Ok, Scarlet thought I should give my opinion on Harry, so here it is: drumroll please...........

James Spader - if he can pull off the accent.

You know him from Stargate - the goofy allergy guy in the movie. he has the look - glasses, little gangly - in no way threatening - just like Harry. I think he's even young enough to play the "young adult growing up"

That is my opinion. But here's the kicker - Harry only looked like Harry in the first book. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the series yet, but you know what I mean. Here's the problem with a movie - how do you take a character like Harry whose ID is transferred to someone else and have 2 actors play the same guy and the audience not get confused? Hmmm?

The real question is - Who should play the role of Alec Kyle? James Spader gets the cameo for Harry growing up - you can't deny he has the look - but who plays the Former head of E-Branch in books 3 and on...?

The most important thing is that they don't arse it up by trying to cram tit-bits from 5 different books into 1 hour and a half movie.
Also what about a role for Anthony Hopkins? I thought he was great in dracula!

Shadoe- Never thought of Spader, he might work, though I don't recall him ever playing a character you would like in any of his movies. I guess that waould make him a good actor.

Scarlet- Russell Crowe is currently in the movies Mystery Alaska, ant The Insider.

My question is what else has he done? All of the sudden he seems to be "THE MAN" and before these two movies I don't recall ever seeing him. His role in The Insider, which is going to be a BIG movie is a BIG role. How'd he get it? He does look like a good actor.

And Scarlet, I think I was the only one who has mentioned Mel Gibson (because he lost his accent) but I never considered him for a role in the Necroscope. http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Mobius- Why don't we Lumley fans work as consultants on the movie, answering only to BL? As much as everyone here has adifferent opinion of who should play different characters and which books should be done... we all have a better idea how it should be than some production company looking catering to some cry baby movie star and trying to mass market our product in Happy Meals. We wouldn't arse it up the way Hollywood will!

How about Christopher Walkin as one of the dudes in E-branch? He has that look about him... or maybe that lady.... don't know here name, but she was in that movie 'They Live' with the wrestler Roddy Piper, she has red hair and her eyes are so light they look fake... And, for a Lady later on... don't laugh http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif but the lady from 'The Nanny', she looks kind'a vampirish, of course drop that nasal voice of hers....

Gene Simmons could be a Lord... and also the Kurgan from Highlander...

LOL! You got a point, Rash.... drop Simmons, maybe keep him as a Lieutenant, let him get fed to a warrior or something....

How about Dennis Leary as Laughing Zack?

Christopher Walkin is definitely a choice. the man is in. Gwynnyth Palltro (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) as Zek Foener?

I love her Paltro but zeke is a hard person Gwen is soft not good! Maybe the ecoologist girl? I think Christopher Wilkens would be a great Ben Trask. Maybe not that size but attutide? that is him!

What about Malcolm McDowell if he is still alive as an older looking lord?
I know one actor i would die of fright if he was a lord would be Lee Ermey the DI in Full metal jacket!

Richard E Grant.. Yes, Theres a Darcy Clark... BUT ONE PROBLEM!!

Having Paul McGann (EXCELLENT HARRY CHOICE BY THE WAY!) and Richard E Grant in a Necroscope Movie, would be like watching Withnail & I - exellent movie -

"Whats in your Toolbox?"
"Nothing why?
"Liar! Whats in your toobox? You've got anti freeze"

OOOPS Sorry i got carried away...

BOTH EXCELLENT ACTORS and my choice for Harry and Darcy Clarke!!

Scarlet- I ain't read Invaders yet...I am trying to get to it as fast as I can but if you think Mel would work I'll trust your judgement. I like him as an actor...I just haven't found a role for him yet in this series.

Shadoe: I like the idea of James Spader, personally. Remember him in Wolf? He can sure go from quaint and non-threatening to "rip-your-head-off-and-shove-it-up-your-ass" in no time at all! .. Just like Harry under the right circumstances......

Also, people, speaking of Gene Simmons in there somewhere, what about Glen Danzig? ~grins~ You must admit he has the stature for the part, as well as the voice. Now if only he can act ~blinks~

Another idea would be Rob Zombie.... at least we know he won't have any problem with all the FX make-up!

