If you have read beyond the Harry Koegh Legacy... What is your favorite "Lumley" story?
#3... The Disapproval of Jeremy Cleave
#2... The Viaduct
(drum roll please)
#1... The Man who Felt Pain
FYI: If you have one favorite please list it... I only listed three because I had to look over them all (and I found several worthy of mention.)

Oh, that's difficult... I love the short stories... but I think it would have to be between:
The Viaduct... there's one part which really makes my stomach churn, which doesn't happen often!
or......
A Really Game Boy... another stomach churner!!
:D

I'm goona have to go with Ema on this one. Demogorgon was excellent.
Short story would have to be Kiss of the Lamia. I've still got many more to get to though. The rest of the Khash stories, my recently aquired Caller of the Black, and my soon to be aquired (hopefully) Beneath the Moors. smile.gif
I'll have to get back to you on this one, I'm quite sure. ;)

Khai of Ancient Khem
It's a toss up between that and the first House of Doors. Khai nudges into the lead as I do enjoy a good torture scene or two.
The consensus amongst those I've spoken to about the novel seems to be that Khai starts slow and doesn't sink its teeth into you until a few chapters in. In fact I can recall the moment of realisation that the book I was reading had shifted out out first gear and was accelerating fast though I was on a train at the time so maybe that had something to do with it. Definately recommmended.
Of the shorter works, I've always favoured Beneath the Moors.

Beneath the Moors the first book I bought off a collector. Expensive, yes, worth it, oh yes.

Fave book is Khai of Ancient Khem. Looking forward to getting hold of the planned TOR re-print of this book, although for a change I hope it doesn't have an Eggleton skull cover.
Short story would be "The Statment of One John Gibson". A short story which appeared in #19 of "Crypyt of Cthulhu" and the 1996 anthology
"The New Lovecraft Circle" edited by Robert M Price.

Excellllllent!
I have read a whole lot of Brian's work, but it looks like I have quite a bit more to read... and from what you guys seem to be saying it will get better.
I haven't read Khai of Ancient Khem yet or Horror at Oakdeene or How Kank Thad Returned to Bhur-Esh or hero of dreams (or any of the Dreamland Series yet)!
Thanks

My favorite non-Necroscope story isn't even written down. It is a story Brian told at a writer's convention in Phoenix, AZ. He was asked, "What scares Brian Lumley?"
The true story he told happened during his military career and involved a dark cellar under the guardpost.
Maybe, with enough cajoling, Brian will one day recount the incident for the Newsletter.
PLEASE, BRIAN??? PLEEEEEEEEZZZZZEEEEEEE!!!

After careful consideration, and loads of reading
I must say my fav so far is Beneath the Moors.
This is of course subject to change as I have some more reading to do this month.
