With all the newer faces around I thought I'd revive this old game. Here are the rules for those who haven't played...

If you are able to answer a standing question correctly and are then confirmed by the asker, it is then your turn to ask the next question.
Please wait to be confirmed just in case your answer is not complete enough for the asker. (Sometimes answers can be confirmed by others if asker is gone for more than a day or so.)

This thread is for any question about anything Lumley except Necroscope.

There is also a thread for 'Necroscope knowledge' that you can play along with in the Necroscope Saga forum (http://www.brianlumley.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=24).

If you need to look up an answer in the books, go right ahead. But it's more fun if you don't...

First question...

You all know Graham Lane from Harry's childhood in Necroscope... who can tell me who the guy with the same name is and what happened to him?

Nathan
March 9th, 2004, 06:20 PM
This one's kinda tough so here's a quick hint... it's from a short. Not a short story, but a short novel.

smile.gif

Nathan
March 10th, 2004, 06:30 PM
Need another hint?

The first three words of the story's title where the answer can be found are the same as the first three words of a recent record-tying Oscar Winner.

I've now guessed the story N8, but alas I haven't read it so I'm afraid I won't be able to answer this one.

I love threads like this, the deep ones are always the best.

Are you licensed to use puns like that? tongue.gif

Nathan
March 11th, 2004, 05:50 PM
I don't believe he is, Pyb! But why didn't you answer it, since you recognized the pun? tongue.gif

But he is allowed to skim through the story and find the name! Maybe even read the thing!

Apparently somebody's gonna have to! grin.gif

Nathan
March 19th, 2004, 06:15 PM
Okay, so nobody?

Here, I'll throw out an easier one until y'all catch up on your reading. tongue.gif

What was the first anthology Brian's work appeared in, who was the publisher, who was the editor, what was the story, and in which year was it published?

ok, here's a big clue... it was published by Arkham House.

yodas_flunkie
April 6th, 2004, 07:19 AM
was it The Caller of The Black? cant think of the editor right now.

topol_sheap
April 6th, 2004, 01:14 PM
Nope, I didn't mean a collection of Brian's work, but a worthy guess, and the editor of Caller of the Black is the same guy...

I should probably, note that my question is a bit of a trick one... being there are 2 strories by BL in this anthology. I will however except one of 2 answers, being that the anthology was reprinted in the early 90's as an anniversary edition.

Cheers,

Tops

I know the anthology, publisher (kind oif a given considering the august editor), the editor and even the year - I can't remember the titles though... I know where I could look them up but I'm determined to rattle this one out of my decidedly swiss-cheesed memory!

Well August Derleth, '67-'68 (I know Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos in '69), Arkham House - The Arkham Collector? Was one of the first stories Rising With Surtsy?

topol_sheap
April 18th, 2004, 03:15 AM
NO I said anthology... but you mentioned the right one - tales of the Chulhu Mythos and Rising with Surtsey was in the 92 reprint. I don't count the Arkham Collector as an anthology (althought it was collected together as one book) as it was a small press magazine type thing.

Over to you Sang.

new RULES to be imposed as of now.

As any of you who have access to the retreat will know, I ran a poll of how we shoudl take the quizzes forward (because of people not coming back to set another question or leaving it too long, and the thread dies).

Well the new rules are you have three days from when the answer is correct to post another question, otherwise the person who asked the question will take the role for a second time.

You get the jist - this will be posted in other quiz threads...

Oh, and for those of you who want access to the non-lumley areas, which include off topic discussion (the retreat), and other items of interest (in the readonly settlement). You can subscribe to the board and you get full posting rights for these areas ;) See board info (http://www.brianlumley.com/interact/mb.html) for more...
