid senior thesis bullcrap that's so seriously kicking my butt right now. Of course I can't resist my computer when my brother steals my room so thusly I end up in his room which has the computer and I get distracted... like now. And okay, if you say my questions aren't bad. As to your last one, it would have been okay if your hint helped me. BUT there was NOTHING the same between those two pages, so I figure you must not be using Tor books like I am...

skinters
March 4th, 2005, 04:15 PM
well considering you aint read the books for so long you have a sharp memory there ;) ,and as for my question having nothing the same between the clues of the pages i gave ,if you have a copy of source you will see there is a certain phrase used ,which was "flopped about like a speared fish" albiet it wasnt used word for word each time and was answered by DC ,which you can find on pages 20, 85, and 332 ;)

The reason why that un stood out as a question from me is that it ties in with brians hobby of spear fishing which can be found on the about page on the site, and think he quite like the phrase

as for not using Tor books . do you refer to the publisher tom doherty ,who did the U.S versions ;) and if the phrase "flopped like a speared fish was left out or replaced, thas quite interesting

yo jade that confounded bullshit thesis your on ,they do say a change is as good as a rest dont let em get the better of you ;) grin.gif .....peace

I couldn't find anything about that on pgs.20, 85, & 332 of the US novels.

skinters
March 4th, 2005, 06:35 PM
ok TOR published the U.S necros and i was enlightened by what jade said

and as DC is from the uk and i presume he has the uk version , i find it intresting the wording has been changed ,and if that is indeed the case why do us brits get fish flopping and you U.S guys dont grin.gif

source uk version on page 20 it says : simonov tried to bring his gun to bear .Useless-there was no feeling in his hand ,which (flopped like a speared fish )

page 85 : The left side of the soldiers head was caved in and the hooks of the gauntlet caught in the broken bones of his skull. The intruder held him upright for a moment,(flopping uselessley like a speared fish )

page 332 : The finial was the eyetooth of the creature whose massive jaw formed the throne;it entered the traitors mouth and came out at the top of his skull,so that he kneeled there and (flopped about like a speared fish.)

so where the above phrases begin and end instead of getting speared like a flopped fish ,what are you U.S guys getting, ? jus a full stop and on to the next paragraph ?

anyways as a certain mr holmes would say its elementary my dear watson....or maybe not ;)

I think I'm just confusing people here, your not meant to take the question in the literal sense. It's not the way the questions phrased thats the important part, the clue to the question is in there but u should break it up.

Who got to the other side of a mirror...(a person doesn't have to walk through a mirror to get to the other side, if one side of the mirror is the front whats on the other side???...) and found a way home??? (a clue perhaps???...)

Hmm.. I'm sure this isn't right and that I'm looking at this the wrong way here, but I'll throw it out there on the off chance. Would it have been Anna Marie English who found a home in starside's earth, which is kind of a mirror to ours via the lake and the gate? I don't know... this whole thinking outside the box thing isn't working well for me...

Right it seems I'm just confusing people here, so I'll try and make it super simple.

The other side of a mirror (if the front is one side then the other is surely the back)

So somebody has found/seen/been given or BEEN SAVED by a mirror and on the back is a clue/pointer as to how he/she/them/anybody might possibbly get home (maybe it's a train ticket you just never know???) grin.gif

Well done Red my dear I can always count on you, that's exactly right Jazz saw that the mirrors were from our Earth and new that if he could find the Dweller he could get home...

Your turn Red...

(p.s. been wondering if my question and clues were a bit obscure and hard to get as they seem dead obvious to me but I know the answer as well which always helps, what did you think???)

Don't be so sure on that one Skints my dear. I'm a lady and I was as stumped as you all are were, heck you lot got closer to it than I did. It just happens that this time around Willow got it in it's entirety before anyone else did that's all... everyone has their strenths and weakness...
Okay, done with that. Good job Willow for getting it for us. Now, what's our new question?

Pete The Vampire who rode him screaming into Starside on a Harley

Zek who gave him shelter before he made his dash

Ben Trask who still had enough beleif in Harry to let him go

That's the only answer I can come up with...

March 25th, 2005, 12:24 AM
Ok, this is definately too cryptic.