Krynus: I know what woman you are talking about, but I can't think of her name either. Is it just me or is They Live just not as spectacular as I thought it was? ~blinks~ Hardly anyone has ever heard of it ... ~shrugs~

Vormulac...Glen Danzig? Great! But he is only like 5ft tall hehe. But I do think he is awesome and could pull it off. And Rob Zombie...Did we hang out in high school?
If we could staff it with them, how about a role for King Diamond? Just kidding. And Krynus, you have to stop talking about that woman in They Live. An awsome movie, yes. But she is like fifty something now. I just saw her in a depends commercial. I did see a nude scene with her like 20 yrs ago when I was 11. It changed my life. But now, no way. One more thing, Fran Drescher. If she lost the voice, yes. Beautiful pale skin, lucious lips, long black hair...oh boy!

Beautiful pale skin, lucious lips, long black hair... Kortag, have you been spying on me!

Rashagoth you're right, Malcolm McDowell would be great - I once sat through an entire Star Trek film just because he was in it! I think he's still alive, but does that really matter in a vampire film! http://www.brianlumley.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sorry Scarlet, I've tried real hard to find out that guy's name, but to no avail!

Rashagoth

Which Star Trek? LOve him in CLock Work Orange. LOve Stanley Kubrick! Ever the artist! Oh Val Kimler as Shitias!

Man! This is getting silly.
A movie would be better with (unknowns - if they could act)
If us lot carry on naming actors an rock stars Rob Zombie, Danzig? I ask you, gees..If we aren't careful we are going to end up with the following in a Disney nasty

Danny DeVito as Max batu

Tom Hanks as Tom Hanks eer I mean Harry

Arnie as anyone he wants - a fine actor

Danzig as a cheesy singer Pretending to be hard and scarey

Actually the list is endless, the more I think about this the less I think a film should be made..
Honestly people imagine how disappointed you would be if you found Meg Ryan playing Lady Karen or Sly Stallone as Harry hell - THAT COULD HAPPEN if a film was made...

hmmm

How about Chow Young Fat (<--well that is how it sounds) you know the guy from Replacement Killers as Max Batu
and perhaps Harrison Ford as Sir Keenan Gromely. As for Harry I agree with the guy from Stargate. And suddenly Julia Roderts comes to mind for Bobby Jean and the woman from Termanator as Zek if she is not too old

what the idea is this? People getting mad at other for coming u with actor to play the parts? Come come I know you BLfans didnt go that low. Free thought is that very one an idea. Not matter how bad you think it is. I am hoping to see the happen movie! So i can wow cool i remember that! and to see if BL version of the char. fit closely to what i saw them as. i think you guys are closing your minds to the actors you think would be best and not letting anyone else thing for themselves. I think Russell Crowe and Guy are the best two actors for nestor and nathan.
I think Val Kilmer would be a great Shaitis. Dont judge other thus yee be judge yourslef.

Actually, what I think would be a great way of doing it is Anime, or at least anime-influenced animation. There would be no worries in terms of casting, sets and SFX. Truly fantastic landscapes and effects could be created.

Rashagoth
November 25th, 1999, 11:27 PM
that would be a great mediem for BL work. But what style american anime? or do we go over to japan?

Kenickie
November 26th, 1999, 09:34 AM
Maybe a cross-American-British-Japanese production, or a Western production that gets in japanese people to help, because the Japanese ARE the masters of this craft.
To avoid the dubbing/scripting atrocities that occur when Anime is translated, I think it would have to be made in English for us to enjoy it fully.

Rashagoth
November 26th, 1999, 05:08 PM
I know that would be best I was speaking in the terms of style. Rather than actual places. Because animee is done differnetly in the US vs japan. Also japanese artist make there char. look part american and part japanese as were american make them look like the people from were the story is from.

Hmmm...stuff like X1999 or Akira, hard-edged anime, would be best I think.

Here's an idea, just get Cradle of Filth, the band members, to play the various Lords, and Drain s.t.h. to play the Ladies ~chuckles~

Peter Steele as Shaithis? ~grins~