And I can't even think of a hint that doesn't give it away too easy.

Hint: The existance of these three beings was enough to create the need for him to leave.

No, it was a good question. Just these cryptic ones are exactly that...cryptic.

Ok, what Szgany woman could heal with her touch?

skinters
March 25th, 2005, 06:40 PM
the only 1 that comes to mind but not sure if she was a healer

marilena ?

Canker
March 25th, 2005, 09:23 PM
The one that comes to mind was Lord Malinari's (spelling) mother.
She was a healer that could cure with her touch but when she was made a Lady her touch worked in reverse and drained her victims the same way.
Hence Malinari's ability to suck information from someone by touching them

Woe woe woe I'll think you'll find that although it seemed like it was Yulian Bodescu who said that, I'm almost certain that it was in fact Thibor through Yulian...

I'm probably just being contensious and argumentative with this one as I'd have to go home and look up the answer for the other question and I'm in work so can't.
It's probably one of them kinda things in the books thats up for your own interpratation and we would probably have to ask Brian what the true answer is.

March 29th, 2005, 06:58 PM
yeah see where your at there helm .At that part of the book it isnt mentioned by brian that it is thibor working through yulian at the christening.

my own thoughts are that every vampire has whithin him remanants of the one he was infected by and yulians vampire which being a faint part of thibor was acting on instinct, and hence the PUT NO CROSS ON ME YOU TREACHEROUS CHRISTIAN DOG .......yes open to interpretation i suppose ;)

by the way helm are you sure your not WAMPHYRI! ,as they to seem to be arguementative ha haaaaaaa ,see what sd makes of it after reading our posts .

anyways its your turn ....it was indeed shaidar shaigispawn who infected shiathis......or was it grin.gif

It's just that number 1 Yulian is a baby and can't talk...

2 although he is infected with vampyrism from before his birth he in no way is Wamphyri then and doesn't blosom in to his true self until much later in life...

And finally 3 "PUT NO CROSS ON ME YOU TREACHEROUS CHRISTIAN DOG" doesn't sound like something a mere infant would say (no matter how evil) and sounds more like something somebody from a much earlier era would say, an ex warlord perhaps...

No matter it don't really matter I just like to argue these little things between us as I like it grin.gif

I shall return with a question in due course...

skinters
March 29th, 2005, 07:47 PM
you like to argue ?..aye then you ARE WAMPYHRI! grin.gif

your right yulian was a baby and couldnt talk, maybe he would have uttered the words himself if he could ,and maybe his telapathy was at work ?

and yes "PUT NO CROSS ON ME YOU TREACHEROUS CHRISTIAN DOG might have indeed past the lips of thibor in his time.

as you say no matter, let us put our differences to one side and help me enjoy the blood of this plump traveller grin.gif

(p.s another WAMPHYRI! trait is to always have the last word )

details details...

no one actually said it, it was all in the vicars mind, the statment, the hallucination, if thats what you want to call it.[ horns coming out of the babies head, jaw elongated, viper's tongue]. it started when the vicar put the holy water on his head and then the sign of the cross.
it very well could have been Thibor speaking through the baby, but it does'nt say that it was.
the end result, he was never truly christened.

It's just that number 1 Yulian is a baby and can't talk

so the baby never really spoke

2 although he is infected with vampyrism from before his birth he in no way is Wamphyri then and doesn't blosom in to his true self until much later in life...

i think the vamphyri was developed enough to have some control [nine + months]

And finally 3 "PUT NO CROSS ON ME YOU TREACHEROUS CHRISTIAN DOG" doesn't sound like something a mere infant would say (no matter how evil) and sounds more like something somebody from a much earlier era would say, an ex warlord perhaps...

it wasn't the mere infant who said it,it was the vamphryi, if not tribor himself

but who knows, Brian knows

Who was the LAST of the Ferenczy's????

(Sneakily grins as writing this ;) ) Yulian never had a leach back then so it couldn't of been the influence of his vampyric talents and I stand firm by the fact that I think it must of been Thibor through the infant, after all he was to be his vessel once he could lure the wayward scamp back to the cruciform hills... grin.gif
